Sin: More Deadly Than the Coronavirus

The lesson appointed for Mass two days ago, March 1, 2020, the Second Sunday of Lent, was taken from the First Epistle of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians:

Brethren: Even as you have learned from us how you ought to walk to please God - as indeed you are walking we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus to make even greater progress. For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that you abstain from immorality; that every one of you learn how to possess his vessel in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and overreach his brother in the matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before and have testified. For God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness, in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Thessalonians 4: 1-7.)

Dom Prosper Gueranger also explained the lesson from Saint Paul’s Epistle to the Thessalonians by teaching us that the Apostle to the Gentile was showing us the “manner of life” that “should be followed by Christians,” a manner of life that is far, far different than the pagan spirit that permeates the counterfeit church of conciliarism’s “reconciliation” the world and its errors.

Here the apostle shows what manner of life should be followed by Christians; and the Church, by repeating his words, exhorts the faithful to profit of the present season of grace, and regain the beauty of the image of God, which the grace of Baptism first gave them. A Christian is a ‘vessel of honour,’ formed and enriched by the hand of God; let him, therefore, shun whatsoever would degrade his noble origin, and turn him into a vessel of dishonor, fit only to be broken and cast with the unclean into the sink of hell. The Christian religion has so far ennobled man, that even his very body may share in the soul’s sanctity; on the other hand it teaches us that this sanctity of the soul is impaired, yea, altogether effaced, by the loss of the body’s purity. The whole man, therefore, both body and soul, is to be reformed by the practices of this holy season. Let us purify the soul by the confession of our sins by compunction of heart, by the love of God; and let us give back its dignity to the body, by making it bear the yoke of penance, that that so it may b be, henceforth, subservient and docile to the soul, on the day, of the general resurrection, may partake in her eternal bliss. To paraphrase the late Father John Anthony Hardon, S.J.: Let me repeat myself in order to be very clear.

Most of the people alive today do not know God.

What do I mean?

I shan’t tarry in an explanation.

We live during a very unique and perhaps almost entirely unparalleled time in human history in which there are large segments of the world’s population who live only for their pleasures of their senses and who view themselves, others and the events of the world solely through natural eyes of the body. Unlike even the pagans and barbarians of yore who were bound together in some kind of cult of belief, however inchoate, and a form of public pietas, many hundreds of millions of people around the world give no thought to anything other than the events of the moment.

This is true even here in the United States of America as more and more of the products of America’s concentration camps and publicly-financed institutions of indoctrination (public schools) are godless self-seekers who know nothing about the fact that they have immortal souls created in the image and likeness of God and that have been redeemed by the Most Precious Blood of His Co-Equal, Co-Equal Divine Son, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The thought of sudden death never occurs to them, which is why so many of them are compelled to go to bars and other “establishments” where diabolical noise that is marketed as “music” is played as but a tragic foretaste of the screeching, screaming, pounding and endless pains that will be their lot for all eternity in the fiery dungeon of hell if they do not convert to the true Faith and reform their lives as they seek to make reparation for their sins.

Additionally, most Protestants, Orthodox and a significant number of Catholics attached to the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism in the mistaken belief that they are in the Catholic Church and not her counterfeit ape do not know Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the immutable truths truly He has entrusted exclusively to our mater and magister, Holy Mother Church, for their infallible explication and eternal safekeeping. Aping either Protestant “pastors” and alleged “Scriptural scholars” or the conciliar “pontiffs,” most nominal Protestants and Catholics project their own self-serving beliefs about what God should be and teach rather than submit themselves to the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law without exception and without complaint.

Moreover, there is a very small but nevertheless disproportionately influential number of people in the United States of America and elsewhere in the world who rejected the Sacred Divinity of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whose souls are captive to the adversary by means of Original Sin. Blinded by this captivity to the forces of darkness, Talmudists, Kabbalists, Zionists, Masons (and naturalists of all descriptions, permutations and variations), Mohammedans, Buddhists, Hindus, Shintoists, Theosophists, tree worshippers, ancestor worshippers, Animists and their “Great Thumb,” Bahaists, Zoroastrianists, occultists, devil worshippers and others add to social discord, especially in times of natural disasters, catastrophes, wars and outbreaks of contagion and pestilence. Almost the entirety of American social life is supposed to bow the head and bend the knee by keeping silent about the Holy Name of Jesus publicly so that those Who deny, if not mock and despise, His Sacred Divinity will not “feel” “offended” or “bullied.”

Such a recipe of error, confusion, infidelity, apostasy, heresy and naturalism produces a situation where people sin wantonly as it is protected under the cover of the civil law as a “human right” and celebrated wildly all throughout the nooks and crannies of what is said to be “popular culture.” Those who have no understanding of the purpose of their very existence nor of any concept of redemptive suffering are easy pickings for statists who seek to exploit various crises to quell public fears but wind up increasing them by the draconian measures that are floated as a response to this or that problem.

It should come as no surprise to us during the current outbreak of what is called the coronavirus (or COVID-19 by the scientific community) that functionaries of the civil state are making more of this situation than the facts warrant, thus throwing panicked citizens into foraging through supermarkets and scouring online suppliers for hand sanitizers, bottled water, toilet tissues, vinyl gloves, surgical face masks, crackers, snacks, prepared foods, canned and powered soups and other staples to survive if they should contract the coronavirus or be quarantined because they had an exposure to someone who knew someone who might have heard of someone who has the virus. This is crazy.

While it is prudent to take a few measures to prepare for whatever it is our minders in the civil state have in mind for us, it is not to take away anything from the serious nature of the coronavirus nor to minimize the terrible suffering that it has caused those who have had or continue have serious cases of the disease, and it is not to in any way dismiss or neglect the grief of families whose relatives have died from the disease, to point out that the coronavirus, though widespread, is not as deadly as seasonal influenza outbreaks or such things as the “bird flu” and “swine flu.”

Coronavirus is a virus, and a virus is going to spread no matter what public health officials try to do to limit it. The virus just has to run its course. Those who are said to vulnerable,  including the elderly and those with underlying health problems, to the most serious consequences of the disease will have to pray for the spiritual and bodily strength to fight it off as they accept it as occurring within the ineffable Providence of God for His own greater honor and glory and for their own sanctification as they seek to give unto Him whatever merit they might earn from bearing with the disease valorously in reparation for their own sins, the sins of the whole world and for the conversion of all men to the Catholic Faith as the consecrated slaves of His Divine Son through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. The coronavirus outbreak is thus a good reminder for one and all to get to Confession to a true priest regularly—if at all possible in this time of apostasy and betrayal—and, in this situation, to make sure that one wears a truly blessed Miraculous Medal of Grace and to prepare for death, which can occur at any time in any of our lives:

[36] But of that day and hour no one knoweth, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone. [37] And as in the days of Noe, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [38] For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, even till that day in which Noe entered into the ark, [39] And they knew not till the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of man be. [40] Then two shall be in the field: one shall be taken, and one shall be left.

