"Legal" Baby-Killing Can Never Be Safe or Rare

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Various anniversaries have been noted by the secular world in recent days. The one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of President Abraham Lincoln, fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the thirtieth anniversary of the inauguration of President Ronald Wilson Reagan occurred two days ago, that is, on Thursday, January 20, 2011. The one hundredth anniversary of Reagan's birth will be observed with great fanfare on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Pardon me while I yawn.

Why do I respond with such indifference to these anniversaries?

Abraham Lincoln was, as noted in Not A Mention of Christ the King, a man who kept the union together by armed force, needlessly shedding much blood as brother was forced to fight brother in an unnecessary war that Lincoln used as the pretext for expanding the size, the scope and the power of the Federal government of the United States of America. He repressed legitimate civil liberties and issued orders for civilians who were his critics to be incarcerated without trial and/or tried by military tribunals even though civilian courts were open and functioning. I am not going to celebrate the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of Lincoln's inauguration.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy? No, no celebration here. Our first and only Catholic to serve as this nation's president helped to popularize the very falsehood of "separation of Church and State" that became a cornerstone of the "Second" Vatican Council's Dignitatis Humanae, December 7, 1965, and of the "magisterium" of the conciliar "pontiffs," including Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI. (See Cut From the Same Cloth, which includes Address of Senator John F. Kennedy to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on September 12, 1960, in Houston, Texas.)

Ronald Wilson Reagan? No, no cause to celebrate this naturalist. Sure, he had a bright, sunny disposition. He was affable, took criticism well, used a quick wit to disarm critics, and was inflexible in his desire to defend the United States of America against the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and to thwart Communist aggression in El Salvador and to put pressure on the Sandinista thugs by supporting the Contras, although he did so by overlooking the Contras' tendency to traffic in illegal drugs to raise money, which made possible the purchase of arms and to give money to Iran in exchange for the release by American hostages being held in Lebanon by the Hezbollah.

Yes, President Reagan mentioned abortion in every State of the Union address. He addressed the annual rally prior to the March for Life on the Ellipse in Washington, District of Columbia, by means of a telephone hookup without, it should be mentioned, ever once walking down from the adjacent South Lawn of the White House to do so personally. He also nominated Sandra Day O'Connor to succeed retiring Associate Justice Potter Stewart on the Supreme Court of the United States of America despite the fact Howard Phillips, the founder of the Conservative Caucus Foundation, and Judie Brown, the founder of the American Life League had testified before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary in 1981 that Mrs. O'Connor, then a judge on the Arizona Court of Appeals, had a consistently pro-abortion voting record when she was the majority leader of the Arizona State Senate from 1973 to 1975.

A great deal of the "conservative" admiration for Reagan, whose pro-abortion wife, Nancy Reagan, frequently planned his schedule according to the recommendations of an astrologer, revolves around his belief in the falsehood of American "exceptionalism," exemplified by his repeated invocation of the Puritan bromide that this country was the "shining city set on a hill" and the "last, best hope for mankind. This was and remains a blasphemous assertion as the one and only shining city set on hill is the Catholic Church, founded by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope, which is indeed the last, best hope for mankind.

No, I will let the naturalists celebrate these anniversaries. I, for one, will focus on the anniversary that we commemorate today with sadness, that of the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States of America in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton thirty-eight years ago today that legalized abortion up to and including the day of birth in this country, only permitting the states to regulate, if their state legislatures chose to do so, the conditions under which babies could be killer in the latter stages of pregnancy.

There is no need to repeat here what I have written before in other articles, including in Thirty-Seven Years of Indifference, which was published a year ago today. The forces responsible for the "legal" baby-killing by chemical and surgical means under cover of the civil law did not develop overnight. They have been centuries in the making, starting with the recrudescence of  moral relativism in the early phases of the Renaissance in the Fifteenth Century that led all too logically to the triumph of the theological relativism of the Protestant Revolution that began with the lecherous drunkard named Father Martin Luther, O.S.A. in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517.

