Accepting Evil With Ease

by Thomas A. Droleskey

Efforts to fight the advance of various grave social evils with naturalism are bound to fail. Our true popes have told us this is so:

This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty. (Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832.)

For you well know, venerable brethren, that at this time men are found not a few who, applying to civil society the impious and absurd principle of "naturalism," as they call it, dare to teach that "the best constitution of public society and (also) civil progress altogether require that human society be conducted and governed without regard being had to religion any more than if it did not exist; or, at least, without any distinction being made between the true religion and false ones." And, against the doctrine of Scripture, of the Church, and of the Holy Fathers, they do not hesitate to assert that "that is the best condition of civil society, in which no duty is recognized, as attached to the civil power, of restraining by enacted penalties, offenders against the Catholic religion, except so far as public peace may require." From which totally false idea of social government they do not fear to foster that erroneous opinion, most fatal in its effects on the Catholic Church and the salvation of souls, called by Our Predecessor, Gregory XVI, an "insanity," viz., that "liberty of conscience and worship is each man's personal right, which ought to be legally proclaimed and asserted in every rightly constituted society; and that a right resides in the citizens to an absolute liberty, which should be restrained by no authority whether ecclesiastical or civil, whereby they may be able openly and publicly to manifest and declare any of their ideas whatever, either by word of mouth, by the press, or in any other way." But, while they rashly affirm this, they do not think and consider that they are preaching "liberty of perdition;" and that "if human arguments are always allowed free room for discussion, there will never be wanting men who will dare to resist truth, and to trust in the flowing speech of human wisdom; whereas we know, from the very teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, how carefully Christian faith and wisdom should avoid this most injurious babbling."

And, since where religion has been removed from civil society, and the doctrine and authority of divine revelation repudiated, the genuine notion itself of justice and human right is darkened and lost, and the place of true justice and legitimate right is supplied by material force, thence it appears why it is that some, utterly neglecting and disregarding the surest principles of sound reason, dare to proclaim that "the people's will, manifested by what is called public opinion or in some other way, constitutes a supreme law, free from all divine and human control; and that in the political order accomplished facts, from the very circumstance that they are accomplished, have the force of right." But who, does not see and clearly perceive that human society, when set loose from the bonds of religion and true justice, can have, in truth, no other end than the purpose of obtaining and amassing wealth, and that (society under such circumstances) follows no other law in its actions, except the unchastened desire of ministering to its own pleasure and interests? (Pope Pius IX, Quanta Cura, December 8, 1864.)

This generative and conservative power of the virtues that make for salvation is therefore lost, whenever morality is dissociated from divine faith. A system of morality based exclusively on human reason robs man of his highest dignity and lowers him from the supernatural to the merely natural life. Not but that man is able by the right use of reason to know and to obey certain principles of the natural law. But though he should know them all and keep them inviolate through life-and even this is impossible without the aid of the grace of our Redeemer-still it is vain for anyone without faith to promise himself eternal salvation. "If anyone abide not in Me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire, and he burneth" john xv., 6). "He that believeth not shall be condemned" (Mark xvi., 16). We have but too much evidence of the value and result of a morality divorced from divine faith. How is it that, in spite of all the zeal for the welfare of the masses, nations are in such straits and even distress, and that the evil is daily on the increase? We are told that society is quite able to help itself; that it can flourish without the assistance of Christianity, and attain its end by its own unaided efforts. Public administrators prefer a purely secular system of government. All traces of the religion of our forefathers are daily disappearing from political life and administration. What blindness! Once the idea of the authority of God as the Judge of right and wrong is forgotten, law must necessarily lose its primary authority and justice must perish: and these are the two most powerful and most necessary bonds of society. Similarly, once the hope and expectation of eternal happiness is taken away, temporal goods will be greedily sought after. Every man will strive to secure the largest share for himself. Hence arise envy, jealousy, hatred. The consequences are conspiracy, anarchy, nihilism. There is neither peace abroad nor security at home. Public life is stained with crime. (Pope Leo XIII, Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900.)

This, nevertheless, is what they want to do with human society; they dream of changing its natural and traditional foundations; they dream of a Future City built on different principles, and they dare to proclaim these more fruitful and more beneficial than the principles upon which the present Christian City rests.