[41] Two women shall be grinding at the mill: one shall be taken, and one shall be left. [42] Watch ye therefore, because ye know not what hour your Lord will come. ... [43] But know this ye, that if the goodman of the house knew at what hour the thief would come, he would certainly watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open. (Matthew 24: 36-43.)

In other words, we must be prepared at all times to suffer and die, being ever ready to accept with resignation the sort of death and all of the pains accompanying that God has fashioned for us to undergo before we meet Him face to face at the terrible  moment of the Particular Judgment. We do not know the day or the hour when Our Lord will come for us. The coronavirus outbreak is simply an occasion to remind believing Catholics that death can occur at any time, and that Moral Sin is the worst affliction from which anyone can suffer, not coronavirus or any other physical affliction. Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ really meant it when He said:

[28] And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10: 28.)

To give readers some sense of perspective about this, therefore, we must bear in mind that four hundred people in the United States of America have confirmed cases of the coronavirus. That number represents 0.1223% of this country’s population of an estimated 327,000,000. Twenty-one people have died from the disease, and eighteen of those were in an intensive care unit of a nursing home in Bellingham, Washington! Even including those eighteen people whose deaths were caused by catching the coronavirus, the number of fatalities in the United States of America represents 0.6% of the current estimate population.

One commentator put the matter as follows in the New York Post a few days ago:

Nations are closing borders, stocks are plummeting and a New York Times headline reads: “The Coronavirus Has Put the World’s Economy in Survival Mode.” Both political parties have realized the crisis could severely impact the November elections — House, Senate, presidency. And sacré bleu, they’ve even shuttered the Louvre!

Some of these reactions are understand­able, much of it pure hysteria. Meanwhile, the spread of the virus continues to slow.

More than 18,000 Americans have died from this season’s generic flu so far, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2018, the CDC estimated, there were 80,000 flu deaths. That’s against 19 coronavirus deaths so far, from about 470 cases.

Worldwide, there have been about 3,400 coronavirus deaths, out of about 100,000 identified cases. Flu, by comparison, grimly reaps about 291,000 to 646,000 annually.

China is the origin of the virus and still accounts for over 80 percent of cases and deaths. But its cases peaked and began ­declining more than a month ago, according to data presented by the Canadian epidemiologist who spearheaded the World Health Organization’s coronavirus mission to China. Fewer than 200 new cases are reported daily, down from a peak of 4,000.

Subsequent countries will follow this same pattern, in what’s called Farr’s Law. First formulated in 1840 and ignored in ­every epidemic hysteria since, the law states that epidemics tend to rise and fall in a roughly symmetrical pattern or bell-shaped curve. AIDS, SARS, Ebola — they all followed that pattern. So does seasonal flu each year.

Clearly, flu is vastly more contagious than the new coronavirus, as the WHO has noted. Consider that the first known coronavirus cases date back to early December, and since then, the virus has ­afflicted fewer people in total than flu does in a few days. Oh, and why are there no flu quarantines? Because it’s so contagious, it would be impossible.

As for death rates, as I first noted in these pages on Jan. 24, you can’t employ simple math — as everyone is doing — and look at deaths versus cases because those are ­reported cases. With both flu and assuredly with coronavirus, the great majority of those infected have symptoms so mild — if any — that they don’t seek medical attention and don’t get counted in the caseload.

Furthermore, those calculating rates ­ignore the importance of good health care. Given that the vast majority of cases have occurred in a country with poor health care, that’s going to dramatically exaggerate the death rate.

The rate also varies tremendously according to age, with a Chinese government analysis showing 0.2 percent deaths below age 40 but 14.8 percent above 80. A study published last month in the Journal of the American Medical Association found zero deaths worldwide among children 9 and under. Zero.

Like the flu, the coronavirus is afflicting high-risk groups: the elderly, those with ­underlying health conditions like diabetes or heart disease and those with compromised immune systems. Are there exceptions? Sure. But that’s the case with almost every complex biological phenomenon of the kind.

More good news. This month, the Northern Hemisphere, which includes the countries with the most cases, starts heating up. Almost all respiratory viruses hate warm and moist weather. That’s why flu dies out in America every year by May at the latest and probably why Latin America has reported only 25 coronavirus cases. The Philippines, where I live, has about a third of the US population, but it’s so [very] hot and humid here, so far we have had no confirmed cases of internal transmission.

The only questions are what the impact will be in the Southern Hemisphere, where far fewer people live, and whether it will ­return to the north in the fall.

Still, if you want to try to reduce your ­low risk even further, then use what works against flu and colds. Both the surgeon general and head of the CDC have advised we nix the masks; they don’t work. Instead, wash your hands with hot water and soap or an alcohol solution for at least 10 to 20 seconds. That way you won’t spread any germs when you use the TV remote to flip off the latest hysterical news report. (Coronavirus will hit its peak and then start falling sooner than you think.)

Buttressing this observation is a plea by a physician interviewed on the Columbia Broadcasting System's news division for the panic over the coronavirus to stop:

Dr. Drew talks with CBS Local's DJ Sixsmith about coronavirus: “The panic must stop. And the press, they really somehow need to be held accountable because they are hurting people.”

CBS NEWS: “So you’ve seen pandemics over the decades, how does this one compare with everything?”

DR. DREW: “A bad flu season is 80,000 dead, we’ve got about 18,000 dead from influenza this year, we have a hundred from corona. Which should you be worried about influenza or Corona? A hundred versus 18,000? It’s not a trick question. And look, everything that’s going on with the New York cleaning the subways and everyone using Clorox wipes and get your flu shot, which should be the other message, that’s good. That’s a good thing, so I have no problem with the behaviors. What I have a problem with is the panic and the fact that businesses are getting destroyed that people’s lives are being upended, not by the virus, but by the panic. The panic must stop. And the press, they really somehow need to be held accountable because they are hurting people.”

CBS NEWS: “So, where do you think the panic started? Besides the press, like what was the impetus in terms of mass hysteria?”