This particular article, published on the thirty-eighth anniversary of the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States of America in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, focuses on the breaking story about a baby-killer, Dr. Kermit Gosnell, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who has been charged with eight counts of murder after having presided over the death of one mother, who had sought to make use of his bloody hands to butcher her own baby, and of seven babies, who had survived his effort to kill them in the womb but who he saw fit to dispatch with scissors nevertheless (see Philadelphia Abortion Butcher Charged With 8 Counts of Murder).

If we lived in a just world, one that was governed by a due submission to the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised by the Catholic Church, Gosnell would be tried along with the politicians who enabled him, at least by means of their failure to act upon complaints, in the past few decades, stating with the pro-abortion Tom Ridge, a Catholic who was Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, from January 17, 1995, to October 5, 2001 (at which point he was selected by the "pro-life" President George Walker Bush to be the "homeland security czar" in the White House and then the first Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, something that prompted me to write No Homeland Security for the Preborn), and his successor in the governor's mansion in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell, a Jew, who served from January 21, 2003, to January 18, 2011. We do not live in such a just world. Far from it, obviously.

Ridge and Rendell, among others, permitted Butcher Gosnell's killing center to operate without needed inspections and even though complaints were filed with various government agencies in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and lawsuits brought against Gosnell (this has been verified now; see Allegations in Philly Abortion Doc Case Sparks D.C. Debate.) No, the pro-aborts Ridge and Rendell refused enforce the existing laws on this "legal" facility where those "safe" killings of preborn babies take place now that this bloody trade has emerged from the back alleys and that women have been, we are told by baby-killers and their apologists in the secular media and in the realms of education and law and politics, "liberated" and "empowered" by having access to "safe" and "legal" baby-killing. No one in any government agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or in the City of Philadelphia were trying to verify reports as to whether babies were being butchered in a "safe" environment for their mothers to "choose" to kill them. And they did not even seemed alarmed by the conditions found in Butcher Gosnell's killing center when inspections showed them to be exactly as had been described in various complaints and lawsuits:

PHILADELPHIA - Regulators ignored report after report of horrific conditions at a squalid abortion clinic, prosecutors said, leaving a trail of missed chances over the years to stop a doctor from performing illegal, late-term abortions that killed at least two patients and hundreds of newborns.

The officials' failure to follow up on complaints against Dr. Kermit Gosnell came amid a "live and let die" political climate that effectively ended inspections of all abortion clinics in Pennsylvania, according to the grand jury that indicted Gosnell.

Gosnell, 69 - a family practice physician not certified to perform abortions - was arraigned Thursday on charges of murdering seven babies and one patient. The indictment against him detailed a gruesome litany of failures and refusals to uphold even the most basic public health guidelines.

Authorities allege that Gosnell and a fleet of undertrained - sometimes untrained - workers ran a ghoulish operation in Philadelphia in which labor was induced in very late-term pregnancies with unsanitary equipment, the viable babies born alive and killed with scissors to the spine, and their body parts left in jars - or clogging plumbing into which unattended women had given birth.

Nearly a decade ago, according to legal documents, a former Gosnell employee gave the state's Board of Medicine a complaint that "laid out the whole scope of his operation: the unclean, unsterile conditions; the unlicensed workers; the unsupervised sedation; the underage abortion patients; even the over-prescribing of pain pills with high resale value on the street."

Nothing was done.

In its report, the grand jury said failures of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and other agencies - including the Department of State, under which the Board of Medicine falls - allowed the clinic to operate nearly unimpeded since the late '70s. It hadn't been inspected since 1993 and wasn't closed until it was finally raided as part of a drug bust early last year.

"We think the reason no one acted is because the women in question were poor and of color, because the victims were infants without identities and because the subject was the political football of abortion," the grand jury wrote. . . .

Complaints about Gosnell to state regulators went nowhere, even though 46 lawsuits - including one over the death of a 22-year-old woman in 2000 - had been filed against him.

In its report, the grand jury said the department's chief counsel, Christine Dutton, defended the department's indifference. "People die," she said.

The grand jury's 261-page report several missed or ignored opportunities to close the clinic over the years, including:

- a doctor from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia who complained about patients contracting venereal diseases after Gosnell abortions.

