What Commandments?

Part One

by Thomas A. Droleskey

As has been noted constantly on this site (and in my writing for over a decade before this site was launched), we are witnessing the logical decay that must exist in a world that denies the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised the Catholic Church that He Himself founded upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope. Men and their nations must descend into madness when they are not guided by the Deposit of Faith that Our Lord entrusted exclusively to His Catholic Church for Its eternal safekeeping and infallible explication.

We have seen this the spiral of this logical decay accelerate in the past forty years as more and more Catholics around the world have been deprived of access to true Sacraments and as the conciliar revolution has produced, admitting pockets of resistance in various places in the conciliar structures, at least two entire generations of Catholics who know nothing about the Faith and who have have grown up to become barbarians, some of whom, both men and women, parade about immodestly, speak indecently and are utterly shameless in the mutilation of their bodies by means of tattoos and body piercing. This descent into the abyss was prophesied by Pope Gregory XVI in Mirari Vos, August 15, 1832:

This shameful font of indifferentism gives rise to that absurd and erroneous proposition which claims that liberty of conscience must be maintained for everyone. It spreads ruin in sacred and civil affairs, though some repeat over and over again with the greatest impudence that some advantage accrues to religion from it. "But the death of the soul is worse than freedom of error," as Augustine was wont to say. When all restraints are removed by which men are kept on the narrow path of truth, their nature, which is already inclined to evil, propels them to ruin. Then truly "the bottomless pit" is open from which John saw smoke ascending which obscured the sun, and out of which locusts flew forth to devastate the earth. Thence comes transformation of minds, corruption of youths, contempt of sacred things and holy laws -- in other words, a pestilence more deadly to the state than any other. Experience shows, even from earliest times, that cities renowned for wealth, dominion, and glory perished as a result of this single evil, namely immoderate freedom of opinion, license of free speech, and desire for novelty.

Here We must include that harmful and never sufficiently denounced freedom to publish any writings whatever and disseminate them to the people, which some dare to demand and promote with so great a clamor. We are horrified to see what monstrous doctrines and prodigious errors are disseminated far and wide in countless books, pamphlets, and other writings which, though small in weight, are very great in malice. We are in tears at the abuse which proceeds from them over the face of the earth. Some are so carried away that they contentiously assert that the flock of errors arising from them is sufficiently compensated by the publication of some book which defends religion and truth. Every law condemns deliberately doing evil simply because there is some hope that good may result. Is there any sane man who would say poison ought to be distributed, sold publicly, stored, and even drunk because some antidote is available and those who use it may be snatched from death again and again?

The licentiousness that is abroad in our land at the present time is stupefying to behold. As mentioned in Revolutions Have Consequences, part two, two days ago now, the contemporary spirit of licentiousness has, courtesy of the ethos wrought by conciliarism and enshrined in the Protestant and Masonic Novus Ordo service (or, should I write "ordinary form of the 'one' Roman Rite"?), infected the lives of many traditionally-minded Catholics all up and down and from one side to the other of vast expanse of the ecclesiastical divide that is itself a rotten fruit of the conciliar revolutions. Many traditionally-minded parents who go to chapels where the clergy make no concessions to conciliarism or its false "popes" encourage their children to listen to "rock" music and wear immodest attire and to participate actively in our culture that is so filled with grave spiritual perils unto the possible loss of our own immortal souls.

The situation is so bad that many younger Catholics, those in the teens and twenties and thirties, who have been deformed in the conciliar structures cannot even recite the Ten Commandments, no less know what they mean and that their precepts have been entrusted to the true Church, the Catholic Church (and not to any Protestant or adherent of Talmudic Judaism or committed naturalist of the false opposite of the "left" or the "right"), for their eternal safekeeping and infallible explication. The Ten Commandments as entrusted to and taught by Holy Mother Church. Many Catholics in the conciliar structures, are putting the barbarians of yore to shame. To quote a true priest who gave a conciliar-controlled parish in 1991, "Please, I will take a good, upright pagan. We're being overrun by barbarians right now." It is unfortunately the case that this true priest does not realize that ethos of conciliarism that arises from and has made its "reconciliation" with the false, naturalistic, anti-Incarnational and semi-Pelagian principles of Modernity has helped to produce these new barbarians.