DR. DREW: “I saw it, there’s a footage of me on a show called The Daily Blast Live a month ago, going ‘shouldn’t we be scared about this?’ and me going ‘no, there’s gonna be as potential for panic here, shut up everybody, stop talking about it, I could see the panic brewing, and I could just see it the way the innuendo and the every opportunity for drama by the press was twisted in that direction. Let me give you an example: so the World Health Organization is out now saying the fatality rate from the virus is 3.4%, right? Every publication from the WHO says 3.4% and we expect it to fall dramatically once we understand the full extent of the illness. No one ever reports the actual statement. We go 3.4% that’s 10 times more than the, whatever five times more than the flu virus and yeah it’s gonna be a little more [than the] flu probably. Still not a bad flu season.”

CBS NEWS: “Right, we’re gonna hear about more cases, more people died.”

DR. DREW: “There are probably several people in this building that probably have it and don’t know it.”

CBS NEWS: “Right, well it was also just the process of letting the public know, the stock market, the number of tests that were available, there was so much happening, I think people were freaking out as a result of that.”

DR. DREW: “I think there was it was a concerted effort by the press to capture your eyes and in doing so they did it by inducing panic. There’s, listen, the CDC and the WHO, they know what they are doing, they contain pandemics, that’s how they know how to do it, they’re doing an amazing job.”

CBS NEWS: “What about the global implications of this because we were talking off-camera about Italy, there’s China as well, there’s some little outbreaks where you should avoid.

DR. DREW: “There are, I would look out where there flus out breaking bad to. I ended up getting the bird flu, I got H1N1 and it was horrible. It was no fun. … There’s certain things having been a physician for almost forty years, there are certain things I just know … and there’s certain things I just know by virtue of all the experience I’ve had and so when I saw this one coming, the corona, I thought I know how this is gonna go, I see kind of what it is and then I saw the excessive reaction the press, so I have to respond and then people, the weird part on social media towards me as people are angry with me, angry with me for trying to get them to see reality and calm down.” ( Press Must Stop Coronavirus Panic.)

I am not a medical doctor. As a Catholic, however, I have to say that fear is the tool of the adversary to whip the masses up into a frenzy, and the only thing we should really fear is to displease God in any way, especially by means of Mortal Sin.

Once again, the relatively low levels of infection as percentages of national populations is not at all to assert that the coronavirus does not make even some healthy people with no underlying health problems very sick to point of seeking hospitalization. Even low-grade cases of influenza can be very debilitating without some of the more vexatious symptoms accompanying more serious cases.

However, the fear mongering about the virus is demonstrating yet again the results of the loss of faith caused by Martin Luther’s revolution against the Divine Plan that God instituted to effect man’s return to Him through the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order, and then the subsequent rise and institutionalization of the never-ending cascade of naturalism wrought by the combined, interrelated and symbiotic forces of Judeo-Masonry. Men who lack the true Faith will be prone to fear and panic in times of crises and uncertainty.

What we are witnessing at present, therefore, is a frenzy of fear that is one of the inevitable consequences of a world gone mad from the falsehoods of Pelagian self-redemption and the naturalistic ideologies and formula that are said to provide men with a means to “solve” problems or to cope with crises that have Original Sin as their remote cause and our Actual Sins as proximate causes. Absent the teaching authority and the sanctifying offices of the true Church, therefore, men will turn to the “infallible” civil state to “protect” them from chastisements sent to us by God to correct us and to call us back unto Him through that same true Church, the Catholic Church.

Indeed, the current outbreak of the coronavirus began in the city of Wuhan, Red China, something that the murderous Chicom dictators wanted to “contain” as they knowingly exposed their own people to the disease and then let them travel freely throughout the world until some countries, starting with the United States of America, began to put travel restrictions in place:

Given the absolute power of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Wuhan authorities have controlled the dissemination of information for the fear of possible impacts on social order and political stability. It was hardly a surprise, therefore, that the CPC has been willing to mortgage the health of its citizens during this coronavirus debacle for the preservation of the system. 

Indeed, while China has responded faster to the coronavirus epidemic than its SARS outbreak in 2002–03, the CPC has overlooked the inherent failure in its system as the authorities have continued to silence and punish those who deviate from official orthodoxy and reality. Even with the lessons of the SARS disaster, demonstrating the need for greater openness and responsibility, China has committed the same mistakes while expecting a different outcome.

The Heavenly Messenger

The first mistake was shooting the messenger. Dr. Li Wenliang—a young ophthalmologist at the Central Hospital of Wuhan—had first shared his concerns on December 31, 2019, with a group of colleagues on WeChat. At the time, the coronavirus had not yet been identified. Li then warned his co-workers of the SARS-like symptoms that his patients were exhibiting, and encouraged them to adopt stricter measures to prevent contaminations in their hospitals. 

This had all privately been shared to alert his colleagues. However, once screenshots began to circulate, they came to the attention of his superiors at the hospital. Li’s reward for this simple act of professional vigilance was an order from the hospital authorities to write a letter of self-criticism. The local police also paid him a visit in the middle of the night, where they accused him of being one of eight people who had been spreading “false information” and who had “gravely disturbed social order.”

Finally, Li was forced to respond affirmatively to the questions: “Can you stop your illegal behavior?” and “Do you understand you’ll be punished if you don’t stop such behavior?” His answers were signed and sealed by affixing his red thumbprint to the police report. With this restraining order, the virus was then allowed to continue spreading unabated for several more weeks. This pointed to the second mistake.

The Mandate of the Party

Setting the stage for the perfect storm, the city of Wuhan had been preparing its annual mass banquet. To celebrate the twentieth anniversary, local organizers had attempted “to break a world record for the largest number of dishes served.” The significance of this event cannot be overstated. For at least three weeks prior to the banquet on January 18, 2020, Wuhan authorities had been informed of the virus spreading in the city.

The SARS experience and common sense would have dictated taking immediate measures to protect public health. Instead, Wuhan authorities did the unthinkable: issuing orders to suppress the news and covering-up the gravity of the outbreak. Even after the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared a global health emergency on January 30, media outlets such as Xinhua were instructed to give the news of the coronavirus a positive spin and avoid mentioning the WHO declaration. By this time, the pathogen had already spread well beyond China.

One reason for the suppression of the news—as reported by the Financial Times—was that the mayor of Wuhan had declined the advice of health experts out of concern that measures to contain the disease “may hurt the local economy and social stability.” This decision would have two escalatory effects. First, it accelerated the virulence of the virus, given the sheer number of people in close proximity. Second, it facilitated the spread of the virus around the world. The conclusion of the banquet ended with an exodus of some five million people from the city, which helped to transport the virus beyond Hebei province and Chinese national borders.

