Jorge Builds A Coalition In Support of Evil
One of the many ways in which the anti-Incarnational heresies of Modernity and the counterfeit church of conciliarism's thoroughly Modernist "reconciliation" with those principles has assaulted the sensus Catholicus of almost all Catholics worldwide, including a large percentage of those who rejected the nonexistent “legitimacy” of that false church’s spiritual robber barons, is to label a priest or a presbyter as “pro-life” or “pro-family.” It should go without saying that any man who considers himself ordained to the Holy Priesthood adheres to the totality of every article contained in the Sacred Deposit of Faith, including the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law. The fact that it is deemed necessary to label a priest or a presbyters as “pro-life” or “pro-family” is thus one of the most undiscussed aspects of the twin, interrelated revolutions of Modernity in the world and of Modernism in the counterfeit church of conciliarism.
Moreover, it should go without saying that a Catholic in public life, seeking always to please Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as He has revealed Himself to us through His true Church, adheres to everything contained in the Sacred Deposit of Faith, including the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law.
After all, Pope Leo XIII explained in Satis Cognitum, June 29, 1896, that Catholicism of its very nature as the one and only true religion produces agreement and union among minds. Such agreement and union are necessary to maintaining oneself as a member in good standing of Holy Mother Church:
Agreement and union of minds is the necessary foundation of this perfect concord amongst men, from which concurrence of wills and similarity of action are the natural results. Wherefore, in His divine wisdom, He ordained in His Church Unity of Faith; a virtue which is the first of those bonds which unite man to God, and whence we receive the name of the faithful - "one Lord, one faith, one baptism" (Eph. iv., 5). That is, as there is one Lord and one baptism, so should all Christians, without exception, have but one faith. And so the Apostle St. Paul not merely begs, but entreats and implores Christians to be all of the same mind, and to avoid difference of opinions: "I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms amongst you, and that you be perfect in the same mind and in the same judgment" (I Cor. i., 10). Such passages certainly need no interpreter; they speak clearly enough for themselves. Besides, all who profess Christianity allow that there can be but one faith. It is of the greatest importance and indeed of absolute necessity, as to which many are deceived, that the nature and character of this unity should be recognized. And, as We have already stated, this is not to be ascertained by conjecture, but by the certain knowledge of what was done; that is by seeking for and ascertaining what kind of unity in faith has been commanded by Jesus Christ. We know, of course, that most Catholics in public life today have maintained themselves in perfectly “good standing” within the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism despite supporting the chemical and surgical execution of the innocent preborn and despite supporting the advance of the homosexual collective, up to and including so-called “gay marriage,” under the guise of “diversity” and “tolerance.”
Here is a thumbnail definition of “diversity.” Diversity may be defined as a means to assuage the consciences of those who are living lives of unrepentant sin, whether of natural or unnatural vice, by assuring them that they are simply part of a rich “tableau” of “God’s people.” It is this “rich tableau” that Jorge Mario Bergoglio wants the conciliar “bishops” who are meeting in Rome to “smell” so as to realize what he blasphemously calls “God’s dream:”
In Jesus’ parable, he is addressing the chief priests and the elders of the people, in other words the “experts”, the managers. To them in a particular way God entrusted his “dream”, his people, for them to nurture, tend and protect from the animals of the field. This is the job of leaders: to nuture the vineyard with freedom, creativity and hard work.
But Jesus tells us that those farmers took over the vineyard. Out of greed and pride they want to do with it as they will, and so they prevent God from realizing his dream for the people he has chosen.
The temptation to greed is ever present. We encounter it also in the great prophecy of Ezekiel on the shepherds (cf. ch. 34), which Saint Augustine commented upon in one his celebrated sermons which we have just reread in the Liturgy of the Hours. Greed for money and power. And to satisfy this greed, evil pastors lay intolerable burdens on the shoulders of others, which they themselves do not lift a finger to move (cf. Mt 23:4)
We too, in the Synod of Bishops, are called to work for the Lord’s vineyard. Synod Assemblies are not meant to discuss beautiful and clever ideas, or to see who is more intelligent… They are meant to better nuture and tend the Lord’s vineyard, to help realize his dream, his loving plan for his people. In this case the Lord is asking us to care for the family, which has been from the beginning an integral part of his loving plan for humanity.
We are all sinners and can also be tempted to “take over” the vineyard, because of that greed which is always present in us human beings. God’s dream always clashes with the hypocrisy of some of his servants. We can “thwart” God’s dream if we fail to let ourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives us that wisdom which surpasses knowledge, and enables us to work generously with authentic freedom and humble creativity.