- a medical examiner in suburban Delaware County who told the Health Department that Gosnell had performed an illegal abortion on a 14-year-old girl carrying a 30-week-old fetus. Abortions after 24 weeks, or about six months, are illegal in Pennsylvania.

- the Health Department being told of the November 2009 death of Karnamaya Mongar, a 41-year-old refugee from Nepal who perished at the clinic after being given too much Demerol and other drugs.

Gosnell earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and is board certified in family practice. He started, but did not finish, a residency in obstetrics-gynecology, authorities said.

The State Health Department first gave the clinic, the Women's Medical Society, a one-year license when it opened in 1979, when a certified ob-gyn and nurses were listed as employees. The state approval expired in 1980, but the next site review did not come until 1989.

By then, Gosnell was the only doctor on site, and the clinic had no nurses and no outside lab work being done, the grand jury report says. Promises were made to improve the failings, and the state renewed its approval.

In 1992, a visit showed there were still no nurses or ob-gyn, and nothing suggests the state inspectors checked any patient files, the report says. Inspectors left blank the sections on who was providing anesthesia and post-operative care. They concluded "no deficiencies."

The final inspection came in April 1993, four years after Gosnell had promised to hire nurses. There were none in the recovery room, according to the report. The state cited Gosnell for expired medications and missing lab work but said the problems had been remedied - though there was no follow-up inspection - three months later.

The state's reluctance to investigate through several administrations may stem partly from the political sensitivity of the abortion debate, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said.

The office of former Gov. Ed Rendell, the Democrat who preceded Corbett, said he was traveling and couldn't be reached for comment to The Associated Press. Republican former Gov. Tom Ridge did not respond to a request for comment.

Most doctors won't perform abortions after 20 weeks because of the risks. Authorities say Gosnell's clients paid $325 for first-trimester abortions and $1,600 to $3,000 for abortions up to 30 weeks.

In a typical late-term abortion, the fetus is dismembered in the uterus and then removed in pieces. That is more common than the procedure opponents call "partial-birth abortion," in which the fetus is partially extracted before being destroyed.

The grand jury's report notes that hundreds of babies were probably killed over the years - but elapsed time and destroyed records are preventing a larger prosecution.

The grand jury charged Gosnell with the death of only one patient, Mongar. But its report details the death, years earlier, of a 22-year-old woman whose uterus Gosnell perforated during an abortion, prosecutors said. After she died of sepsis, Gosnell settled a civil suit for nearly $1 million. His insurance company forwarded details to the state Board of Medicine, but "department attorneys dismissed this complaint, too," the report said.

Nine clinic employees are charged besides Gosnell. Four of them are charged with murder, and five others were charged with conspiracy, drug and other crimes. All were arraigned Thursday along with Gosnell. (DA: Many missed chances to close Philadelphia baby-killing center.)

Many "pro-life" commentators, including those who are attached to the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism but whose "commentary" on these matters is thoroughly naturalistic, something that befits the "reconciliation" between the conciliar church and the anti-Incarnational principles of the modern civil state, are decrying the brutality of such monstrous acts and irresponsibility of politically-motivated pro-abort elected officials and their political appointees who are ideologically committed to the protect of the myth of "safe" and "legal" baby-killing that not even the deplorable conditions at Butcher Gosnell's butcher's shop could move them to admit that maybe, just maybe, "legal" baby-killing is not so "safe" after all. Some, including a woman named Christine Flowers (see A Wake Up Call on Abortion), who commented on a recent report that four in ten babies in the City of New York have their lives snuffed out at the city's abortuaries, which have been championed by mayors who have been Episcopalian (John Vliet Lindsay, David Norman Dinkins), Jewish (Abraham David Beame, Edward Irving Koch, Michael Rubens Bloomberg) and Catholic (Rudolph William Giuliani) since baby-killing became "legal" in the first twenty-four weeks of pregnancy in the State of New York on April 11, 1970, believe that Butcher Gosnell's crimes will "wake up" the pro-abortion lobby. No, they will not.

