Yet Another Conciliar Shell Game

by Thomas A. Droleskey

A Positivist's Work is Never Done mentioned the scandal of a group, the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence," of perverted men who dressed up as nuns in Allard Hall at Most Holy Redeemer Church in San Francisco, California, to run a fund-raising event labeled as "bingo games." The most recent appearance of this blasphemous group was to have taken place on November 2, 2006. A letter-writing campaign led by some lay Catholics got that particular appearance canceled. The Archdiocese of San Francisco issued a press release following the publicizing of this event to announce its cancellation, wherein it was announced also that infamous pastor of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Father Stephen Meriwether, who is also the conciliar Chancellor of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, was being placed on "leave." Here is what I wrote in a revised version of A Positivist's Work is Never Done:

It remains to be seen whether some of the laity in leadership positions in the parish will "direct" parishioners to an alternate venue for the "performance," if not arrange that venue themselves. This is a standard modus operandi when a chancery office cancels something odious on church grounds after protests are lodged and made public. Stay tuned.

For example, a lecture by Father Richard McBrien, the notorious "theologian" from the University of Notre Dame, who remains in "good standing" as a priest in the Archdiocese of Hartford, Connecticut, was held at the Performing Arts Center in Appleton, Wisconsin, six months ago. The lecture was promoted actively by Our Lady of Lourdes Church in De Pere, Wisconsin. Telephone calls to the Diocese of Green Bay were met with the "explanation" that the event was not being sponsored by the diocese and was not being held on diocesan property. Do not be surprised if something similar happens in San Francisco with the event that had been scheduled to take place at Most Holy Redeemer Church.

What remains an enduring scandal in Archdiocese of San Francisco, however, is that Father Meriwether had enjoyed the confidence of William Levada when he was the Archbishop of San Francisco from 1995 to 2005. Furthermore, the invitation extended to the perverted group did not just "happen." That the event was scheduled at all is indicative of the underlying ethos that has been fostered within the infrastructure of the Archdiocese of San Francisco for many decades now. How many of the people who planned this event will retain their positions?

Yet another scandal is that the current Archbishop of San Francisco, George Niederauer, had praised the pro-sodomite motion picture Brokeback Mountain upon its debut earlier this year. Niederauer, a product of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, co-owns a beach house in southern California with his predecessor, another product of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the current conciliar Prefect of the Congregation for the Faith, William Cardinal Levada. Although, thankfully protesting in Sodom-by-Bay does appear to have gotten somewhere with regard to the proposed "performance" at Most Holy Redeemer Church, the Homosexual Collective is still quite active in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, especially as young people are propagandized by "programs" that undermine the innocence and purity of children and adolescents. One must recognize that conciliarism and its novelties, including that episcopal collegiality, make it impossible for believing Catholics across the contemporary ecclesiastical divides to reverse all of the ceaseless outrages against God and His Sacred Honor and Glory that are committed on a regular basis under the official auspices of the conciliar officials.

Well, we did not have to stay "tuned" for long. According to this report (Scandalous San Francisco 'Gay Pride' Pastor and Chancellor Back in Saddle after "Leave") at LifeSite - Your Life, Family and Culture Outpost featuring daily news and information not widely available in the mainstream media), Father Stephen Meriwether has returned to his duties at Most Holy Redeemer Church:

Scandalous San Francisco 'Gay Pride' Pastor and Chancellor Back in Saddle after "Leave"

By Hilary White

SAN FRANCISCO, November 17, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The pastor of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic parish in the heart of San Francisco's heavily homosexual Castro neighbourhood, is back in his position after spending some time "on leave from his duties," following a scandal involving a homosexual activist group.

Father Stephen Meriwether, who also serves as Chancellor of the San Francisco Archdiocese, was placed "on leave" after his permission to allow a virulently anti-Catholic homosexual activist group to hold "revival bingo" games was revealed by faithful Catholic bloggers.

Earlier this month, World Net Daily reported that Most Holy Redeemer parish had hosted a fundraising event for a group considered by Catholics to be one of the most offensive homosexual activist groups in existence.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a loosely organized association of gay men who dress up in bizarre mockeries of nuns' habits in homosexual parades and demonstrations, was invited to hold their "bingo games" at the parish that is a centre for homosexual activism in the local Catholic community. World Net Daily reported that a parish employee informed them that Fr. Meriwether was aware of the group's presence.