My Synod brothers, to do a good job of nurturing and tending the vineyard, our hearts and our minds must be kept in Jesus Christ by “the peace of God which passes all understanding” (Phil 4:7). In this way our thoughts and plans will correspond to God’s dream: to form a holy people who are his own and produce the fruits of the kingdom of God (cf. Mt 21:43). Bergoglio long ago cut the rug out from supposedly “pro-life” and “pro-family” Catholics in public life when he uttered five simple words, “Who am I to judge?”, in response to a question about the proven perverted behavior of “Monsignor” Battista Ricca while flying back to Rome on Monday, July 29, 2013, the Feast of Saint Martha, after the mélange of apostasy that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during World Youth Day 2013:
Speaking of other problems within the administration of the Holy See, including rumours of a ‘gay lobby’ within the Vatican, Pope Francis said there are many saintly people working in the Curia but also those who are not so saintly and cause scandals which harm the Church. Quoting from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, he said that people with homosexual tendencies must not be excluded but should be integrated into society. “If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?” he asked. Careerists in the organized crime family of the false opposite of the naturalist “right,” long desiring to distance themselves from the supposedly “divisive” “social issues” that they keep blaming for losing one election after another after nominating ciphers who stand for nothing other than what is supported by focus groups and is thus most expedient for their own career success, have latched onto Jorge’s “Who I am to judge?” slogan and his “openness” to “discussing matters of Faith and Morals that are not open for discussion (abortion, contraception, what purports to be Holy Communion for those who are divorced and civilly remarried without even the cover of a conciliar decree of nullity, perversity, “new types of families,” etc.) to jettison those “divisive” issues once and for all.
Case-in-point: the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, John Boehner (R-West Chester, Ohio):
Speaker John Boehner vowed last year that he’d back gay GOP candidates. Now, he’s making good on his word.
The Ohio Republican is heading to California this week, where he’ll raise cash for openly gay Republican candidate Carl DeMaio in defiance of several conservative groups.
Boehner’s trip to the Golden State marks the second leg of his fall tour to expand House Republicans’ 17-seat majority. The GOP’s efforts to broaden the playing field include races in blue states New York, New England and California, and support for gay candidates DeMaio and Massachusetts’s Richard Tisei.
“I’m disappointed but not terribly surprised that some extreme far right groups would rather lose elections than win elections, and have been very destructive for so many years within the Republican Party,” DeMaio said in a phone interview. “I’m glad so many people are finally realizing that and standing up to that, saying we may not agree on all issues but we agree on the vast majority of issues.”
Asked specifically whether Boehner’s help sends an important political message, DeMaio did not mention the Speaker by name: “We welcome all support from wherever it comes from. … We’re all coming together in a broad-based campaign not only to win a seat but send a national message that the Republican Party can be more inclusive and positive.”
Conservative groups including the Family Research Council and National Organization for Marriage fired off a letter last week to Boehner, National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Greg Walden (Ore.) and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) chiding them for backing DeMaio and Tisei, as well as Senate hopeful Monica Wehby (Ore.), who supports gay marriage.
“Carl DeMaio, Richard Tisei and Monica Wehby are antithetical to the Republican platform,” the conservative groups wrote. “Mr. DeMaio supports and aggressively advocates for the redefinition of marriage, and welcomed the judicial activism of the federal courts which stripped the people of California of their votes in support of maintaining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”
Last December, Boehner shot down calls for the NRCC to abandon gay GOP candidates, arguing the party needed to make better inroads with gays, women and minorities following the party’s poor showing in the 2012 election.
Through his various fundraising committees, Boehner has donated the maximum $14,000 to both DeMaio and Tisei this cycle, records show. The NRCC also is spending big in those races, pouring $2.3 million to help DeMaio in his bid to unseat freshman Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.). It’s spending another $1 million to prop up Tisei’s campaign against Democratic nominee Seth Moulton, who ousted Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.) in the primary.
“Our decisions on the Republican nominees we support will not be based on race, gender or sexual orientation, but will be based on the strength of their candidacy and their ability to defeat Democrats,” NRCC spokesman Ian Prior said.
DeMaio, 40, a former San Diego City councilor who was defeated by Democrat Bob Filner in the 2012 mayor’s race, hasn’t shied away from his sexual orientation or support for gay marriage: a campaign ad featured him and his partner, Jonathan Hale, holding hands during a San Diego LGBT parade.
The GOP’s 100-page “autopsy report,” published in the wake of the 2012 election, did not endorse gay marriage but urged the party to be more “welcoming and inclusive” of people with different viewpoints to avoid alienating young voters.