Why not? Once again, I am so glad that you asked. I will try to be very brief.

Those who are committed to the systematic slaughter of the preborn under the cover of the civil law know that babies are being killed. They know that women still die from their so-called "safe" and "legal" abortions that are not so "rare" and can never be made "rare" as long as women have surgical baby-killing available to them on a "legal" basis if the use of contraceptives should fail, a point that was made by three--that's right, three--Republican appointees to the Supreme Court (Reagan appointees Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy and George Herbert Walker Bush's appointee, David Souter) the case of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey, June 29, 1992:

Although Roe has engendered opposition, it has in no sense proven unworkable, representing as it does a simple limitation beyond which a state law is unenforceable. P. 835.

(e) The Roe rule's limitation on state power could not be repudiated without serious inequity to people who, for two decades of economic and social developments, have organized intimate relationships and made choices that define their views of themselves and their places in society, in reliance on the availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail. The ability of women to participate equally in the economic and social life of the Nation has been facilitated by their ability to control their reproductive lives. The Constitution serves human values, and while the effect of reliance on Roe cannot be exactly measured, neither can the certain costs of overruling Roe for people who have ordered their thinking and living around that case be dismissed. Pp. 855-856.

(f) No evolution of legal principle has left Roe's central rule a doctrinal anachronism discounted by society. If Roe is placed among the cases exemplified by Griswold, supra, it is clearly in no jeopardy, since subsequent constitutional developments have neither disturbed, nor do they threaten to diminish, the liberty recognized in such cases. Similarly, if Roe is seen as stating a rule of personal autonomy and bodily integrity, akin to cases recognizing limits on governmental power to mandate medical treatment or to bar its rejection, this Court's post-Roe decisions accord with Roe's view that a State's interest in the protection of life falls short of justifying any plenary override of individual liberty claims. See, e.g., Cruzan v. Director, M. Dept. of Health, 497 U.S. 261, 278 . Finally, if Roe is classified as sui generis, there clearly has been no erosion of its central determination. It was expressly reaffirmed in Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, Inc., 462 U.S. 416 (Akron I), and Thornburgh v. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 476 U.S. 747 ; and, in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, 492 U.S. 490 , a majority either voted to reaffirm or declined to address the constitutional validity of Roe's central holding. Pp. 857-859. (Text of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey.)

Pro-aborts will remain completely committed to the killing of babies, both by chemical and surgical means. It is easy for those who have deadened consciences and hardened hearts to ignore the simple truth that the crimes committed by Butcher Gosnell are committed every day in this country and around the world under the aegis of "protecting" women in "safe" environments under cover of the civil law whether they kill their own immortal souls while paying for the butchery of their babies at the same time. Butcher Gosnell's case is not going to "convert" pro-aborts in public life or in the medical industry or in the august halls of academe where I was taught but was viewed as a pariah for being outspoken in my defense of absolute inviolability of all innocent human life from the moment of conception through all subsequent stages until natural death.

When one comes right down it, you see, Butcher Gosnell got caught. Others commit his crimes every day and go scot-free because there is a conspiracy of silence in one venue after another to misreport deaths of women in "safe" and "legal" abortuaries. The police don't care. Indeed, many of them look with suspicion and scorn upon the "crazy" people who still pray their Rosaries in front of the killing centers. Some of them have brutalized priests and elderly women who participated in Operation Rescue. Prosecutors don't care. Most politicians don't care. Those in the medical industry don't care, at least for the most part. No, Butcher Gosnell got caught. That's why this case is different, and that is all that is different about this case. He got caught.

In truth, you see, the crimes committed by Butcher Kermit Gosnell, who made quite a fortunate killing the babies of his fellow black Americans in the Philadelphia area, although certainly gruesome and heinous, are no more morally heinous than any other kind of baby-killing. While the civil law can and does take recognition of the nature and circumstances in which a murder of set of murders takes place, seeking to impose more severe punishment upon those who have used different kinds of weapons or devices in their taking of an innocent human life or lives, the direct, intentional taking of any innocent human life is the same crime morally before God, Who makes no distinction between the killing of a six-day old child in his mother's womb and that of ninety-six year-old man. Each innocent human life is inviolable. No matter the deplorable methods used to kill any innocent human being, the moral crime remains the same. Killing a baby by means of a suction machine is the same crime before God as killing a baby in the manner employed by Butcher Gosnell.