No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker - the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. omnia instaurare in Christo. (Pope Saint Pius X, Notre Charge Apostolique, August 15, 1910.)

Yes, I have included these (and similar) passages from the writings of our true popes hundreds of times on this site.

No, I will never tire of quoting these passages.

Why?

Thanks for asking. The answer is simple: most Catholics in the United States of America today, no matter where they find themselves along the vast expanse of the ecclesiastical divide in this time of apostasy and betrayal, voluntarily immerse themselves in the injurious babbling of naturalism, listening to this or that talking head on the radio or watching this or that talking head on television. The old saying of "you are what you eat" can be changed as follows to describe the insidious effects of naturalism on the mind of a supposedly believing Catholic: "You are what you listen to. You are what you watch. You are what you read." Those who believe themselves to be "strong enough" to withstand a steady dose of the injurious babbling of naturalists, men and women who believe that it is not necessary to premise social order upon a due submission in all that pertains to the good of souls to the Sacred Deposit of Faith as Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has entrusted It exclusively to His Catholic Church for Its eternal safekeeping and infallible explication, deceive themselves, becoming agitated at the rantings and ravings of naturalists who, driven by a Calvinist desire to make as much money as possible by driving up advertising rates on their programs, believe that there is some naturalistic, secularistic, interdenominational or nondenominational way to retard the social evils of the day.

Such is the case now with the decision announced on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, by the Attorney General of the United States of America, Eric Holder, who, as then Attorney General Janet Reno's Deputy Attorney General, helped to arrange the pardon for fugitive financier Marc Rich, whose former wife, Denise Rich, had been a major fund-raiser for the organized crime family of naturalism called the Democratic Party, by then President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton in the waning days of Clinton's administration ten years ago now, to cease the Justice Department's defense of Section 3 of the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" (DOMA), which was signed into law by Clinton on September 21, 1996, that defines marriage as existing only between one man and one woman. (See "Statement of the Attorney General on Litigation Involving the Defense of Marriage Act for the text of Holder's statement). Holder acted at the behest of our reigning caesar, Barackus Obmaus Ignoramus, whose position on "marriages" between persons of the same gender is said to be "evolving" in such a way as to lead him to direct the Justice Department to cease its defense of Section 3 of "DOMA."  This has set off a firetorm among some "social conservatives," although how anyone can be surprised at the Obama-Holder decision is truly mystifying as both are relativists of the first order.

What is interesting to note at this time is the relatively placid reaction of other members of the false opposite of the naturalist "right" that goes by the name of "conservatism." Many naturalists of the "right" have been very silent about the Obama-Holder decision as they have, it appears, accepted the advance of what Mrs. Randy Engel calls the "homosexual collective" with great ease in the name of "equality" and "tolerance" and "diversity" and as they give disproportionate deference to the political weight of those steeped in unrepentant perverse sins against the Sixth and Ninth Commandments just as much as they give disproportionate deference to anything demanded by members of Talmudic lobby groups, especially those supporting the murderous policies of the State of Israel. To accept evil with ease comes naturally in a world of naturalism, my good and increasingly disappearing readers. Indeed, to accept evil with ease is the only logical end that can result from a social system premised upon one naturalistic falsehood after another.

Here is a story that deals with the placid reaction of many prominent "conservatives," including some who are possible contenders for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination:

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s decision to abandon his legal support for the Defense of Marriage Act has generated only mild rebukes from the Republicans hoping to succeed him in 2012, evidence of a shifting political climate in which social issues are being crowded out by economic concerns.

The Justice Department announced on Wednesday that after two years of defending the law — hailed by proponents in 1996 as an cornerstone in the protection of traditional values — the president and his attorney general have concluded it is unconstitutional.

In the hours that followed, Sarah Palin’s Facebook site was silent. Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, was close-mouthed. Tim Pawlenty, the former governor of Minnesota, released a Web video — on the labor union protests in Wisconsin — and waited a day before issuing a marriage statement saying he was “disappointed.”

Others, like Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, and Haley Barbour, the governor of Mississippi, took their time weighing in, and then did so only in the most tepid terms. “The Justice Department is supposed to defend our laws,” Mr. Barbour said.

Asked if Mitch Daniels, the Republican governor of Indiana and a possible presidential candidate, had commented on the marriage decision, a spokeswoman said that he “hasn’t, and with other things we have going on here right now, he has no plans.”