Team Boehner isn’t making DeMaio’s sexual orientation the focus of its support.
“Carl DeMaio is a reformer and a champion of fiscal responsibility,” said Cory Fritz, a spokesman for Boehner’s political operation. “He’ll be a strong voice for efficient and accountable government in our House majority.”
Boehner begins his California tour on Monday, headlining a $1,000-per-plate luncheon for former congressman Doug Ose, who’s challenging Democratic Rep. Ami Bera in California's 7th District, just east of Sacramento. Boehner will appear with Ose in Loomis at the home of Theresa and Tom Kandris, who founded a packaging manufacturing company. Lunch plus a photo with the Speaker runs $2,600, while co-hosting the event will set you back $10,000, according to a fundraiser flier.
Later, Boehner will make fundraising stops for two GOP state assemblymen: Jeff Gorrell, a Navy Reserve commander who’s taking on Democratic Rep. Julia Brownley for her seat in coastal Ventura County; and Brian Nestande, a former top aide to then-Reps. Sonny Bono and Mary Bono. Nestande is battling Democratic Rep. Raul Ruiz for his eastern Riverside County-based seat. Then on Saturday, Boehner will headline an event for DeMaio at a private residence in San Diego.
Boehner’s swing through the Golden State, where Democrats control 38 of 53 House seats and both Senate seats, follows his recent sprint through the North East, where he raked in cash for a slew of GOP candidates, including Lee Zeldin, John Katko and Elise Stefanik of New York; Marilinda Garcia and Rep. Frank Guinta of New Hampshire; and Bruce Poliquin of Maine.
Boehner tapped Stefanik, 30, to deliver the weekly GOP address on Saturday.
The Speaker's forays into traditionally Democratic strongholds comes amid a favorable political climate for the GOP. Earlier this year, the NRCC launched its “Drive to 245” campaign, which would be a net gain of 12 seats in the midterms, though party officials have acknowledged that would be a best-case scenario.
“If we are going to get to 245, that road goes through New York, the Northeast and California,” said the NRCC’s Prior. “We’re on offense, they’re on defense.”
But when it comes to gay candidates, DeMaio may be the last, best hope for the GOP, Democrats said. Openly gay Republican Dan Innis didn’t make it out of his primary in New Hampshire. And Tisei has a much harder slog against Moulton, a Marine Corps veteran who doesn’t carry the same political baggage as Tierney, the defeated congressman from the northeastern Massachusetts district.
“Republicans won’t be able to credibly say that they’re an inclusive party until they start embracing equality and stop blocking laws that would prevent discrimination based on who you love,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokeswoman Emily Bittner said.
Although Boehner hasn’t held a fundraiser for Tisei, his campaign has been pleased that socially conservative groups haven’t driven the Speaker and the NRCC out of the race.
“It’s extremely encouraging to see someone like Richard have the opportunity to present his Republican vision for the country, and that there is a place in the party for people who are pro-marriage equality,” Tisei spokesman Charlie Szold said.
“It’s encouraging that he’s able to be a change agent within the Republican Party, and hopefully within Washington.” (Boehner Rakes In Cash For Open Practitioners of Perversity.)
There is no need for anyone who is “pro-life” and “pro-life” activist within the ranks of the “big tent” to be surprised. Documentation of the sellout of careerist Republicans has been offered hundreds upon hundreds of times on this site, and a Calvinist, Chuck Baldwin, took note in early-2005 of the fact that only a relative handful of writers had dared to point out the simple truth that then President George Walker Bush was a complete “pro-life” fraud from beginning to end, (see Is The Religious Right Gullible, Naive, or Willingly Ignorant?)
Does anyone really think that the conciliar “archbishop” of Cincinnati, Dennis Schnurr, who was installed as a presbyter for the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, on July 20, 1974, is going to rebuke John Boehner for campaigning for open practitioners of the sin of Sodom?
Of course not.
The American “bishops” have long been “tolerant” of Catholics in public life who support each of the sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance, a practice that has merely echoed in North America what Jorge Mario Bergoglio himself made his very own throughout his thirty-six years of presbyteral work in Argentina prior to his “election” on March 13, 2013, as the successor to Joseph Alois Ratzinger/Benedict XVI as the universal public face of apostasy.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio has, as “Pope Francis,” made this “tolerance” a touchstone of his “Petrine Minister,” as he boasts of “smelling the scent of the people” and of being “merciful” to those who have been “victimized” by clerics who put “rules” and “doctrine” ahead of the “needs” of the “people.” Jorge’s false faith is one that founded upon accepting what the people do in their own lives as the standard by which they are to welcomed and “loved” just as they are without demanding that they quit their sins as, of course, he believes that it is not possible “to change” the people. They just have to be “loved.”