The games at Most Holy Redeemer were described in a local homosexual newspaper, the San Francisco Bay Times, who said the event included sexually explicit activities. Prizes included porn DVDs and "sex toys" the paper said.

The "Sisters," whose motto is "go and sin some more" and describes itself as a "leading-edge order of queer nuns," planned to hold regular bingo games including one that featured, as master of ceremonies, "Peaches Christ" on the Feast of All Souls, the day on which Catholics traditionally pray for their dead. The money raised by the games was to go to a number of AIDS and homosexual organizations including the parish's own AIDS outreach group.

After a local Catholic posted information about the event to the popular 'blog of Catholic apologist and writer, Mark Shea, the Archdiocese issued a statement on Oct. 30 saying that permission should not have been given and the group's activities at the parish were to cease "immediately."

Archdiocesan spokesman Maurice Healy said, "For years the group has directed contempt and ridicule at Catholic faith and practices... Fr. Meriwether is on leave from his duties."

Another Catholic blogger and former editor of the magazine Catholic World Report, was sceptical of the veracity of the Archdiocese' action.

"This is public relations damage control," Domenico Bettinelli wrote. "A true attempt to stop the scandal to the faithful and assert Church teaching would take stronger and more public steps. This sounds like they're doing just enough to take the heat off without having to do anything substantive that would annoy certain people."

The "Sisters" issued a statement saying that they were "stunned and deeply saddened" by the action of the Archdiocese in cancelling their events. "The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence believe that our commitment to giving is in alignment with the philosophy of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, which represents a cross-section of the San Francisco population," the statement said.

Bettinelli's scepticism seems to have been justified. Most Holy Redeemer parish website now carries a notice for a celebratory pancake breakfast, set for November 19, in honour of Fr. Meriwether's return from "leave."

The parish website carries a message from Fr. Meriwether saying, "You will find the good people of our parish old, young, married, gay, lesbian, transgender, affluent, homeless, blue-collar, converts, cradle Catholics, radical, traditional, questioning, fervent."

The website also includes links to various homosexual activist groups including Dignity San Francisco, the Gay Catholic Forum, the Conference of Catholic Lesbians, and the dissident anti-Catholic organization, Voice of the Faithful.

Father Meriwether was appointed to his post as archdiocesan chancellor by the former archbishop of San Francisco, William Levada. Levada is now a cardinal and serves in Rome as the head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. As such, he is considered the second most powerful man in the Catholic Church.

San Francisco Chronicle reported in 2005 that Levada once told parishioners that he enjoyed visiting Most Holy Redeemer because it was among the most welcoming in the diocese.

The website of the parish features photos of Fr. Meriwether blessing the regular parish contingent of marchers preparing to participate in the San Francisco "Gay Pride" parade. Included is a shot of Fr. Meriwether sprinkling the marchers with holy water while wearing full Mass vestments. Marchers from Most Holy Redeemer carried a banner sign and marched in the parade as a group. The photos show participants carrying the homosexual emblem of the rainbow flag and wearing t-shirts with the slogan, "Most Holy Redeemer, Pride 2006".

What is not addressed in the report above, obviously, is that William Levada enjoyed the complete confidence of Giovanni Paolo Secundo Il Grande and was chosen personally by Benedetto il Sedicesimo to replace himself as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The reporting in the story above is quite good. It is outstanding. The dots, however, continue to remain unconnected. The men who are responsible for these scandals are the conciliar popes, who have chosen fellow conciliarists to serve as the ostensible bishops of Catholic dioceses without regard for the documented reports that are sent to Rome about how these conciliar appointees countenance open dissent against the Faith on the part of their subordinates, who remain in perfectly good "canonical standing." The situation at Most Holy Redeemer Church in San Francisco is not an anomaly and it is not an ecclesiastical state secret. Indeed, the situation is very well known.