Our feckless statist leaders, however, are far, far removed from any semblance of even the conciliar corruption of Catholicism. They have been immersed in raw barbarism from the time of their infancies. Caesar Barackus Obamus Ignoramus was raised by an atheist, Stanley Ann Dunham Obama Soetoro, who was "married" first to a polygamist named Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a a man who abandoned the false, blasphemous religion of Mohammedanism for atheism. Our reigning caesar's step-father was Lolo Soetoro, a Mohammedan man who became "a free thinker" over the years and left the practice of Mohammedanism altogether. One of the most influential figures in his life was a professed Communist, Frank Marshall Davis, whose profound influence on Obama's thought processes, such as they are, were airbrushed in his first work of literary fiction, his "autobiography" entitledDreams From My Father (Obama's Communist Mentor).

As is the case with all men who believe in their false naturalistic ideologies with religious fervor and who view the civil state and its tentacles of power as the true "secular church," if you will, from which there is no escape, a "true secular church" that is able to control those within its grasp, which means, of course, every single one of us. To accomplish this goal, our own would-be Hugo Chavez, Caesar Barackus Obamus Ignoramus, must seek to portray himself, as the champion of the downtrodden as he divides one segment of the country against another with his Saul Alinsky tactics of "identify the enemy," yes, even if the "enemy" is purely imaginary, and "isolate" him. Even two committed members of the organized crime family of naturalism known as the Democratic Party have condemned the reigning caesar's divisive tactics (see Obama's Divisiveness is Hurting the Country).

Caesar Barackus Obamus Ignoramus is, of course, a committed socialist, which means that he believe that the that confiscatory taxing power of the Federal government of the United States of America can be used to enslave the masses and to ensure that the average citizen has less financial wherewithal to pay his own expenses and thus to depend more and more upon the civil state for various alleged "benefits" and as he is subjected to a variety of regulations designed to control, if not monitor, his daily life. The very same people who live licentiously and who promote and protect various evils, including chemical and surgical baby-killing, under cover of the civil law are the ones who pervert the just use of the civil authority to implement draconian policies (the "Patriot Act," whose Orwellian tentacles are being extended Caesar Barackus Obamus Ignoramus to such an extent that even one of his chief supporters, the editorial writers of The New York Times, find objectionable (see Breaking a Promise on Surveillance).

The column below, written by self-professed libertarian John Stossel, identifies some of the manifestations of this statist phenomenon without identifying the underlying proximate cause, which, as readers of this site know, is that the rise of statism is the only logical end result of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King wrought by the Protestant Revolt and institutionalized by the forces of Judeo-Masonry and the naturalistic organizations and ideologies and pseudo-philosophies spawned thereby.

A false, overarching, omnipotent, transnational secular "church" must arise over the course of time to squash out all remnants of true human liberty that can be exercised only in accord with the binding precepts of the Divine Positive Law and the Natural as they have been entrusted to the Catholic Church and only in cooperation with the Sanctifying Graces that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ won for us on the wood of the Holy Cross and that flow into the hearts and souls of men through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces. The true secular "church" that we are facing that this time is the result of the overthrow of Catholicism, which alone is the means of personal salvation and thus of providing a true social order based on the pursuit of the common temporal good in light of the pursuit of man's Last End, the possession of the glory of the Beatific Vision of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost for all eternity. This is something that John Stossel, who documents the symptoms well enough, does not understand at all:

Something's happened to America, and it isn't good. It's become easier to get into trouble. We've become a nation of a million rules. Not the kind of bottom-up rules that people generate through voluntary associations. Those are fine. I mean imposed, top-down rules formed in the brains of meddling bureaucrats who think they know better than we how to manage our lives.

Cross them, and we are in trouble.

The National Marine Fishery Service (NMFS) received an anonymous fax that a seafood shipment to Alabama from David McNab contained "undersized lobster tails" and was improperly packed in clear plastic bags, rather than the cardboard boxes allegedly required under Honduran law. When the $4 million shipment arrived, NMFS agents seized it. McNab served eight years in prison, even though the Honduran government informed the court that the regulation requiring cardboard boxes had been repealed.