Jorge Mario Bergoglio has served as a very potent catalyst to help assure the triumph of the “gay marriage” revolution to such an extent that all pretense of believing that the “political science” and “elections” will “restore the country” must been seen for what it is, which was the whole point of what I wrote in Irreversible By Means Merely Human in the aftermath of the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States of America in the cases of Hollingsworth v. Perry and United States v. Windsor, June 26, 2013:
It is essential to remember that there is no merely natural, religiously indifferentist, socially ecumenical or "non-denominational" way to retard the spread of evil as it is those very falsehoods that has made the triumph of such moral evils as ready divorce, contraception, abortion, vital body member harvesting, euthanasia and sodomy possible, and will one day result in the social acceptance of perverse relationships with minor children and polygamy inevitable. Without the Catholic Faith, ladies and gentlemen, and the Social Reign of Christ the King, men are destined to fall into the abyss. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool (yes, a fool) for refusing to look clearly at the level of tolerance and acceptance of evil has been reached within most countries of the supposedly "civilized" Western world, including the United States of America.
We do not need to tarry too long to reiterate the simple fact that it is not the "rights of man" or "states' rights" that matter. What matters are the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural Law as they have been entrusted to and taught infallibly by the Catholic Church.
Father Denis Fahey, writing in his The Mystical Body of Christ in the Modern World, explained that we cannot be neutral in the battle between the reign of man and the Social Reign of Christ the King:
We can thus easily see that the entrance of Christianity into the world has meant two things. Primarily and principally, it has meant the constitution of a supernatural society, the Mystical Body of Christ, absolutely transcending every natural development of culture and civilisation. Secondly, it has had as result that this supernatural society, the Catholic Church, began to exercise a profound influence upon culture and civilisation and modified in a far-reaching way the existing temporal or natural social order. The indirect power of the Church over temporal affairs, whenever the interests of the divine life of souls are involved, presupposes, of course, a clear distinction of nature between the ecclesiastical authority, charged with the care of divine things, and the civil authority, whose mission is concerned with purely temporal matters. In proportion as the Mystical Body of Christ was accepted by mankind, political and economic thought and action began to respect the jurisdiction and guidance of the Catholic Church, endowed, as she is, with the right of intervention in temporal affairs whenever necessary, because of her participation in the spiritual kingship of Christ. Thus the natural or temporal common good of states came to be sought in a manner calculated to favour the development of true personality, in and through the Mystical Body of Christ, and social life came more and more under the influence of the supreme end of man, the vision of God in the three divine Persons.
Accordingly, the divine plan for order in our fallen and redeemed world comprises, primarily, the supernatural social organism of the Catholic Church, and then, secondarily, the temporal or natural social order resulting from the influence of Catholic doctrine on politics and economics and from the embodiment of that influence in social institutions. From the birth of the Catholic Church on Calvary and the solemn promulgation of her mission at the first Pentecost, the Kingdom of God in its essence has been present in the world. As a result of the gradual acceptance of the role of the Church by the temporal representatives of Christ the King, the social institutions of states and nations became deeply permeated with the influence of the supernatural life of Christ. Then, and only then, could the Kingdom of God in its integrity or the rule of Christ the King in its integrity, be said to exist. The Kingdom of God or the rule of Christ the King is present in its integrity only in so far as the whole social life of states, political and economic, is permeated with the influence of the Church. To put it in other terms, Christ fully reigns only when the programme for which He died is accepted as the one true way to peace and order in the world, and social structures in harmony with it are evolved.
The Kingdom of God in its essence is always with us, but the influence of the Church on politics and economics, in other words, the extension of the Kingdom of God in its integrity, has varied with the centuries. Broadly speaking, the thirteenth century has been, so far, the high water mark of that influence. Since then, until recently, there has been steady decay. No particular temporal social order, of course, will ever realise all that the Church is capable of giving to the world. Each of them will be defective for several reasons.
First of all, the action of the Church, welcomed by some Catholics, will be opposed by the ignorance, incapacity and perversity of others.
Secondly, even if all Catholics did accept fully, they could only reflect some of the beauty of the Gospel as the saints reflected some of the infinitely imitable holiness of Christ.
Thirdly, there would still remain the vast number of non-Catholics to be won for Christ and have their social life organised under His rule. It is towards this latter goal that every generation of Catholics is called upon to work. The aim is not, needless to say, to bring back the Middle Ages, for the river of time does not turn back in its course, but the aim is to impregnate a new epoch with the divine principles of order so firmly grasped in the thirteenth century. The result of the so-called Reformation and the French Revolution has been to obscure the rights of God proclaimed by our Lord Jesus Christ and to diffuse naturalism.