There have been other Butcher Gosnells who have been exposed in the past. Their stories have come and gone, fading from the consciousness of even those who are pro-life activists. Nothing much will change now, although the case of Butcher Gosnell, for whose conversion to the Catholic Faith before he dies we must beseech the Mother of God very fervently, will certainly attract attention in the speeches that made in the rally held on the Capitol Mall prior to the March for Life on Monday, January 24, 2011.

Other than that, though, most people, including most Catholics, will go back to their bread and circuses. After all, you've got really important things happening this weekend such as the National Football League championship title games to decide which two teams will play in the spectacle of American excess and extravagance known as the Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, February 6, 2011 (I will be giving a lecture that day, thank you very much; I care not for football or hockey or basketball, having only a residual interest in the game on which I wasted so much of my life, baseball), right? Why let Butcher Kermit Gosnell get in the way of enjoying the Chicago Bears versus the Green Bay Packers or the New Jersey (properly called) Jets versus the Pittsburgh Steelers? And this is what must happen when men and their nations fall away from the Catholic Faith and the exercise of the Social Reign of Christ King: they must return to barbarism, content to live quite comfortably as four thousand children die every day from surgical baby-killing alone under the cover of civil law in "safe" killing centers.

"Legal" baby-killing can never be "safe" or "rare" no matter how many times politicians incant that phrase or its variations (George W. Bush actually said in a television interview that aired on CBS-TV on Saturday, January 20, 2001, the morning of his inauguration to his first term as president, that he wanted to make sure that abortions were "safe and less numerous," aping the man he was about to succeed, William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, who had mouthed the slogan of "keeping abortion safe, legal and rare").

No secular, religiously indifferentist, interdenominational or nondenominational or legal means is going to end baby-killing under cover of law. Indeed, "pro-life" Americans have become so used to the daily killings that take place in our nation that most of them will accept the rhetoric from politicians at the rally prior to the March for Life in two days that they are committed to ending Federal funding of abortion as though that's what this fight has been about for the past nearly four decades. There was a time, and I was there practically every year, when some politicians actually spoke about supporting an amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America to reverse Roe v. Wade and to establish legal personhood for the preborn. No more. No more. Contraception and abortion have become too ingrained in American life and culture for naturalists of the "right" to dare to upset "swing" voters with such "radical" talk, and thus contraception and abortion become even more institutionalized.

This does not meant that remain inert and passive in the face of this genocide of the preborn. Not at all. The New York Times reported today, Saturday, January 22, 2010, that many of the newly elected members of state legislatures, acting in conjunction with some of the newly elected state governors, including Governor Sam Brownback of the State of Kansas, across the nation are planning to enact whatever curbs they can to restrict surgical abortions in their respective states (see Across Country, Lawmakers Push Abortion Curbs.) This is, of course, very, very commendable as long as concessions are not made to the so-called “exceptions” that many well-meaning pro-life legislators believe as a matter of principle without realizing that there is never any instance in which it is morally licit to directly intend to take an innocent human life and that the civil law can never sanction such an action. That many pro-life legislators do not understand this is the work of the National Not-So-Right-to Life Committee, whose leaders accept direct, intentional baby-killing in instances where it is alleged that a mother’s life is endangered while also, it should be noted, taking no stand in opposition to contraception, which is one of the proximate roots of how there came to be a demand for surgical baby-killing on demand.

As commendable as the efforts of these legislators to limit surgical baby-killing in their respective states is, however, the fact remains that these efforts hang by the slender thread of a single vote on the Supreme Court of the United States of America, which is divided currently by the presence of four firm pro-death votes (Associate Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan) and four votes for “state sovereignty” on issues relating to surgical baby-killing (Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito). Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy is the slender thread by which the efforts that are being undertaken by many newly elected state legislators in their respective states to limit surgical baby-killing hangs.