By January 29, the number of cases of the coronavirus had already risen to 7,700 cases worldwide and 170 deaths in China. The figures were likely very conservative, given the shortage of medical test kits at that time. On the same day, China’s Supreme Court finally recognized that the Wuhan police should have been more “tolerant” of those sounding the alarm than accusing them of rumor-mongering. This was a lame gesture to the clear recognition of the facts on the ground. This points to the third mistake.

With the cover-up having now failed, China is slowly and begrudgingly admitting to the inadequacies of its critical response. The advance team from the WHO has only able to enter China as recently as February 10, and it is still unclear when the full WHO mission will deploy, or the latitude they will have to investigate the origins of this infection. The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC)—one of the world’s most respected organizations and the most experienced first responders—has not even been invited to assist in the investigation.

To this degree of restriction and censorship, not to mention the potential threats to public health beyond the national borders, there has been a massive outcry not only over the silencing of Li Wenliang, but the government’s mishandling of the entire crisis. In this context, one can only tremble at the thought of the estimated one million Chinese Uyghurs in the so-called “vocational training centers” or internment camps in the Xinjiang province. The exiled World Uyghur Congress had sounded the alarm over the risk of spreading the virus inside the camps. According to the Chinese official media, there are only 55 cases reported in Xinjiang.

Even if not actually complicit, the WHO at the very least must share some of the blame for the speed of the response. According to the Washington Post, even as the virus was spreading through Wuhan in January, the WHO’s Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was praising the “transparency” of the Chinese response, and giving the general impression that “China has got this.”

The CPC keeps a vice-like grip on what is seen and heard in the country. In China, controlling the narrative is the sine qua non of Beijing’s success of its leadership. Contagious diseases are, however, indifferent to religious and political ideologies. At a certain critical mass, the message is simply too ubiquitous to ignore or cover-up. To this point, it is reminiscent of the maxim—often been attributed to the nineteenth century German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer—that “All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident.”

At this juncture, the best possible policy prescription can only look to the message of scientific truth and the messenger who ultimately had to pay for this crisis with his life. In an interview with the New York Times before he died, Li offered this advice: “If the officials had disclosed information about the epidemic earlier, I think it would have been a lot better. There should be more openness and transparency.” (Red China coul have avoided world coronavirus .)

Expecting “transparency” in the prison state that is Red China is absurd. Although the information contained in the commentary quoted just above is useful, the author himself does not seem to understand that Communism is evil in se, a truth those who pander to the Chicoms (the United Nations, the World Health Organization, many members of the Congress of the United States of America, multinational corporate titans, “Hollywood,” many American sports leagues, journalists, professors, scientists, physicians, presbyters, “bishops,” “cardinals,” especially Pietro Parolin, and the currently reigning universal public face of apostasy holed up in bubble wrap in the Casa Santa Marta) consider as preposterous. It is thus very ironic that the atheist Chicoms have let loose a chastisement upon their own people, about whose true welfare they care nothing, that they permitted to spread and bring the very sort of economic consequences that they sought to avoid by suppressing news of the virus that was probably released in a Wuhan laboratory despite all the efforts on the part of the so-called “scientific community” to deny that this was the case by terming this possibility as “fringe conspiracy.” No speculation about what goes on within Red China is “fringe.”

Although the response of the government of the United States of America is a subject that will be discussed in greater deal in “Naturally Absurd, part two,” after Easter next month, suffice it to say for the moment that the “end game” for the Big Pharmaceutical industry and for the career social engineers ensconced in the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the United States Food and Drug Administration and the so-called Centers for Disease Control is the coronavirus vaccine. Government officials here and around the world are not interested in preventing a disease that is incapable of being controlled; they are interested in controlling the masses and getting them to “obey” in the interests of “public health and safety.”

It is too early speculate if this vaccine, which is being rushed into testing before it goes into mass production and dissemination, will be mandatory, but it is not for nothing that onetime White House Chief of Staff for Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro before he “graduated” into becoming the bungling mayor of the crime ridden City of Chicago, Illinois, Rahm Emanuel, said the following during an outbreak of the swine flu in 2009:

"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." (Rahm Emanuel,  In Crisis, Opportunity for Barack Obama - WSJ.com)

This is what I wrote in response to Emanuel’s desire to exploit crises during the time of the swine flu: 

Statists such as Rahm Emanuel, who, as White House Chief of Staff, is one of the chief puppeteers of Barack Hussein Obama, a man who is lost without his ubiquitous weapon of mass disinformation, the TelePrompTer, need crises in order to expand the size and the power and the scope of government at all levels as the means to aggrandize themselves and to subject citizens to an exacting, involuntary submission to their nefarious schemes to control their minds and practically all aspects of their daily lies (see Ashamed of the NAME Above All Names, All Hail! Caesar Obamus, Reichstag II, Intent on Controlling Mind and Body, Stalag America, Death To Us All, You Could Be Swingin' On A Star, Fascism Here, Fascism Now, Figures of Antichrist Applauding Each Other, and Only When They Win). This, as I have tried to demonstrate over and over again to the point of physical exhaustion, is the natural consequence of a political system founded on false, naturalistic, anti-Incarnational, religiously indifferent and semi-Pelagian principles. Statism must emerge when men and their nations do not live under the sweet yoke of the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised by the one and only true Church, the Catholic Church.

Statists do not only exploit crises of one sort or another. They also manufacture crises of one sort or another. Indeed, I remember writing an article around 1997 or 1998 for the printed journal Christ or Chaos that was entitled "Another Manufactured Crisis," dealing with then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's plans to solve the "education" crisis in the United States of America. Then President George Walker Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney exploited the tragic events of September 11, 2001, to launch a needless, unjust and immoral invasion of a sovereign nation, Iraq, that posed no real, immediate, legitimate threat to the security of the United States of America, resulting in the loss of over four thousand American lives and injuries to thousands more of our military personnel who were placed in harm's way for no good reason, the devastation of so many thousands of families of American servicemen and servicewomen whose spouses chose to divorce them while they were overseas, the increasing use of women in combat positions, the destruction of the infrastructure of Iraq and the killing and displacement of countless thousands of innocent Iraqis, and, of course, the expenditure of billions upon billions of American taxpayer dollars to fund the destruction and the corrupt, incompetent "rebuilding" of Iraq.

In like manner, of course, the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was used by the administration of President George Walker Bush as a means of large-scale social engineering as people were rounded up and bused or flown to various parts of the country, held for days on end in such places as the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, and the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas. As a traditional Catholic priest noted to me earlier this year [2009], "Katrina was a dry run for the government to see how much it could get away with insofar as rounding people up and sending them to different parts of the country." Indeed.