How about this one? Four kindergartners -- yes, 5-year-old boys -- played cops and robbers at Wilson Elementary in New Jersey. One yelled: "Boom! I have a bazooka, and I want to shoot you." He did not, of course, have a bazooka. Nevertheless, all four boys were suspended from school for three days for "making threats," a violation of their school district's zero-tolerance policy. School Principal Georgia Baumann said, "We cannot take any of these statements in a light manner." District Superintendent William Bauer said: "This is a no-tolerance policy. We're very firm on weapons and threats."

Give me a break.

Here's another: Ansche Hedgepeth, 12, committed this heinous crime: She left school in Washington, D.C., entered a Metrorail station to head home and ate a French fry. An undercover officer arrested her, confiscating her jacket, backpack and shoelaces. She was handcuffed and taken to the Juvenile Processing Center. Only after three hours in custody was the 12-year-old released into her mother's custody. The chief of Metro Transit Police said: "We really do believe in zero-tolerance. Anyone taken into custody has to be handcuffed for officer safety." She was sentenced to community service and now carries an arrest record. Washington's Metro has since rescinded its zero-tolerance policy.

Keith John Sampson, a student-employee at Indiana-Purdue University Indianapolis, had the temerity to read "Notre Dame Versus the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan" during breaks on the job. One student complained because the book's cover depicted the Klan. The university then found Sampson guilty of racial harassment! Thankfully, a great organization, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), came to his defense and got his school record cleared.

Palo Alto, Calif., ordered Kay Leibrand, a grandmother, to lower her carefully trimmed hedges. Leibrand argued that no one's vision was obstructed and asked the code officer to take a look. He refused. Then the city dispatched two police officers. They arrested her, loaded her into a patrol car in front of her neighbors and hauled her down to the station.

In 2001, honor student Lindsay Brown parked her car in the wrong spot at her high school. A county police officer looked inside and saw a kitchen knife -- a butter knife with a rounded tip. Because Lindsay was on school property, she had violated the zero-tolerance policy for knives. She was arrested, handcuffed and hauled off to county jail where she spent nine hours on a felony weapons possession charge. School Principal Fred Bode told a local paper, "A weapon is a weapon."

Congress creates, on average, one new crime every week. Federal agencies create thousands more -- so many, in fact that the Congressional Research Service itself said that merely counting them would be impossible.

This is a bad trend. As Lao Tsu said, "The more laws and order are made prominent, the more thieves and robbers there will be." (We've Become a Nation of a Million Rules;  for another absurd example of the fascists of the nanny state in action, please see Raw-Food Raid Highlights A Hunger. Guns drawn to raid a store that sells raw milk? Guns drawn?)

Actually, something has not "happened" to this country as many of the men who laid its foundations in the Seventeenth Century in some of the English colonies up and down the Eastern seaboard of what became the United States of America were committed Calvinists who believed that a variety of civil laws had to be imposed upon the people in order to "control" them and to penalize them for violating the "good order" required by the false Calvinist concept of "citizenship" and the false "gospel of prosperity" that constitute important building blocks in the heresy of Americanism. Although I used some excerpts from You Can't Eat Peanuts in Church and Other Little-Known Laws as found online in a previous article, let me quote some other examples from the book, which I have purchased for you, my few but very loyal readers, itself to demonstrate that regulation of our daily behavior is really nothing new. It is part and parcel of the false ethos of Americanism that must devolve into statism over the course of time:

Hunting elk on Main Street in Ouray, California, is prohibited by law.

An early-twentieth-century law passed in Meridian, Mississippi, forbids businessmen to beat drums during a lunchtime stroll.

Lest little boys of Ashland, Wisconsin, grow up to be gamblers, law has been enacted making it illegal to play marbles for keeps.

In Star, Mississippi, it is a punishable offense to ridicule public architecture.

A federal law prohibits women from tagging along with American troops as laundresses.

To take a bath in Boston, you must have a doctor's written prescription.

It is illegal to own both a cat and a bird in Reed City, Michigan.

A Louisiana law upholds your right to grow as tall as you like.

Spitting against the wind in Sault Sainte marie, Michigan, is unlawful.

Federal law maintains that no living person can be portrayed on United States paper currency.

In South Dakota, an eighty-year-old woman cannot stop on the street to talk to a young married man.

Barbers in Hawaii are not permitted to lather the chins of their customers with a shaving brush.

In Wyoming, it is illegal to take a picture of a rabbit during January, February, March, or April--unless you have a license.

It is illegal walk through the streets of Maine with your shoelaces undone.