Naturalism consists in the negation of the possibility of the elevation of our nature to the supernatural life and order, or more radically still, in the negation of the very existence of that life and order. In our day owing to the progress of the anti-Christian revolt, the more radical meaning has become common. Naturalism may be defined therefore as the attitude of mind which denies the reality of the divine life of grace and of our Fall therefrom by original sin. It rejects our consequent liability to revolt against the order of the divine life, when this life has been restored to us by our membership of Christ, and maintains that all social life should be organized on the basis of that denial. We must combat that mentality and proclaim the rights of God.
In his Encyclical letter on Freemasonry, Pope Leo XIII teaches authoritatively: “From what we have already set forth, it is indisputably evident that their [the Freemasons’] ultimate aim is to uproot completely the whole religious and political order of the world, which has been brought into existence by Christianity, and to replace it by another in harmony with their way of thinking. This will mean that the foundation and the laws of the new structure of society will be drawn from pure naturalism.” Now, it is historically certain that the Declaration of the Rights of Man had been conceived and elaborated in the Masonic lodges before it was presented to the States-General of France. Accordingly, the infamous Declaration, a naturalistic or anti-supernatural document, is in reality a declaration of war on membership of Christ and on the whole structure of society based on that supernatural dignity. The same naturalistic hostility to membership of Christ and the supernatural life of grace runs through all the documents concerning human rights drawn up under the influence of the organised forces that were responsible for the Declaration of 1789. That is the real struggle going on in the world, and in it every member of Christ is called upon to play his or her part. There can be no neutrality. “He that is not with me is against me ” (St. Matthew XII, 30.) (Father Denis Fahey, The Mystical Body of Christ in the Modern World.)
In other words, it is not possible to retard social evils by naturalistic means. Evils are the only thing that result from naturalism. It is thus impossible to retard the spread of one grave social evil after another by sterile arguments based in the tortured reasoning of legal positivists in a country whose "bottom line" is the text of a written constitution, as subject to misinterpretation and/or deconstruction as Holy Writ is the hands of Protestants, Modernist Catholics and rationalists, that admits of no higher authority beyond itself. As I have been writing and lecturing for decades now, all must fall apart absent the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised by Holy Mother Church in all that pertains to the good of souls. Indeed, the Supreme Court of the United States of America decided only yesterday, Monday, October 6, 2014, the Feast of Saint Bruno, not to take cases dealing with “gay marriage” from five states, meaning that lower court decisions mandating such an abomination under cover of the the civil law will stand. Ladies and gentlemen, to quote former friends of mine from Great Neck, New York, “It’s over.” Ah, but it’s been “over” for a very long time now, say, from July 4, 1776 (see Conversion in Reverse: How the Ethos of Americanism Converted Catholics, Volume 1):
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday let stand appeals court rulings allowing same-sex marriage in five states, a major surprise that could signal the inevitability of the right of same-sex marriage nationwide.
The development cleared the way for same-sex marriages in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. Gay and lesbian couples started getting married in those states within hours.
The decision to let the appeals court rulings stand, which came without explanation in a series of brief orders, will have an enormous practical effect and may indicate a point of no return for the Supreme Court.
Most immediately, the Supreme Court’s move increased the number of states allowing same-sex marriage to 24, along with the District of Columbia, up from 19. Within weeks legal ripples from the decision could expand same-sex marriage to 30 states.

Do you think that Jorge Mario Bergoglio or the so-called “United States Catholic Conference” is going to condemn this decision to let the rulings in five appeals courts on “gay marriage” stand?
Come one, the revolutionary meeting taking place inside of the walls of the Occupied Vatican on the West Bank of the Tiber River at this time is designed to end all such debate once and for all. Those so assembled, however, must be exposed for what they are: apostates who are concerned about pleasing the “people” rather than God, oblivious to the plain truth as written by Silvio Cardinal Antoniano in the Sixteenth Century and quoted by Pope Pius XI in Divini Illius Magistri, December 31, 1929:
The more closely the temporal power of a nation aligns itself with the spiritual, and the more it fosters and promotes the latter, by so much the more it contributes to the conservation of the commonwealth. For it is the aim of the ecclesiastical authority by the use of spiritual means, to form good Christians in accordance with its own particular end and object; and in doing this it helps at the same time to form good citizens, and prepares them to meet their obligations as members of a civil society. This follows of necessity because in the City of God, the Holy Roman Catholic Church, a good citizen and an upright man are absolutely one and the same thing. How grave therefore is the error of those who separate things so closely united, and who think that they can produce good citizens by ways and methods other than those which make for the formation of good Christians. For, let human prudence say what it likes and reason as it pleases, it is impossible to produce true temporal peace and tranquillity by things repugnant or opposed to the peace and happiness of eternity. Future voters, my friends, including those produced by Catholic schools in conciliar captivity, will indeed be singing the songs of angry "modern men," and the "will of the people" tomorrow may well be something quite different than the "will of the people" now.