That Barack Hussein Obama and his hideous crew of Marxists and Maoists have sought to exploit one crisis after another as they have demonized anyone who dares to criticize them is only a continuation of politics as usual in the United States of America, a country where there has never been any room for the Social Reign of Christ the King and of Mary our Immaculate Queen.

Thus it is that the thoroughly manufactured "swine flu crisis" has been used by the administration of Barack Hussein Obama to whip up Americans who are devoid of any concept of redemptive suffering and who live in mortal fear of physical death rather than in mortal fear of dying in a state of unrepented Mortal Sin in a frenzy so that they will subject their bodies to the poisons contained in the "swine flu" vaccine that actually cause people to get the swine flu and to spread it to others. Although there have been much commentary from various alarmists, many of whose past warnings about allegedly "impending" staged "terrorist" attacks have failed to materialize time and time and time again, about the possibility of large scale quarantines and the disruption of family life for those who refuse to take the poisonous "swine flu" vaccine, the fact that Barack Hussein Obama has issued a declaration of "National Emergency" concerning the swine flu that is actually less widespread that many other forms of influenza is certainly an indication that the statists may very well be gearing up for an effort to mandate us to take the poisonous "swine flu" vaccine or face severe repercussions for failing to do so.

Here is the actual declaration of national emergency as found on the White House website:

Pursuant to section 201 of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1621), I hereby report that I have exercised my authority to declare a national emergency in order to be prepared in the event of a rapid increase in illness across the Nation that may overburden health care resources. This declaration will allow the Secretary of Health and Human Services, if necessary, to temporarily waive certain standard Federal requirements in order to enable U.S. health care facilities to implement emergency operations plans to deal with the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic in the United States. A copy of my proclamation is attached.

Further, I have authorized the Secretary of Health and Human Services to exercise the authority under section 1135 of the Social Security Act to temporarily waive or modify certain requirements of the Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children's Health Insurance programs and of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule as necessary to respond to the pandemic throughout the duration of the public health emergency declared in response to the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. These declarations of "national emergency" are quite pernicious even though the Congress of the United States of America passed the National Emergencies Act in 1976 to provide some "safeguards" on their being made and implemented by presidents without any statutory oversight on the part of Congress. Presidents from Abraham Lincoln through Richard Nixon used these declarations of national emergency to increase the size and the power and the scope of the Federal government on an incremental basis, thus setting the stage for the statism that is before us at the present time. A country founded in a rejection of the abuse of monarchical powers by a king whose country was in the vanguard in the revolution against the Social Reign Christ the King has devolved all to logically and inevitably into a situation wherein various law enforcement agencies within the Federal government act as a virtual government within the government, staffed by employees who view each citizen as a potential traitor and/or as a potential threat to their own unchecked exercise of government power and scrutiny over our own words and actions.

And, of course, there are laws duly passed by the Congress of the United States of America that unjustly increase the power of the Federal government to do immoral things via the legislative process. One of these laws, the Department of Defense Authorization Bill, contains a "hate crimes" provision that will, in effect, criminalize the criticism of perverse sins in violation of the Sixth and Ninth Commandments if it can be proved that said criticism contributed to the commission of a crime of violence upon a person who bases his humans self-identity on his inclination to commit these perverse sins against nature. Alas, that will be the subject of a different commentary at a different time, one that will not the complicit of the naturalists of the false opposite of the "right" in the Republican Party in the passage of this bill by a most comfortable margin in both Houses of the Congress of the United States of America.

Although it would be intellectually irresponsible to contend that presidential declarations of "national emergency" equip American presidents to exercise the wide range of powers that a German chancellor could exercise under terms of the "democratic" Weimar Constitution of 1919, powers that Adolf Hitler invoked with meticulous scrupulosity to justify urging the Reichstag to pass various laws, including the Nuremberg Laws in 1935, to act arbitrarily against certain groups of people, starting with Jews and then extending to the handicapped and the infirmed and the "useless" elderly and anyone else deemed to be "unfit" for the building of the "Third Reich,” it is nevertheless true that all manner of evils have been undertaken as a result of these declarations of national emergency here in the United States of America. President Barack Hussein Obama's penchant for exploiting a "good crisis" and/or for helping to manufacture various crises, including the "swine flu pandemic," is just a continuation of the abuse of executive power in a nation where civil leaders do not have to answer to the authority of the Catholic Church when they threaten the good of souls and all other exhortations have failed to remedy their abuses of civil power. And there is no end in sight, obviously, to these abuses.

The manufactured "swine flu pandemic" (oink, oink) may very well turn out to be an occasion for massive quarantines and/or for the imposition of various penalties (fines, imprisonment, "community service") for failing to take the poisonous "swine flu" vaccine (see H1N1 Swine Flu Facts). What is known for sure at this date is that Big Pharma is profiting handsomely from this manufactured crisis, and it is indeed Big Pharma that is the first beneficiary of Obama's declaration of "national emergency" on Friday, October 23, 2009, as the following commentary makes clear:

To my surprise, on the afternoon of the following day (Saturday), the President of the United States had indeed declared a national emergency due to 1000 reported flu deaths, 100 of them among children. These deaths had occurred over the past eight months.

But 1000 accumulated deaths would be far fewer than the mortality figures the Centers for Disease Control distributes – estimated at 36,000 annual flu deaths. Federal health authorities lump pneumonia deaths among the elderly with flu-related deaths to falsely inflate flu mortality figures. My own guesstimate is that only about 6000 flu-related deaths actually occur each year, but even using this figure for comparison, this year's flu outbreak appears weak. An estimated 20,000 hospitalizations have been reported since this pandemic flu strain began in March of 2009, which amounts to only about 625 hospitalizations per week spread among more than 5 thousand hospitals.

Earlier in the week CBS News reported that, five months after this unique strain of the flu had begun to spread in Mexico in March of 2009, the H1N1 pandemic flu strain only comprised 1–2% of the flu viruses in circulation by July. Yet there were massive preparations being made for a major flu pandemic without sufficient justification. Today the Centers for Disease Control says the H1N1 pandemic flu strain represents 99% of the flu cases that are typed laboratory confirmed. Just exactly which numbers are correct, if any, now come into question.

According to CBS News, only 11 million doses of flu have been administered, with millions more to arrive late, sometime in mid-November. Time Magazine reports about 30 million available doses, so that could mean up to two-thirds of the currently available vaccine is going unused.