The sharpest reaction came from Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, in an interview here during a stop to promote his new book, who called the administration’s decision “utterly inexplicable.”

A few years ago, the president’s decision might have set off an intense national debate about gay rights. But the Republicans’ reserved response this week suggests that Mr. Obama may suffer little political damage as he evolves from what many gay rights leaders saw as a lackluster defender of their causes into a far more aggressive advocate.

“The wedge has lost its edge,” said Mark McKinnon, a Republican strategist who worked for President George W. Bush during his 2004 campaign, when gay marriage ballot measures in a dozen states helped turn out conservative voters.

Mr. Obama’s move provoked some outrage, especially among evangelical Christians and conservative groups like the Family Research Council. In a statement Wednesday, Tony Perkins, president of the council, condemned the president’s decision as pandering.

But Republican strategists and gay rights activists said on Thursday that the issue’s power as a political tool for Republican candidates is diminishing. While surveys suggest that Americans are evenly divided on whether the federal government should recognize gay marriages, opposition has fallen from nearly 70 percent in 1996.

Prominent Republicans like Dick Cheney, the former vice president, and Barbara Bush, daughter of the former president, have defended the right of gays to marry. And Mr. Obama has been emboldened by the largely positive response to his recent, and successful, push for Congress to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the military’s ban on gays serving openly.

At the same time, the rise of the Tea Party movement, and the success that Republicans had last year in attacking Democratic candidates on economic issues, has pushed the debate over abortion and gay rights to the back burner.

“I don’t think this is the issue that it once was,” said John Feehery, a Republican strategist. “I think that the economic issues are so big that this one pales in comparison.” (Gay Marriage Seems to Wane as Conservative Issue.)

Ah, yes, the money, the money, the money, the money. It's always the "money" that matters.

Who cares about the blood of the innocent preborn?

Who cares about the denying the absolute Sovereignty of God over the sanctity and fecundity of marriage by means of contraceptive pills and devices?

Who cares about assaults against the innocence and purity of the young in the name of "First Amendment 'freedoms" and by means of explicit classroom instruction in matters pertaining to the Sixth and Ninth Commandments?

Who cares about violating the Natural Law right of parents to serve as the principal educators of their children by means of state-imposed curriculum and attendance requirements that are unjust and immoral on their very face?

Who cares about the promotion of the sin that brought fire and brimstone down on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha?

Who cares? We should care, that's who, as the "money" is going to continue to disappear as part of God's just chastisement upon the United States of America for its promotion of grave sins under cover of the civil law and all throughout what is referred to as "popular culture."

We have been warned. We have refused to listen to the warnings. Consider this one from the Sixteenth Century, cited by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical letter on the Christian Education of Youth, Divini Illius Magistri, December 31, 1929:

The more closely the temporal power of a nation aligns itself with the spiritual, and the more it fosters and promotes the latter, by so much the more it contributes to the conservation of the commonwealth. For it is the aim of the ecclesiastical authority by the use of spiritual means, to form good Christians in accordance with its own particular end and object; and in doing this it helps at the same time to form good citizens, and prepares them to meet their obligations as members of a civil society. This follows of necessity because in the City of God, the Holy Roman Catholic Church, a good citizen and an upright man are absolutely one and the same thing. How grave therefore is the error of those who separate things so closely united, and who think that they can produce good citizens by ways and methods other than those which make for the formation of good Christians. For, let human prudence say what it likes and reason as it pleases, it is impossible to produce true temporal peace and tranquillity by things repugnant or opposed to the peace and happiness of eternity. (Silvio Cardinal Antoniano, quoted by Pope Pius XI in Divini Illius Magistri, December 31, 1929.)

It is illusory to believe that men and their nations can know the blessing of God as they misuse freedom as a cloak for vice. There can never be long term, sustained material prosperity as long as men promote evil after evil and as they envelope themselves in the cloak of naturalism and mouth its demonic slogans robotically.

Alas, naturalists of the false opposite of the "right" believe that men can, whether acting by themselves or collectively with others in the institutions of civil governance, decide to "permit" or "restrict" such evils as chemical and surgical baby-killing and "marriage" between persons of the same gender. God's Sacred Right and His Commandments must be respected and obeyed by men and their nations lest they suffer the consequences for attempting dishonor and defy those rights and commandments. The "people" are not sovereign." Christ the King alone the true Sovereign of men and their nations.