Alas, it is not the "will of the people" that matters. It is the law of God as He has revealed It to us through His Catholic Church, which is why all of our efforts, including those to try to conform the civil law to His eternal Law, must be must on right principles without any compromises and without any concessions to error whatsoever.
Those in the conciliar structures who are “shocked” by the events now unfolding in Rome that serve as very important catalysts in legislatures and courts around the world have to face the harsh truth that they have permitted themselves to accept heretical words and blasphemously apostate deeds as being consonant with the Catholic Faith as they have convinced themselves that the Protestant and Judeo-Masonic Novus Ordo liturgical service and the new ecclesiology and the “hermeneutic of continuity” and “religious liberty” and separation of Church and state and condemned interpretations of Sacred Scripture and episcopal collegiality and all manner of false, harmful pastoral practices have come from the spotless, immaculate Mystical Bride of Christ the King. What is unfolding at this time in inside the walls of the Occupied Vatican on the West Bank of the Tiber River is just the perfect of the inherent degeneracy of conciliarism’s false premises. Nothing more, nothing less.
We must have confidence in the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose feast we celebrate today, Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
Pope Leo XIII explained that we must find in the Rosary the sure remedy to the social ills that beset the world. His words are as true now as when they were written in 1893:
5. We deplore -- and those who judge of all things merely by the light and according to the standard of nature join with Us in deploring-that society is threatened with a serious danger in the growing contempt of those homely duties and virtues which make up the beauty of humble life. To this cause we may trace in the home, the readiness of children to withdraw themselves from the natural obligation of obedience to the parents, and their impatience of any form of treatment which is not of the indulgent and effeminate kind. In the workman, it evinces itself in a tendency to desert his trade, to shrink from toil, to become discontented with his lot, to fix his gaze on things that are above him, and to look forward with unthinking hopefulness to some future equalization of property. We may observe the same temper permeating the masses in the eagerness to exchange the life of the rural districts for the excitements and pleasures of the town. Thus the equilibrium between the classes of the community is being destroyed, everything becomes unsettled, men's minds become a prey to jealousy and heart-burnings, rights are openly trampled under foot, and, finally, the people, betrayed in their expectations, attack public order, and place themselves in conflict with those who are charged to maintain it.
6. For evils such as these let us seek a remedy in the Rosary, which consists in a fixed order of prayer combined with devout meditation on the life of Christ and His Blessed Mother. Here, if the joyful mysteries be but clearly brought home to the minds of the people, an object lesson of the chief virtues is placed before their eyes. Each one will thus be able to see for himself how easy, how abundant, how sweetly attractive are the lessons to be found therein for the leading of an honest life. Let us take our stand in front of that earthly and divine home of holiness, the House of Nazareth. How much we have to learn from the daily life which was led within its walls! What an all-perfect model of domestic society! Here we behold simplicity and purity of conduct, perfect agreement and unbroken harmony, mutual respect and love -- not of the false and fleeting kind -- but that which finds both its life and its charm in devotedness of service. Here is the patient industry which provides what is required for food and raiment; which does so "in the sweat of the brow," which is contented with little, and which seeks rather to diminish the number of its wants than to multiply the sources of its wealth. Better than all, we find there that supreme peace of mind and gladness of soul which never fail to accompany the possession of a tranquil conscience. These are precious examples of goodness, of modesty, of humility, of hard-working endurance, of kindness to others, of diligence in the small duties of daily life, and of other virtues, and once they have made their influence felt they gradually take root in the soul, and in course of time fail not to bring about a happy change of mind and conduct. Then will each one begin to feel his work to be no longer lowly and irksome, but grateful and lightsome, and clothed with a certain joyousness by his sense of duty in discharging it conscientiously. Then will gentler manners everywhere prevail; home-life will be loved and esteemed, and the relations of man with man will be loved and esteemed, and the relations of man with man will be hallowed by a larger infusion of respect and charity. And if this betterment should go forth from the individual to the family and to the communities, and thence to the people at large so that human life should be lifted up to this standard, no one will fail to feel how great and lasting indeed would be the gain which would be achieved for society.