Consider, my good and few readers, how this stands in contrast to what the situation would be in a nation whose leaders were duly submissive to the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised by Holy Mother Church. Legislators, executives and judges would understand that they were governed in their actions by the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law as they have been entrusted by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ exclusively to His Catholic Church for their eternal safekeeping and infallible explication. Officials in a nation governed by Catholic truth would seek to pursue the common temporal good in light of man’s Last End, which is, of course, the possession of the glory of the Beatific Vision of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost for all eternity. They would understand that it was their obligation to foster those conditions in which men could better sanctify and thus to save their souls as members of the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order.

The modern civil state is founded on the shifting sands of popular sovereignty and/or the shifting sands of the whims of the caesars and caesarettes in the civil government. Thus it is that well-meaning legislative efforts to limit surgical-baby killing in various states depends upon the whims of legal positivists (men and women who believe that a particular legislative act or judicial edict automatically carry the weight of morality that binds all citizens) such as Anthony Kennedy, who is a Catholic (as are John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Sonia Sotomayor). Those efforts also depend upon the health of Antonin Scalia, who has, at the age of seventy-four, ballooned up in weight in recent years and could stand to read There Is No Shortcut to Cure This Condition. Conformance of the civil law to the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law should be on slightly firmer ground than the whims and health of mere men. They must be founded in the solid bedrock of the Catholic Faith. There is no substitute as what is done at one time in our system can be undone at another.

As noted in my republished piece from a year ago today,  Thirty-Seven Years of Indifference, we do not surrender ourselves to indifference or apathy in the wake of the American genocide. We should gather together with our fellow traditional Catholics to pray Our Lady’s Rosary in front of killing centers at least once a month, if not more frequently, preferably on a Saturday, and serve as a peaceful, prayerful presence as we pray for the conversion of those working in the bloody trade of baby-killing and to make reparation for the crimes against God and man that take place there. One of the prayers that I have prayed each day for nearly four decades now is that at least one woman considering killing her child (and her soul) at every killing center in this country and around the world will choose not to do so. There is no better means to make that prayer fruitful than to attach it to our intentions as we pray Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary, of which the so-called “luminous mysteries” are not a part and must never be prayed by anyone who sincerely loves the Mother of God as they are a mockery of her and of her Psalter that is the Rosary that she gave to our champion, Saint Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers.

While it is certainly true that the advance of such evils as contraception and abortion, both chemical and surgical, and perversity under cover of the civil law has been made possible, proximately speaking, by the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by Protestant Revolution and by the subsequent rise of the forces of naturalism that can be termed collectively as Judeo-Masonry, and by the sacramental barrenness of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, whose lords have made their “peace” with the anti-Incarnational principles of Modernity, we do not wait for the restoration of Holy Mother Church in order to do what we can to help combat this advance of evil. We pray, we fast, we make sacrifices as the consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is also important, though, to plant seeds among those whom God’s Holy Providence places in our paths to help them understand the world more clearly through the supernatural eyes of the Holy Faith, the one and true Faith, the Catholic Faith, so that they will not fall prey to the slogans that pass for popular “thought” and action in our land today.

As I have noted in past years and will repeat again this year, it is from Divine Revelation that we must oppose the evils of our day, including the evil of abortion, as we try to plant the seeds as the totally consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of His Most Blessed Mother for the conversion of men and their nations to an acceptance of the Catholic Faith as the one and only basis of personal and social order. All other "solutions" are really no "solutions" at all. They are illusions from the devil designed to distract people from the simple truth that it is a complete and humble subordination of all that we do, both individually in our own lives and collectively with others in society, to Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as He has revealed Himself through His Catholic Church that we can root out sin and vice from our own lives and thus to ameliorate its effects in every aspect of the life of our nations.