A reimbursement crisis, not a health crisis

A follow-up report, published in the Sunday edition of the San Francisco Chronicle, says the emergency declaration issued by The White House has more to do with Medicare and Medicaid regulations dealing with hospitals. With the national emergency declared, hospitals have more flexibility to set up separate or even outdoor treatment areas.

The emergency appears to deal more with hospitals and their ability to get paid by federal health authorities. An article in the New York Times confirms that federal rules do not allow hospitals to establish treatment areas more than 250 yards from emergency rooms. "Tents are 300 yards or more away, typically federal dollars won't go to pay for treatment."

So the emergency appears to be financial – making sure hospitals meet federal requirements so they can get paid by Medicaid or Medicare, rather than any true health crisis.

The San Francisco Chronicle article said "White House officials were quick to note that the emergency declaration does not signify an increase in severity of the national H1N1 outbreak." But the article kept referring to all the deaths, when there appear to be fewer mortal cases of the flu in the past 8 months than prior flu seasons.

Journalists and health officials sound more duplicitous as they attempt to explain the need for the emergency declaration. Here is how the San Francisco Chronicle described it:

"Art Reingold, head of epidemiology at UC Berkeley, said the declaration doesn't mean that the national outbreak is 'any worse than it was yesterday or last week'."

"It's difficult to get the right message across to people," Reingold said. "There's this balance between the flu is important and people should be vaccinated, but you don't want an overreaction."

But once again, according to federal officials, there is little or no vaccine available.

Civil liberties threatened?

An article in the Christian Science Monitor (ASM) was more concerned that such a contrived emergency could be a veiled way to overrun civil liberties. The ASM article quoted Harold Relyea, a specialist in national government with the Congressional Research Service, who said:

"When the President formally declares a national emergency, he may seize property, organize and control the means of production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication, regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel and, in a variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens."

Few news sources were critical of the declared emergency, but expect more reporters to express skepticism over its need and to question its intent.

An article in the New Hampshire Union Leader said: "But the way the U.S. government has been handling the new flu strain, technically named H1N1, has been less than reassuring."

What to do now?

Misdirection, overreaction and lack of preparedness by public health officials is a clear indication to the public that they cannot totally rely upon potentially problematic vaccines or anti-viral drugs to defend themselves against the flu.

An ignored approach to controlling infectious disease is to address the immune status of the population. The public should utilize bona fide immune boosters such as vitamin D and vitamin C, and take nutrients that are documented to reduce the duration and severity of the disease which include vitamin E, the trace mineral selenium, the sulfur compound NAC, and elderberry. Although the twenty-two readers of this site are, most likely, already very skeptical of the disinformation spread by governmental officials and governmental agencies at all levels of government (state, local, national), perhaps it would be useful to provide a simple "reality check" during this time of the manufactured "swine flu" crisis (oink, oink).

1) Our governments are filled with liars. Do not believe a word they tell you. Men and women who believe that the conception of children may be frustrated by various chemical pills and devices and who believe that children already conceived may be killed, whether by chemical or surgical means, in their mothers' wombs are in se unreliable and their words of "assurance" about the "safety" of various medications and vaccines should be dismissed rather readily. Men who do not live for the honor and glory of God as He has revealed Himself to us exclusively through His Catholic Church and who thus live in no fear of the Particular Judgment being rendered on their souls by Christ the King at the moment of their deaths are to be viewed with suspicion and skepticism, not with trust and submission.

2) Do not panic in the face of the spread of various diseases. Please review the points that I made in this regard in Big Pharm Trumps the Holy Cross. Nothing that we can suffer in this passing, mortal vale of tears is the equal of what one of our least Venial Sins caused Our Lord to suffer in His Sacred Humanity during His Passion and Death and that caused His Most Blessed Mother to suffer as those Seven Swords of Sorrow were pierced through and through her Immaculate Heart. Catholics know that they have no reason to complain or grumble about anything that happens to them in this life. They have only to accept the adorable will of God as He manifests it for them in their lives, accepting suffering and pain and rejection as the means by which they can save their souls and give honor and glory to Him as they are conformed more perfectly with the patience

3) Do not believe the hype about the "necessity' of getting the "swine flu" vaccine. Don't take my word for this. I am not a physician. I cannot give medical advice. Consult a good Catholic physician.

The swine flu vaccine will make you sick.

Indeed, a man who works at a Cummins Bridgeway in West Chester, Ohio, where we had our motor home's generator repaired last week before the blown tire ripped it apart just a few hours after leaving that facility told me that he was going to the doctor because he felt ill. I asked him if he had gotten the "swine flu" vaccine. Looking at me rather sheepishly, the man said that he had. "I believed the government," the man said." "That was your first mistake," I told the man. "These moral monsters support and are in complicit in the killing of over four thousand babies by surgical means in this country every single day. Men who kill babies believe in the lie that they can act contrary to the binding precepts of the Fifth Commandment. If one can kill and/or justify the direct, intentional taking of innocent preborn lives, one can lie with complete and utter impunity." He just kind of looked at me with a bemused grin on his face. Don't let that be you! Get information from reliable Catholic physicians who understand the good use that can be made of various pharmaceutical products but who are well-read on the true science, used by many canonized saints of the Catholic church, of homeopathy.

4) Be in a state of Sanctifying Grace at all times. None of us, save for those who are genuine mystics and who have been given by God to know certain secrets, knows the exact time of our deaths. We thought that we were goners last Thursday evening as we exited Interstate 71 in Ohio at 9:30 p.m. Remember that Francisco and Jacinta Marto both died from the effects of the Spanish Influenza. Invoke their intercession. Remember also that the Medal that was struck as a result of the request that Our Lady made of Saint Catherine Laboure was called the "Miraculous Medal" because it saved many people miraculously from the plague in France. And pray as many Rosaries each day as your states-in-life permit.

5) Remember to invoke the patronage of the great Saint of Hopeless Cases who, along with Saint Simon the Apostle, we celebrate liturgically today, the great Saint Jude. Here is one prayer to Saint Jude to recite on a regular basis:

Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (here make your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen. 

Father Benedict Baur, O.S.B., explained how deeply we must always unite ourselves to Our Lord's sufferings:

Christ and His members must be one. They must walk the same road, not only during the liturgical service, when they are lifted up together in the mysteries of the sacrifice, but also in every event of life. Christ welcomed suffering, and accepted it freely; He did not flee the hardships of life. He makes suffering in us, His members, serve the spirit; He uses it as a means of freeing us from the world and all that is temporal and thus raises us from things of his world to the things that are eternal.