Consider Mrs. Randy Engel's review of the sordid mess at Most Holy Redeemer Church as found in her analysis of the recently adopted ":guidelines"of the United States Conference of Conciliar Catholic Bishops for "ministering" to Catholics with perverted "orientations:"

Life and Death in a “Gay” Parish – The Story of Most Holy Redeemer Church, San Francisco

Most Holy Redeemer Church lays just a few blocks from the center of San Francisco’s notorious homosexual Castro District with its strip of gay bars and porn houses. The area just across and up the street of the church where the church convent used to be is a favorite cruising ground for area “gays.” Today the parish is Catholic in name only. But this was not always the case.

The corner stone for Most Holy Redeemer Church was laid in 1900. The parish was created to serve the heavily ethnic population of Irish, Italian and German immigrants in the Eureka Valley. In time, a convent was build to accommodate the Sisters of Charity, B.V.M. who staffed the parochial school.

Today, MHR, as the congregation calls it, is a “gay” parish – the “inclusive” prototype envisioned by the drafters of the proposed USCCB Guidelines.

The parochial school has long since been closed. The building is now leased to the “pro-choice” Society of Friends (Quakers) as a private elementary school. The Sisters of Charity left in 1979 and are now “gone with the wind,” and the convent has been converted to an AIDS hospice. The Legion of Mary and Our Lady’s Sodality has disappeared.

In 2000, the church was “wreckovated” at the cost of $1 million. The pews surround a floating altar table on three sides with the tabernacle located ….. ???

Masses at MHR are highly innovative. The congregation holds hands for the Our Father and remains standing for the Consecration. The church has an excellent choir, but the highlight of the service is the kiss of peace with everyone mulling around the pews hugging and kissing everyone else. Same-sex partners opening embrace and kiss on the lips.

The census count for the September 30 - October 6, 2006 at the Saturday evening and two Sunday Masses was 312 men, mostly “gay” males; 74 women including lesbians and their partners, and 6 children. Some old-timers have remained at the parish and there is a scattering of homeless people who call the parish their own.

Because of its strategic location in relation to the Castro, MHR has always had its share of homosexual men and women in the congregation, especially following the end of the Second World War when port cities like San Francisco began to attract large numbers of homosexuals in search of anonymity and a large pool of sexual partners.

In 1981, shortly after the AIDS epidemic broke out in these same port cities, the pastor, Father Tony McGuire, formed a Gay and Lesbian Outreach Committee. Since that time, more than 18,000 AIDS deaths have been reported in San Francisco with an increase of over 1000 new cases every year.

Under Father Rev. Zachary Shore, who served as assistant pastor and pastor from 1989 to 2002, the transition from a Catholic to a “gay” parish continued. To expunge any latent harmful “homophobic” feelings, Shore underwent a moral lobotomy at a New Ways Ministry seminar. Although he admits that most of the “gays” and lesbians in his congregation are active homosexuals, he insists they are also people of faith who engage in numerous works of charity. Individual confession is available, but communal penance services (with general absolution?) attract more participation.

The current pastor, Father Steve Meriwether has been at MHR for more than four years. He has also served as Chancellor for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, both under Archbishop William Levada, who has since been elevated to cardinal and made Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and his successor and bosom buddy, Archbishop George Niederauer. Meriwether openly champions the cause of “gay” liberation. A photo is posted on the parish web site of the priest dressed in full regalia sprinkling holy water on the MHR contingent of marchers at the June 2006 “Gay Pride” Parade. Other parade snapshots include parishioners dressed in bright royal blue T-shirts with the MHR logo and marching behind a banner “Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church – your parish church in the Castro for 100 years” or riding a trolley-bus decorated with rainbow flags and multi-color balloons. Meriwether says that MHR provides “gays” with community – a place to belong. He says that the archdiocese would like to see MHR take a lower (“gay”) profile, but his pro-“gay” advocacy does not appear to have hurt his career under Levada or Niederauer.

Parish Life Revolves Around AIDS and “Gay” Needs and Causes

Parish life and parish resources at MHR are centered on AIDS and the spiritual, social and political needs and interests of its predominantly “gay” congregation.

The parish resource web-page provides links to the Vatican and the Liturgy of the Hours Apostolate, but as one scrolls down the links take on a different complexion – the Gay Catholic Forum, Dignity/San Francisco, the Conference for Catholic Lesbians, Voice of the Faithful, Pax Christi, USA, etc.