Pope Pius XI, though discussing "civil unions" to recognize men and women who were living together as a "married couple" without benefit of even a civilly recognized marriage, no less a sacramentally valid marriage, explained that the civil state has no authority from God to recognize and confer benefits upon objectively sinful behavior:

Armed with these principles, some men go so far as to concoct new species of unions, suited, as they say, to the present temper of men and the times, which various new forms of matrimony they presume to label "temporary," "experimental," and "companionate." These offer all the indulgence of matrimony and its rights without, however, the indissoluble bond, and without offspring, unless later the parties alter their cohabitation into a matrimony in the full sense of the law.

Indeed there are some who desire and insist that these practices be legitimatized by the law or, at least, excused by their general acceptance among the people. They do not seem even to suspect that these proposals partake of nothing of the modern "culture" in which they glory so much, but are simply hateful abominations which beyond all question reduce our truly cultured nations to the barbarous standards of savage peoples.

Contrary to what naturalists who label themselves as "liberals" or "libertarians" or even many "conservatives" contend, such things as baby-killing, whether chemical or surgical or both, or perverse sins against nature cannot be made "legal" by a decision or a court or by a legislative enactment or executive order or by a plebiscite to reflect "the will of the people," which is considered by many naturalists, especially the libertarians, as the "will of God" that must govern legislative enactments. In other words, human beings are demigods who are "free" to act as they desire, with a few exceptions here and there, of course, as long as the "will of the people" is observed. Naturalists of the liberal bent believe that judges and other potentates can do what they want no matter what the "people" may desire.

This is all erroneous as contingent beings who did not create themselves and whose bodies are destined one day for the corruption of the grave until the General Resurrection of the Dead on the Last Day do not "determine" moral truth any more than they determine the physical laws of nature. The law of gravity cannot be "repealed" by a decision of a judge or of a president or of a government or a mayor. The law of gravity cannot be "repealed" by a majority vote of a human legislature or the majority vote of the "people" in a plebiscite (a referendum on a particular issue that is put to the voters at a general or a special election for their approval or rejection, sometimes originating as a result of legislative initiative or state constructional mandate and sometimes originating as as result of a grass roots petition drive to place a particular question on the ballot, which is called an "initial." one of the "good government" reforms of the Progressive Era). It is also true that the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law cannot be repealed by the pronouncement of any judge or executive or legislative or popular enactments.

It is that simple.

That most people in the world do not believe this today is the result of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolution and institutionalized by the myriad of inter-related naturalistic forces of Judeo-Masonry that promote the falsehood that men can live as brothers as they "respect" different religious beliefs and even unbelief itself as they rely upon natural virtue to be good citizens.

There is no need to have a "Defense of Marriage Act." The fact that there is such a thing, whose "constitutionality" will be argued eventually before the Supreme Court of the United States of America on the grounds of whether the Congressional act is a proper application of the "full faith and credit" and "effects" provision of Article IV (Sections 1 and 4, respectively) of the Constitution of the United States (which it is) or whether the matter of the denial of "marriage licenses" to those engaged in perverse sins against nature is in violation of the "equal protection of the law" clause of the Fourteenth Amendment (as Barack Hussein Obama and Eric Holder believe), is a sign of the madness in which we live.

Could imagine a "Defense of Gravity Act" (DOGA)? Men are given the capacity by God to know certain things that He had written in their very hearts, such as the simple truth that no central or national or state or local government has any "right" from God to enact laws that "permit" "marriages" between persons of the same gender? Marriage is not "defined" by a court or a legislature or by the people. God had told us what marriage is, and He speaks infallibly through His true Church, the Catholic Church.