Public checker-playing is against the law in La Cross, Wisconsin.

Prisoners in Charleston, South Carolina, were once charged a dollar fare for the ride to jail.

In St. Louis Missouri, it is illegal to let rubbish collect on your roof.

Singing out of tune in North Carolina is illegal.

In Whitehall, Montana, it is unlawful to drive a truck or car with ice picks fitted to the wheels.

In Naptoma, Kansas, it is illegal to practice knife-throwing at someone wearing a striped suit.

It was once illegal in Boston, Massachusetts, to own a dog more than ten inches high.

In Kentucky, a man may not marry his wife's grandmother.

In Hammond, Indiana, it is illegal to throw watermelon seeds on the sidewalk.

During bank holidays in Michigan, the size of wheatcakes is regulated by law/

It is unlawful to ride a tricycle on the sidewalk in Moscow, Idaho.

The Wisconsin legislature passed a law ordering that with each meal sold in the state for twenty-five cents or more, a minimum of two thirds of an ounce of cheese must be served.

In Ziegler, Illinois, a law provides that the first four firemen tho show up at a fire will be paid for their services.

A New York judge ruled that if two women behind you in a movie house are discussing the probably outcome of a film, you can give them a Bronx cheer.

A hotel owner in Boston, Massachusetts, is required by law to put up and bed down a guest's house.

You can attach a horn to your bicycle in New Mexico only if it produces a harmonious sound.

It is unlawful to drink water or milk on a train in North Carolina.

According to an old law of Truro, Massachusetts, a young man could not get married until he had killed either six blackbirds or three crows. (Barbara Seuling, You Can't Eat Peanuts in Church and Little-Known Laws; Dolphin Books, Doubleday and Company, 1976; excerpts found on pp. 13-27, inclusive.)

Even some of the laws cited in the above-cited book that required women to dress modestly would be unnecessary in a truly Catholic country whose citizens were informed by the teaching of Holy Mother Church as women would be possessed of the virtue of modesty and would want to comport themselves, at least for the most part, as befits the dignity of their femininity which is meant to be a reflect of the perfect femininity and dignity of the fairest flower of our race, Our Lady herself.

What Mr. Stossel does not recognize or understand is that this nation's Protestant-Judeo-Masonic roots produced a recrudescence of the spirit contained in the six hundred thirteen precepts of the Mosaic Law that were used by the Most Blessed Trinity to keep His Chosen People in line prior to the Redemptive Act of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on the wood of the Holy Cross on Good Friday that ratified the New and Eternal Testament that He had instituted at the Last Supper the night before. What is happening at the present time is the nationalization, if you will, of the spirit of Calvinism that has taken deep root in this nation's soil and that, emptied of its false theological content, has become a major influence in the rise of the fascistic, all-controlling spirit of socialism. Such is the fate of all men and all nations who reject the Holy Faith as they must degenerate over the course of time into such a state of lawlessness and disorder that the "state" is seen as the ultimate answer to all personal and social problems as the masses are diverted with bread and circuses and taught to accept slogans in the place of rational thought and the true Faith.

Although I have quoted this excerpt from Pope Leo XIII's Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900, many times before, let me do so again to emphasize that men and their nations must descend to the level of state-sponsored crimes when Catholicism does not prevail in the hearts and souls of men and when true Church, founded by Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ upon the Rock of Peter, the Pope, is unable to exercise the Social Reign of Christ King as the civil state refuses to accord her the favor and protection of the public patronage:

From this it may clearly be seen what consequences are to be expected from that false pride which, rejecting our Saviour's Kingship, places man at the summit of all things and declares that human nature must rule supreme. And yet, this supreme rule can neither be attained nor even defined. The rule of Jesus Christ derives its form and its power from Divine Love: a holy and orderly charity is both its foundation and its crown. Its necessary consequences are the strict fulfilment of duty, respect of mutual rights, the estimation of the things of heaven above those of earth, the preference of the love of God to all things. But this supremacy of man, which openly rejects Christ, or at least ignores Him, is entirely founded upon selfishness, knowing neither charity nor selfdevotion. Man may indeed be king, through Jesus Christ: but only on condition that he first of all obey God, and diligently seek his rule of life in God's law. By the law of Christ we mean not only the natural precepts of morality and the Ancient Law, all of which Jesus Christ has perfected and crowned by His declaration, explanation and sanction; but also the rest of His doctrine and His own peculiar institutions. Of these the chief is His Church. Indeed whatsoever things Christ has instituted are most fully contained in His Church. Moreover, He willed to perpetuate the office assigned to Him by His Father by means of the ministry of the Church so gloriously founded by Himself. On the one hand He confided to her all the means of men's salvation, on the other He most solemnly commanded men to be subject to her and to obey her diligently, and to follow her even as Himself: "He that heareth you, heareth Me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth Me" (Luke x, 16). Wherefore the law of Christ must be sought in the Church. Christ is man's "Way"; the Church also is his "Way"-Christ of Himself and by His very nature, the Church by His commission and the communication of His power. Hence all who would find salvation apart from the Church, are led astray and strive in vain.