7. A second evil, one which is specially pernicious, and one which, owing to the increasing mischief which it works among souls, we can never sufficiently deplore, is to be found in repugnance to suffering and eagerness to escape whatever is hard or painful to endure. The greater number are thus robbed of that peace and freedom of mind which remains the reward of those who do what is right undismayed by the perils or troubles to be met with in doing so. Rather do they dream of a chimeric civilization in which all that is unpleasant shall be removed, and all that is pleasant shall be supplied. By this passionate and unbridled desire of living a life of pleasure, the minds of men are weakened, and if they do not entirely succumb, they become demoralized and miserably cower and sink under the hardships of the battle of life.
8. In such a contest example is everything, and a powerful means of renewing our courage will undoubtedly be found in the Holy Rosary, if from our earliest years our minds have been trained to dwell upon the sorrowful mysteries of Our Lord's life, and to drink in their meaning by sweet and silent meditation. In them we shall learn how Christ, "the Author and Finisher of Our faith," began "to do and teach," in order that we might see written in His example all the lessons that He Himself had taught us for the bearing of our burden of labor -- and sorrow, and mark how the sufferings which were hardest to bear were those which He embraced with the greatest measure of generosity and good will. We behold Him overwhelmed with sadness, so that drops of blood ooze like sweat from His veins. We see Him bound like a malefactor, subjected to the judgment of the unrighteous, laden with insults, covered with shame, assailed with false accusations, torn with scourges, crowned with thorns, nailed to the cross, accounted unworthy to live, and condemned by the voice of the multitude as deserving of death. Here, too, we contemplate the grief of the most Holy Mother, whose soul was not merely wounded but "pierced" by the sword of sorrow, so that she might be named and become in truth "the Mother of Sorrows." Witnessing these examples of fortitude, not with sight but by faith, who is there who will not feel his heart grow warm with the desire of imitating them?
9. Then, be it that the "earth is accursed" and brings forth "thistles and thorns," -- be it that the soul is saddened with grief and the body with sickness; even so, there will be no evil which the envy of man or the rage of devils can invent, nor calamity which can fall upon the individual or the community, over which we shall not triumph by the patience of suffering. For this reason it has been truly said that "it belongs to the Christian to do and to endure great things," for he who deserves to be called a Christian must not shrink from following in the footsteps of Christ. But by this patience, We do not mean that empty stoicism in the enduring of pain which was the ideal of some of the philosophers of old, but rather do We mean that patience which is learned from the example of Him, who "having joy set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame" (Heb. xvi., 2). It is the patience which is obtained by the help of His grace; which shirks not a trial because it is painful, but which accepts it and esteems it as a gain, however hard it may be to undergo. The Catholic Church has always had, and happily still has, multitudes of men and women, in every rank and condition of life, who are glorious disciples of this teaching, and who, following faithfully in the path of Christ, suffer injury and hardship for the cause of virtue and religion. They reecho, not with their lips, but with their life, the words of St. Thomas: "Let us also go, that we may die with him" (John xi., 16).
10. May such types of admirable constancy be more and more splendidly multiplied in our midst to the weal of society and to the glory and edification of the Church of God!
11. The third evil for which a remedy is needed is one which is chiefly characteristic of the times in which we live. Men in former ages, although they loved the world, and loved it far too well, did not usually aggravate their sinful attachment to the things of earth by a contempt of the things of heaven. Even the right-thinking portion of the pagan world recognized that this life was not a home but a dwelling-place, not our destination, but a stage in the journey. But men of our day, albeit they have had the advantages of Christian instruction, pursue the false goods of this world in such wise that the thought of their true Fatherland of enduring happiness is not only set aside, but, to their shame be it said, banished and entirely erased from their memory, notwithstanding the warning of St. Paul, "We have not here a lasting city, but we seek one which is to come" (Heb. xiii., 4).
12. When We seek out the causes of this forgetfulness, We are met in the first place by the fact that many allow themselves to believe that the thought of a future life goes in some way to sap the love of our country, and thus militates against the prosperity of the commonwealth. No illusion could be more foolish or hateful. Our future hope is not of a kind which so monopolizes the minds of men as to withdraw their attention from the interests of this life. Christ commands us, it is true, to seek the Kingdom of God, and in the first place, but not in such a manner as to neglect all things else. For, the use of the goods of the present life, and the righteous enjoyment which they furnish, may serve both to strengthen virtue and to reward it. The splendor and beauty of our earthly habitation, by which human society is ennobled, may mirror the splendor and beauty of our dwelling which is above. Therein we see nothing that is not worthy of the reason of man and of the wisdom of God. For the same God who is the Author of Nature is the Author of Grace, and He willed not that one should collide or conflict with the other, but that they should act in friendly alliance, so that under the leadership of both we may the more easily arrive at that immortal happiness for which we mortal men were created.