Among the pro-homosexual guest speakers, lecturers, and preachers to be invited to MHR are “gay” Dominican Fr. James Alisson, Richard Hardy author of Loving Men, Gay Partners and a popular speaker on St. John of the Cross, and Charlene Tschirhard from the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies.

MHR is a parish of “ministries” of all kinds – almost. There is the MGM “ministry” serving Midlife Gay Men support group, a New Leaf “ministry” for counseling of homosexuals, bi-sexuals and transgendered people. There are AIDS “ministries” of all kinds including a special African fund for AIDS victims. Social justice looms big at MHR, but that justice does not extend to unborn babies. Of the more than 20 bulletins selected at random from 2002 to 2006, the A-word was never mentioned. The bulletin for January 22, 2006 contains not a single reference to the annual prolife events marking the 1973 Roe Vs Wade Supreme Court decision. MHR does support World AIDS Day, and Fair Trade Awareness Month to insure that parishioners buy the politically correct brand of coffee beans.

There are occasional traditional and ethnic celebrations at MHR.

In 1991, Archbishop John R. Quinn Mass held a Forty Hours Devotion for relief from the AIDS epidemic.

MHR maintains close relations to outside homosexual organizations. In July 2006, the homosexual Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco, an affiliate of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Churches, began holding its Wednesday evening Taize services in the sanctuary of the church. An MCC-HIV support group also meets at MHR.

Sex Abuse Scandal at MHR

On March 10, 1994, the San Francisco police notified the San Francisco Archdiocese that Monsignor Patrick O’Shea, one of the city’s most politically well connected priests was under investigation for child sexual abuse. In addition to the sexual assault charges that were shortly brought against him, he also had to face charges of stealing $200,000 in church funds.

O’Shea, who had, at one time, headed the archdiocese’s Outreach program for “gays” and lesbians and also served as Director of the Propagation of the Faith, was accused of the molestation of at least eleven young boys. He was defrocked by Archbishop Quinn and spent two years in jail awaiting trial.

In 1972, while he was serving at Most Holy Redeemer, O’Shea molested two brothers, ages eleven and fourteen. He brought the two boys up to his trailer at Lake Berryessa, plied them with alcohol, forcibly restrained them and then sexually assaulted them. The archdiocese did not contest the charges. On October 13, 2005 the brothers settled for $1.3 million each. The settlement came just after the archdiocese had settled four suits filed by other victims of O’Shea for $4 million.

Even though archdiocesan officials knew that O’Shea had “a problem” with young boys, the priest had continued to be shuffled from one San Francisco parish to another where he continued to chalk up victims until his arrest in 1994. On March 29, 2002 the state Superior Court dismissed 224 molestation counts against O’Shea due to the statute of limitations, but the archdiocese continued to pay out huge settlement fees for civil case that did not go to court. As of 2005, the Archdiocese of San Francisco has settled thirty-three sex abuse suits, including those against O’Shea, for more than $43 million and the lawsuits keep rolling in.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Come to MHR

In late October 2006, all of the moral putrefaction that had been festering for years at Most Holy Redeemer came to a head with the discovery that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an organization of homosexual drag queens nationally known for their anti-Catholic and blasphemous parodies, had signed a lease with Father Meriwether for the rental of the large parish hall located under the main sanctuary of the church for charity bingo.

Actually, the first of the salacious “Revival Bingo” games operated by the “Sisters” had already taken place on the evening of September 7, 2006, in Ellard Hall. According to a “gay” reporter covering the night’s festivities, prizes for the AIDS fund-raiser included bottles of wine, porn DVDs, and an assortment of sex toys. Punishments inflicted on bingo guests for violating game rules including a rule against ringing cell phones included being forced to kissing the rear end of a “sister” and cavity searches for bare-butted leather men. The revelry continued from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The parish bulletin for the first week of Sept. 2006 did not mention the “Revival Bingo.”

Father Meriwether was out of town for the event. He had checked himself into a rehabilitation facility in Rochester, MN for depression and alcoholism on August 6 and did not return officially to MHR until his release on October 24, just in time for the second go-around.scheduled for All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2.