As with individuals, so with nations. These, too, must necessarily tend to ruin if they go astray from "The Way." The Son of God, the Creator and Redeemer of mankind, is King and Lord of the earth, and holds supreme dominion over men, both individually and collectively. "And He gave Him power, and glory, and a kingdom: and all peoples, tribes, and tongues shall serve Him" (Daniel vii., 14). "I am appointed King by Him . . . I will give Thee the Gentiles for Thy inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession" (Psalm ii., 6, 8). Therefore the law of Christ ought to prevail in human society and be the guide and teacher of public as well as of private life. Since this is so by divine decree, and no man may with impunity contravene it, it is an evil thing for the common weal wherever Christianity does not hold the place that belongs to it. When Jesus Christ is absent, human reason fails, being bereft of its chief protection and light, and the very end is lost sight of, for which, under God's providence, human society has been built up. This end is the obtaining by the members of society of natural good through the aid of civil unity, though always in harmony with the perfect and eternal good which is above nature. But when men's minds are clouded, both rulers and ruled go astray, for they have no safe line to follow nor end to aim at. . . .

This generative and conservative power of the virtues that make for salvation is therefore lost, whenever morality is dissociated from divine faith. A system of morality based exclusively on human reason robs man of his highest dignity and lowers him from the supernatural to the merely natural life. Not but that man is able by the right use of reason to know and to obey certain principles of the natural law. But though he should know them all and keep them inviolate through life-and even this is impossible without the aid of the grace of our Redeemer-still it is vain for anyone without faith to promise himself eternal salvation. "If anyone abide not in Me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire, and he burneth" john xv., 6). "He that believeth not shall be condemned" (Mark xvi., 16). We have but too much evidence of the value and result of a morality divorced from divine faith. How is it that, in spite of all the zeal for the welfare of the masses, nations are in such straits and even distress, and that the evil is daily on the increase? We are told that society is quite able to help itself; that it can flourish without the assistance of Christianity, and attain its end by its own unaided efforts. Public administrators prefer a purely secular system of government. All traces of the religion of our forefathers are daily disappearing from political life and administration. What blindness! Once the idea of the authority of God as the Judge of right and wrong is forgotten, law must necessarily lose its primary authority and justice must perish: and these are the two most powerful and most necessary bonds of society. Similarly, once the hope and expectation of eternal happiness is taken away, temporal goods will be greedily sought after. Every man will strive to secure the largest share for himself. Hence arise envy, jealousy, hatred. The consequences are conspiracy, anarchy, nihilism. There is neither peace abroad nor security at home. Public life is stained with crime. (Pope Leo XIII, Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus, November 1, 1900.)

Although I am tired and have been occupied this week with all kinds of medical examinations and procedures, I will indeed attempt to repeat the truths of Catholic Social Teaching until I am entire unable to do so, please God and by means of the intercessory power of His Most Blessed Mother that that day is still many, many years away. No matter the reduced number of articles that will appear on this site in the future, however, I will continue to defend the Social Reign of Christ the King and of Mary our Immaculate Queen for as long as Our Lady sends me the graces won for us by her Divine Son to do so.

Remember this is the sixth Saturday in Bishop Robert Fidelis McKenna's Rosary Crusade. We meditate today on the First Sorrowful Mystery of Our Lady's Most Holy Rosary, the Agony of Our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane, focusing on resignation to God's Holy Will. Amen!

My "shelf" life has expired for this session of writing. I will have part two of this article post in a few days, God willing and Our Lady interceding.