13. But men of carnal mind, who love nothing but themselves, allow their thoughts to grovel upon things of earth until they are unable to lift them to that which is higher. For, far from using the goods of time as a help towards securing those which are eternal, they lose sight altogether of the world which is to come, and sink to the lowest depths of degradation. We may doubt if God could inflict upon man a more terrible punishment than to allow him to waste his whole life in the pursuit of earthly pleasures, and in forgetfulness of the happiness which alone lasts for ever.
14. It is from this danger that they will be happily rescued, who, in the pious practice of the Rosary, are wont, by frequent and fervent prayer, to keep before their minds the glorious mysteries. These mysteries are the means by which in the soul of a Christian a most clear light is shed upon the good things, hidden to sense, but visible to faith, "which God has prepared for those who love Him." From them we learn that death is not an annihilation which ends all things, but merely a migration and passage from life to life. By them we are taught that the path to Heaven lies open to all men, and as we behold Christ ascending thither, we recall the sweet words of His promise, "I go to prepare a place for you." By them we are reminded that a time will come when "God will wipe away every tear from our eyes," and that "neither mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow, shall be any more," and that "We shall be always with the Lord," and "like to the Lord, for we shall see Him as He is," and "drink of the torrent of His delight," as "fellow-citizens of the saints," in the blessed companionship of our glorious Queen and Mother. Dwelling upon such a prospect, our hearts are kindled with desire, and we exclaim, in the words of a great saint, "How vile grows the earth when I look up to heaven!" Then, too, shall we feel the solace of the assurance "that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation worketh for us above measure exceedingly an eternal weight of glory" (2 Cor. iv., 17).
15. Here alone we discover the true relation between time and eternity, between our life on earth and our life in heaven; and it is thus alone that are formed strong and noble characters. When such characters can be counted in large numbers, the dignity and well-being of society are assured. All that is beautiful, good, and true will flourish in the measure of its conformity to Him who is of all beauty, goodness, and truth the first Principle and the Eternal Source.
16. These considerations will explain what We have already laid down concerning the fruitful advantages which are to be derived from the use of the Rosary, and the healing power which this devotion possesses for the evils of the age and the fatal sores of society. These advantages, as we may readily conceive, will be secured in a higher and fuller measure by those who band themselves together in the sacred Confraternity of the Rosary, and who are thus more than others united by a special and brotherly bond of devotion to the Most Holy Virgin. In this Confraternity, approved by the Roman Pontiffs, and enriched by them with indulgences and privileges, they possess their own rule and government, hold their meetings at stated times, and are provided with ample means of leading a holy life and of laboring for the good of the community. They are, are so to speak, the battalions who fight the battle of Christ, armed with His Sacred Mysteries, and under the banner and guidance of the Heavenly Queen. How faithfully her intercession is exercised in response to their prayers, processions, and solemnities is written in the whole experience of the Church not less than in the splendor of the victory of Lepanto. What more is there to say?
The Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is our sure defense now as Jorge Mario Bergoglio builds a vast coalition in support of evil as the Rosary was four hundred forty-three years ago today as the Christian fleet under the command of Don John of Austria defeated the fleet of the Turkish Mohammedans. We are as outnumbered today as Don John's fleet was then. He had Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary. So do we! Why are we so afraid?
Yes, the only election that really matters is the one that took place in the Baptismal font when we were elected to be citizens of Heaven. There is only one judicial verdict that matters: that of Christ the King upon our immortal souls at the moment of our Particular Judgment.
This is our destiny, please God and by the graces that flow forth from the loving hands of His Most Blessed Mother we persevere to the points of our dying breaths in states of Sanctifying Grace.
We can be assured that our efforts to restore the Social Reign of Christ the King by means of our total consecration to Him through Mary our Immaculate Queen will help to plant a few seeds for the conversion of men and their nations to the true Faith as we, recidivist sinners that we are, attempt to make reparation for our sins and those of the whole world, remembering to say each day:
O Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary."
These are the words spoken by the Mother of God in the Cova da Iria near Fatima, Portugal, ninety-six years ago. They should be on our lips at all times so that there will come a day when the words uttered by the Cristeros in Mexico and the brave Catholics during the Spanish Revolution will be on the lips of all men and heralded on the flags of all nations:
Viva Cristo Rey!