Now, during Passiontide, we must begin to live and treasure pain and suffering. In the cross, in suffering, in or crucifixion with Christ, we shall find salvation. For Him and with Him we should bear all the slight injustices committed against us. For Him we should suffer freely and willingly the unpleasant and disagreeable things that occur to us. But our faith is weak. We flee from the cross instead of holding it dear, instead of loving it and welcoming it our as Savior did.  (Father Benedict Baur, O.S.B., The Light of the World, Volume I, B. Flee from all occasions of sin, Venial and Mortal.

Make reparation for your sins.

Be mindful that at the time of the revision article on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2020, the Feast of the Forty Holy Martyrs and the Commemoration of Tuesday in the Second Week of Lent, 1,420 innocent preborn babies have been butchered by surgical means in the United States of America and that another 66,030 have been killed elsewhere in the world (see Abortion Clock). Yet it is that people fear the coronavirus and not God's Divine Justice upon a world whose very political,  legal, social and "cultural" life is premised upon a denial of the Social Reign of Christ the King and the "right" of mere mortals to blaspheme their Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. 

Be mindful also of the fact that countless thousands of others of babies are being killed today and every day by chemical means as innumerable sins against the Sixth and Ninth Commandments are committed by people who have no intention of reforming their lives and that untold thousands of people are being killed each day in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes and sometimes even in the "comfort" of their own homes by means of a protocol of "palliative care" that was designed and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Soros Foundation and has the endorsement of the false "pontiff" himself, Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

All manner of people fear the coronavirus, but not even many Catholics are even remotely aware of the debt that we owe God because of our own sins and those of a world committed to defying Him and His true Church at every turn.

Thus it is we must not participate voluntarily in the rot of a “popular culture” that profits in the marketing of opportunities to sin.

Although most people alive today do not realize it, the fear engendered by a disease that could kill the body but not harm the soul has forced the potentates of governments worldwide to impose various kinds of restrictions that require those would be otherwise going about their business during the penitential season of Lent to refrain from the kinds of celebrations and gatherings that the adversary’s minions arrange to mock Lenten penances.

The entire country of Italy is under a “lockdown” that prevents citizens from traveling anywhere beyond their home region. (See Italy Under Quarantine.)

Various celebrations and hootenannies, including the horrifically egregious “South by Southwest” shindig in a city whose motto is “Keep Austin Weird,” Austin, Texas, have been cancelled. The Carnival in Venice, Italy, on Shrove Tuesday, February 25, 2020, was cancelled.

Spectators have been banned from some sporting events.

Millions of people are avoiding malls and restaurants and the ear-splitting noise that is played in such places.

In other words, Our Lord Himself has seen fit to use the fear of coronavirus to keep people from offending Him by going to the sorts of events and gatherings that should never be held during the holy, penitential season of Lent.

Our Lord is also using the fear mongering about the coronavirus that is seizing those who do know Him as He has revealed Himself to us through His true Church and thus cannot truly love Him and serve Him by teaching one and all the value of redemptive suffering and to trust in His Divine Providence with complete confidence in the simple fact that He permits us to suffer nothing, absolutely nothing, that is beyond our capacity to bear by means of the ineffable and all-sufficient graces He has won for us by the shedding of every single drop of His Most Precious Blood on the wood of the Holy Cross and that flow into our hearts and souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Grace.

The most positive result of the panic over the coronavirus, though, is that it has kept untold scores of thousands of people from offending God by attending the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic Novus Ordo liturgical abomination and from exchanging the completely unnecessary “sign of peace” that turns what should be a period of preparation for the reception of what is thought to be Holy Communion into a free-for-all jamboree that makes even more of a mockery of what purports to be Holy Mass but is nothing other than an exercise in sacrilegious self-adulation.  

Additionally, the false conciliar sect’s big cheese himself, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who observes his seventh anniversary as the sixth in the current line of antipopes on Thursday, March 13, 2020, says that he feels “caged” by being unable to greet people personally and staging his Ding Dong School of Apostasy via live streaming. While not wishing the coronavirus on anyone, not even on the Argentine Apostate himself, it is nonetheless a consolation to know that Our Lord is keeping this blasphemer caged up for a time.

Examples of Various Saints in Times of Contagion

Lost in all the hysteria about the coronavirus is the fact that Holy Mother Church has set before us many valorous examples of saints who were not concerned about their own bodily health or physical safety when serving the needs of those stricken by the plague.

Rather seek to protect himself from the plague afflicting Rome at the end of the Sixth Century, Pope Saint Gregory the Great took to the streets of the Eternity City with a statue of Our Lady to beg for God’s mercy upon the pope’s afflicted flock:

Near the end of the 6th century, a severe plague ravaged the city of Rome, even claiming the life of Pope Pelagius II. It was a difficult time for the people of the city, and when Pope Gregory I was elected to lead the Church, he immediately set out to call upon the mercy of God.

And because the mortality ceased not, he ordained a procession, in the which he did do bear an image of our Lady, which, as is said, St. Luke the Evangelist made, which was a good painter, he had carved it and painted after the likeness of the glorious Virgin Mary. 

And anon the mortality ceased, and the air became pure and clear, and about the image was heard a voice of angels that sung this anthem: Regina cæli lætare, etc., and St. Gregory put thereto: Ora pro nobis, deum rogamus, alleluia. At the same time St. Gregory saw an angel upon a castle which made clean a sword all bloody, and put it into the sheath, and thereby St. Gregory understood that the pestilence of this mortality was passed, and after that it was called the Castle Angel. So much for the use of robots and bubble-wrapped medical “professionals” to “interact” with coronavirus victims. Compare the Catholic courage of a true Successor of Saint Peter, who is the spiritual governor of the whole world and can exercise temporal powers when the good of souls demands his doing so, with the feckless cowardice of those in public life today and the meek. Obsequious submission of Bergoglio himself to the dictates of the anti-Incarnational civil state.

Compare the fear extant in the world today, obsessed with hand sanitizers, with the courage of Saint Aloysius, who died from the plague as was serving the plague-stricken a thousand years after Pope Saint Gregory the Great had processed throughout Rome with an image of Our Lady.

Saint Aloysius spent much time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, understanding that Eucharistic piety was a true foretaste of eternal glories. His time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament prepared him to see in others the very image and likeness of the One he loved with such innocence and purity. It was this pure love of Our Lord that moved him to reject the courtly privileges of the Gonzaga family and to join the Society of Jesus when he was seventeen years of age. He excelled in his theological studies, excelling even more in his service to the poor and the the forgotten, especially the little waifs of the Trastevere district in Rome to whom he taught and explained the basics of the catechism. It was his desire to serve the Christ in the poor and the sick and the suffering that brought him to the bedside of a patient who was dying from the plague, thereby exposing himself to the disease that killed him in short order.