Judges in England after the Norman Conquest in 1066 in the Catholic Middle Ages sat in courtrooms adorned by the Crucifix (and it is the Crucifix, not the Ten Commandments, that we want placed in our own civic buildings after the conversion of this nation to the Catholic Faith and thus the Social Reign of Christ the King; see Whose Commandments?, which was written in my "resist but recognize" period). They used their sensus Catholicus to apply the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law (those laws revealed positively by God in Holy Writ and Sacred Tradition and have been taught in His Holy Name by Holy Mother Church) in individual cases to, make decisions and/or to impose punishments that were in accord with the dictates of strict justice and were commensurate with and proportionate to the facts of a given case. This is how, at least in large measure, the body of law known as Common Law emerged in Catholic England. These judge also understood that they themselves would be judged by Christ the King at the moment of their Particular Judgments with an exactitude of scrutiny for all of the judicial decisions that they handed handed down during their service on the bench. This sense is lost almost entirely as a result of the triumph of the Protestant and Masonic spirit that has corrupted and perverted the notion of law and justice.

The contemporary madness to enact laws about every aspect of life is but the sordid heritage of Protestantism's reliance on the "written word" alone and its rejection of Sacred Tradition. Everything must thus be written down, although that which is written down can be as subject to "reinterpretation" as are the words of Holy Writ itself as there is no ultimate authority given to Protestants to which they must give full assent of their wills. Thus it is that we have a phalanx of written laws and veritable army of lawyers and constitutional law experts to interpret the law according to a variety of principles, some of which conflict one with the other. There are some things that are just supposed to do without their being written down because they have been written onto the very flesh of our hearts by God Himself in the Natural Law and because Holy Mother Church has been given to us to explain how each apparent moral dilemma in our personal and social lives can be understood according to right principles, true principles, immutable principles of Catholic truth.

A Catholic simply knows that a marriage is between a man and a woman and he does not need to codify that in the civil law. There was never any "need: to do this in the Middle Ages. There is a "need" now because we are living through the manifestation of the perfection of the inherent degeneracy of the founding principles, based as they are upon Protestant errors and Judeo-Masonic naturalism.

Catholicism is the one and only foundation of personal and social order, and thus of sanity itself!

Catholics ought to be reminded of the simple truth that the civil state has an obligation to recognize the true religion and to be subordinate to the Catholic Church in all that pertains to to the good of souls, a truth that is immutable, as Pope Pius XI made abundantly clear in Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 22, 1923:

Many believe in or claim that they believe in and hold fast to Catholic doctrine on such questions as social authority, the right of owning private property, on the relations between capital and labor, on the rights of the laboring man, on the relations between Church and State, religion and country, on the relations between the different social classes, on international relations, on the rights of the Holy See and the prerogatives of the Roman Pontiff and the Episcopate, on the social rights of Jesus Christ, Who is the Creator, Redeemer, and Lord not only of individuals but of nations. In spite of these protestations, they speak, write, and, what is more, act as if it were not necessary any longer to follow, or that they did not remain still in full force, the teachings and solemn pronouncements which may be found in so many documents of the Holy See, and particularly in those written by Leo XIII, Pius X, and Benedict XV.

There is a species of moral, legal, and social modernism which We condemn, no less decidedly than We condemn theological modernism. (Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio, December 23, 1922.)

We must never accept evil with ease. We must not accept any evil that we may have done or said or thought with ease. We must not accept social evil with ease as "inevitable" or as of "lesser importance" because of "economic" concerns. Serious sin and the very inner life of the Most Blessed Trinity, that of Sanctifying Grace, cannot coexist in the same soul. Social order cannot be established and maintained in a nation where serious sin is accepted with ease and protected by the civil law in the false name of "human rights."

Let us make sure to use the weapon that was lifted high by Saint Pius X throughout his priesthood, Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary, as we seek to eradicate sin from all our own lives, making use of the Sacred Tribunal of Penance on a weekly basis and spending time before Our Lady's Divine Son in His Real Presence in the Most Blessed Sacrament as we offer up our daily acts of penance to His Most Sacred Heart through her own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart as her consecrated slaves. as we seek to make reparation for our own many sins. We must never doubt the fact that Our Lady's Immaculate Heart will triumph.

Let us use the spiritual weapons that Our Lord has given us through His Most Blessed Mother, understanding these words that Saint Paul wrote in his Epistle to the Ephesians apply to us right now in our current ecclesiastical and civil circumstances:

Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men, but, as the servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart, With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men. Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man shall do, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond, or free. And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings, knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven; and there is no respect of persons with him. Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord, and in the might of his power.

Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:

In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints: (Ephesians 6: 6-18.)