The Second Person of the Blessed Trinity--the Logos, the Word--through Whom all things were made could have become Man in any way of His choosing. He chose to become Man by being conceived as a helpless embryo in His Blessed Mother's Virginal and Immaculate Womb by the power of the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, God the Holy Ghost. Our Lord thereby placed Himself in solidarity with every child in every mother's womb no matter the condition of the conception and no matter the condition of the child conceived, whether "healthy" or suffering from some physical "deformity."

Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is God. He is the Lord of history, knowing all things. He knew what would be happening in the world in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries as hundreds of millions of babies worldwide would be killed by means of chemical and surgical abortions. He was teaching while He spent nine months in the tabernacle of His Blessed Mother's Virginal and Immaculate Womb that an attack upon an innocent preborn human being is a mystical attack upon Himself:

And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me. (Mt. 25: 40.)

No one can say that he "loves" Our Lord but nevertheless supports His mystical destruction in the persons of preborn babies in their mothers' wombs under cover of law, whether by surgical or chemical means. Those Catholics who say that they are "good Catholics" who "love" Our Lord while supporting the destruction of the least of His brethren in the womb are supporting an indirect attack on the Incarnation itself. Our Lord chose to be the prisoner of Our Lady's Virginal and Immaculate Womb. He teaches us that each preborn human life is inviolable from any direct, intentional attack upon it. No human being, whether acting individually or collectively with others in the institutions of civil governance, has any authority found in the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law or the Natural Law to permit one single abortion, whether by chemical or surgical means.

Opposing abortion is as simple as saying: "God has given us His Fifth Commandment: 'Thou shalt not kill.' This is the end of the argument. Period."

Although various theologians over the centuries argued about when "ensoulment" takes place, such arguments are extraneous to the simple fact that an innocent human life never may be targeted deliberately as the first object of an attack upon it. Moreover, although Holy Mother Church has never defined "ensoulment" as such in a de fide manner as it relates to abortion, she has taught us that Our Lord had a true human nature hypostatically united to His Sacred Divinity at the moment of His Incarnation, that is, at the moment of His conception by the power of God the Holy Ghost. He had to have His Theandric soul at that moment, just as His Most Blessed Mother was preserved from all stain of Original and Actual Sin from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception in the womb of her mother, Good Saint Ann.

It is my hope and prayer that those who read this site will spend time today on their knees before Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in His Real Presence in the Most Blessed Sacrament (if a chapel where He is truly present is reasonably nearby) and to pray all fifteen decades of Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary. I realize that this may not be possible given the commitments and duties of one's state-in-life. One can, at the very least, send his Guardian Angel to pray for him in front of the Blessed Sacrament. And those who spend time commuting in their vehicles might be able to manage to pray all fifteen decades of Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary on their way to and from work or school.

Each family should, however, find some time today to pray an extra set of mysteries of the Rosary if it is not possible to pray in reparation for abortion, both chemical and surgical, and for the conversion of those of who have had, performed, participated in or been supportive of abortion in any way, shape or form, remembering also to pray for the day that the United States of America will become the Catholic States of America. God will never "bless" a land that is responsible for the shedding of so much innocent blood under cover of law, a land that has spread, in the name of "civil and religious liberty," mind you, Protestant "churches" and Masonic "lodges" in formerly Catholic countries, taking many souls out of the true Church in the process, a country that has spread fashions and "entertainment" fare that have been responsible for the poisoning of so many souls.

In addition to our daily Rosaries and the acts of reparation we make to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, who better to turn do in our efforts to restore the Faith in this time of barbarism in the world and apostasy and betrayal on the part of the Modernists than to our beloved Saint Joseph, the Patron of the Universal Church and the Protector of the Faithful:

O Blessed Saint Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of God, we pray and beseech thee to offer to God the Father, His divine Son, bathed in blood on the cross for sinners, and through the thrice-holy Name of Jesus, obtain for us from the eternal Father the favor we implore.

Appease the Divine anger so justly inflamed by our crimes, beg of Jesus mercy for thy children. Amid the splendors of eternity, forget not the sorrows of those who suffer, those who pray, those who weep; stay the Almighty arm which smites us, that by thy prayers and those of thy most holy Spouse, the Heart of Jesus may be moved to pity and to pardon. Amen.