Saint Aloysius did not fear exposing his mortal body to the dangers of a man dying from the plague. He understood that suffering and physical death, both of which are punishments for Original Sin, are not the most dangerous things for a human being. Exposure to the near occasions of sin was what could result in the eternal death of the soul. Far better to be exposed to the diseases of mortal flesh than to contaminate both body and soul by a lukewarmness of spirit and/or by the casual embrace of sin and sinful influences in the course of one's daily life. Saint Aloysius teaches us to recognize that our souls must be kept free from the contagion of sin and error lest we die of the spiritual plagues of pride, lust, envy, gluttony, anger, sloth and greed and their permutations. His confessor, Saint Robert Bellarmine, believed that it was most certainly the case that Saint Aloysius had never committed a Mortal Sin in his entire life. It is possible for one to cooperate with the graces won for the many on the wood of the Holy Cross by the shedding of every single drop of the Divine Redeemer's Most Precious Blood to scale the heights of personal sanctity so that he can gain he highest place in Heaven next to that of the Blessed Mother herself.

Saint Aloysius understood that sin, not any kind of human contagion, was the most deadly pestilence to afflict men, and that God uses pestilence to afflict men to abandon themselves unto Him.

This is what prompted the likes of Saint John of God, who himself had died from plague while to ministering to those  who suffered from it, and Saint Roch of Montpelier to fear not the dangers into which they inserted themselves with such tremendously Faith in the Providence of God.

Consider Dom Prosper Gueranger’s own reflection about the valiant life of Saint Roch, whose feast, although not on the universal calendar of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, can be commemorated on August 16, the Feast of Saint Joachim:

Three years of famine, three months of defeats, three days of pestilence: the choice given to the guilty David between these three measures of expiation shows them to be equivalent before the justice of God. The terrible scourge, which makes more havoc in three days than would famine or a disastrous war in months and years, showed in the fourteenth century that it kept its sad pre-eminence; the Black Death covered the world with a mantle of mourning, and robbed it of a third of its inhabitants. Doubtless the world had never so well merited the terrible warning: the graces of sanctity poured in profusion on the preceding century had but checked for a while the defection of the nations; every embankment being now broken down, entrance was given to the irresistible tide of schism, reform, and revolution by which the world must die. Nevertheless God has mercy so long as life lasts; and while striking sinful mankind, He gave them at the same time the saint predestined to appease His vengeance.

At his birth he appeared marked with the cross. When a young man he distributed his goods to the poor and, leaving his family and country, became a pilgrim for Christ’s sake. Going to Italy to visit the sanctuaries, he there found the cities devastated by a terrible plague. Roch took up his abode among the dead and dying, burying the former, and healing the latter with the sign of the cross. Himself stricken with the evil, he hid himself so as to suffer alone; and a dog brought him food. When cured by God, he returned to Montpelier, his native town, it was only to be there seized as a spy and thrown into prison, where he died after five years. Such are Thy dealings with Thy elect, O Wisdom of God! But no sooner was dead than prodigies burst forth, making known his origin and history, revealing the power he still enjoyed of delivering from pestilence those who had recourse to him.

The reputation of his influence, increased by fresh benefits at each visitation of the plague, caused his cultus to become popular; hence, although the feast of St. Roch is not universal, this short notice was due to him. I will be completed by the following legend and prayer borrowed from the proper office for certain places in the supplement of the Roman Breviary:

Roch was born at Montpelier. He showed his great love for his neighbour when a cruel pestilence ravaged the length and the breadth of Italy; leaving his native country he undertook a journey through Italy, and passing through the towns and villages, devoted himself to the service of the sick, not hesitating to lay down his life for his brethren. Miraculous cures bore witness how pleasing to God was the zeal of the holy man. For by the sign of the Cross he saved many who were in danger of death through the plague, and restored them to perfect health. He returned to his own native country, and, rich in virtues and merits, died a most holy death. He was honoured by the veneration of the faithful immediately after his death. It is said their devotion was greatly increased at the Council of Constance, when n order to avert the pestilence that threatened them, the image of St. Roch was, with the approbation of the bishops, carried solemnly through that town followed by the whole people. Thus devotion to him has spread in a wonderful way through the whole world, and he has been piously declared the universal protector against contagious diseases. Having carefully considered all this, Pope Urban VIII allowed his feast to be celebrated as an ecclesiastical office in those places where there are churches dedicated to God under the invocation of St. Roch.

Prayer

We beseech thee, O lord, protect Thy people in Thy unceasing goodness; and through the merits of blessed Roch, preserve them from every contagion of soul and body. (Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., The Liturgical Year, Volume 13, Time after Penteocost, Book IV, pp. 405-407.) 

It is interesting to note that Dom Prosper Gueranger, O.S.B., explained that the Black Death had been sent as a punishment for the tide of schism, reform, and revolution that had enveloped Catholic Europe in the Fourteenth Century after the glories of the Fourteenth Century. Only the willfully blind or those who are intellectually dishonest can refuse to see we are living in the midst of the same three-fold pestilences that afflict the world and describe the very agenda of the false conciliar sect, that is, the counterfeit church of conciliarism. All the more reason to be personally devoted to Saint Roch as the punishments coming our way must be terrible indeed.

The coronavirus is just a foretaste of far worse chastisements to come. After all, how much longer do we think that men can continue to sin unrepentantly

Saint Roch simply used the Sign of the Cross to cure those sickened with the plague, and in our latter days Our Lady has given us her own Miraculous Medal of Grace:

The design of the "Miraculous Medal" was shown by Our Lady during her apparition to a young French nun Sr Catherine Labore in the Rue du Bac, Paris in 1830. Mary showed Catherine this design of this new medal she wanted people to have and then she asked her to get them manufactured. Sr Catherine with the help of her Spiritual director got the medal produced and it was originally called the "Medal of the Immaculate Conception". Since there was a plague in France at the time and there [were] many cures through the medal the people of France just called it the "Miraculous Medal". (Story of the Miraculous Medal.)

Wear a blessed Miraculous Medal and keep closer to Our Lady through her Most Holy Rosary.

Do not leave in fear of bodily contagion.

Fear only the contagion of the soul that can send us body and soul into hell on the Last Day at the General Resurrection of the living and the dead.

Continue to bear the cross in Lent, and do not permit yourself to be agitated by histrionics in a world where the only thought of sin is to commit it freely and without remorse.

Our Lord is giving us all a chance to convert.

May we pray to Our Lady that we will use this chance well before worse chastisements overtake us.