During Meriwether’s absence, Archbishop Niederauer had appointed Chancery official Rev. Harry G. Schlitt as a temporary administrator for MHR. Rev. Schlitt however was away in Washington, D.C. when the first bingo took place on September 7.

As Master of Ceremonies for the November 2 games, the “Sisters” selected Peaches Christ, a well-known drag queen freaknick notorious for his Midnight Mass film series. Peaches claims to be a descendant of Jesus Christ.

Scheduled to make a special appearance at the November bingo were the finalists for the annual “Bare Chest Men” contest. Seven of the contestants will be putting themselves up for auction at the Eagle Tavern leather bar’s dinner/date party to be held on November 12, 2006. To date, more than 40 former “Bare Chest” men have succumbed to AIDS.

Fortunately, the November 2 event never took place. News concerning the “Sister” bingo games was posted on Mark Shea’s weblog, e-mails and calls from irate Catholics flooded the Chancery. On October 31, the “Sisters” were informed by the archdiocese that their lease was canceled. Archbishop Niederauer put Fr. Meriwether “on leave.” A spokesman for the archdiocese stated that the archbishop was not aware that the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” were leasing MHR’s parish hall and that the entire incident was a most regrettable affair.

Indeed it was. But it was only one of many in a long litany of travesties against the Faith and against Catholic morals that have been permitted at Most Holy Redeemer Church by the Archdiocese of San Francisco for over two decades.

Once again, Mrs. Engel, whose well-documented The Rite of Sodomy is still being stonewalled by the American bishops, has documented the rot at a conciliar parish, which is precisely the point I want to emphasize at this juncture and why I have seen fit to comment on a subject once again that I had said in Dry Rot to the Core would not be fodder for a future article on this site. It is conciliarism that has produced this rot. Sure, yes, the infestation began long ago in the years predating the Second Vatican Council. Fine. No one can claim with a straight face that the sort of scandals that have taken place at Most Holy Redeemer Church--and equally perverted venues throughout the conciliar structures, especially in universities and colleges-- took place before the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council on December 8, 1965.

None of this was out in the open prior to the postconciliar period. None of this public display of perversity would have been thinkable even to the most personally, privately perverted bishop before the advent of conciliarism. Not even Paul VI, who was himself inclined in this perversion, could have thought such things possible. Alas, it is precisely conciliarism, especially through the novelty of episcopal collegiality, and Paul VI's own proclivity to appoint men who shared his own perverted proclivities that made it possible for these scandals to arise and to continue without any real damage being done to the cardinals and archbishops and bishops and priests who have permitted them to go on for so long.

What has happened in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, therefore, is just another proof of the fact that conciliarism is bereft of the sensus Catholicus, that souls are permitted to wallow in the celebration of sins that cry out to Heaven for vengeance as their pastors bless with Holy Water before they participate in a parade that pridefully exalts their commitment to depravity. One wonders if Father Meriwether would have been restored to his duties from a "leave of absence" if he had offered the Immemorial Mass of Tradition at Most Holy Redeemer Church without "permission" from either William Levada, who steadfastly refused to grant "permission" for an "indult" Mass in the ten years of his serving as the conciliar archbishop of San Francisco, or George Niederauer.

Well, really, we do not have to wonder. Just go ask Father Stephen P. Zigrang what happens when you offer the Mass of our fathers without "permission." A priest is threatened with suspension, urged to get counseling and told to take a sixty day leave. Support perversity to the hilt? Keep your job as a pastor and as the chancellor of a major metropolitan archdiocese. Offer the Immemorial Mass of Tradition? Get threatened with suspension and face the prospect of psychiatric treatment. This simply cannot come from the Catholic Church. This is unprecedented in the history of the Catholic Church, which has seen her fair share of scandals over the centuries, but never anything this brazen in open support of a grave disorder that destroys both bodies and souls. Is there any more proof necessary to show that no protest in this world is going to "reform" men who are at war with God Himself? Is there any more proof necessary to demonstrate how we must flee from everything to do with conciliarism and its counterfeit religion?

Father Stephen Meriwether does not believe that his parishioners who are inclined in the direction of perversity need to reform their lives. They are to be "loved," not changed, thereby substituting empty sentimentality for authentic love, which wills the salvation of others, something that is indeed impeded, not advanced, when we reaffirm them in their unrepentant Mortal Sins. The only ones these days who are in need of "conversion" in the eyes of conciliarists are those traditional Catholics, both sedevacantists and non-sedevacantists, who reject the Second Vatican Council and its erroneous novelties, starting with ecumenism and religious liberty and the very nature of the Divine Constitution of the Catholic Church and the Novus Ordo Missae, and who keep themselves and their families away from conciliarism en toto. These are the only people in need of conversion, not sinners who celebrate their sins publicly and in Catholic settings.

Father Meriwether and those who have enabled him over the years, including John Quinn and William Levada and George Niederauer, among others, would probably scoff at these words found in the Very Reverend Andre Prevot's Love, Peace and Joy: Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus according to St. Getrude:

Jesus showed Gertrude in an especial manner how much the Divine Heart desires the conversion of sinners. One day, as the Saint was praying for some miscreants who had caused great harm to her monastery, Our Lord appeared to her. His arm was painfully bent and distorted, and the sinews appeared quite broken. He said to her: "Those who pray for the conversion of these unfortunate men pour a soothing balm upon My suffering arm, and with a delicate hand bring back little by little the muscles to their proper place." Surprised at such an excess of goodness, Gertrude said to Jesus: "Most sweet Lord, how can you call such men your arm, unworthy as they are of such an honour?" "I call them so in truth, because they are members of the body of that Church of which I glory to be the Head. Therefore, the state of their souls causes Me unspeakable anxiety. My Heart has an intense desire for their conversion."

No one but an abject fool or one whose soul is possessed by the devil himself can refuse to be moved by such words into reforming his life once and for all in cooperation with the graces won for us by the shedding of every single drop of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood that flow into our souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, the Mediatrix of All Graces. Oh, yes. Sure. For the likes of Father Meriwether, the people in need of "conversion" are those who "sin" against sodomites and lesbians by refusing to "accept" them for "who they are," refusing to "love" them as "God made them to be." This is but another perversion that comes from the devil and leads souls into Hell for all eternity.

We must be moved, therefore, to reform our own lives, to make reparation for our own sins by offering our prayers and penances and sufferings and humiliations and daily mortifications to the Blessed Trinity through Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart so that we can pray more purely and more resolutely for the conversion of all other sinners, especially those who are steeped in unrepentant Mortal Sins and could face the prospect of eternal Hellfire if they are not converted before they die. We must see occasions such as the scandal of the reinstatement of Father Stephen Meriwether and the scandals at Most Holy Redeemer Church over the years for which he bears direct personal responsibility as invitations from Our Lord to intensify our prayers for the conversion of those trapped in the ethos of conciliarism.

Our Lord really meant it when He said in the Sermon on the Mount:

And whosoever will force thee one mile, go with him other two, Give to him that asketh of thee and from him that would borrow of thee turn not away. You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.

For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this? And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this? Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect. (Mt. 5: 41-48)

Although a consecrated slave of Our Lady's Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart cannot "direct" the fruit of his prayers, entrusting all to be used by Our Lady as she sees fit, let us resolve right now, yes, at this moment, to offer a Rosary for the intention of converting sinners, placing all of our trust and hope in the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary that suffered as one with the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus to redeem us, to make it possible for us to rise out of our own sins and to scale the heights of sanctity so that we might aspire to have the highest place in Heaven next to her, the Queen of Heaven and earth, the Queen of All Saints and Angels.

The Longer Version of the Saint Michael the Archangel Prayer, composed by Pope Leo XIII, 1888

O glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil.  Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.  Fight this day the battle of our Lord, together with  the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven.  That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels.  Behold this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage.  Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the Name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay, and cast into eternal perdition, souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.  That wicked dragon pours out. as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.  These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on Her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck the sheep may be scattered.  Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory.  They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.  Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.  Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.  Amen.

Verse: Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.

Response: The Lion of the Tribe of Juda has conquered the root of David.

Verse: Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.

Response: As we have hoped in Thee.

Verse: O Lord hear my prayer.

Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Verse: Let us pray.  O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as suppliants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin, immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of our souls.

Response:  Amen.
