Nanny State, U.S.A.

by Thomas A. Droleskey

The late Father John Joseph Sullivan (Jackie Boy) gave a lot of good, solid, thoroughly Catholic pastoral advice in the dogmatic theology classes that he taught at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut, when I was taking courses there in the 1983-1984 academic year (and teaching in a graduate course every Saturday at Saint John's University, Jamaica, Queens, New York). One of the things that he insisted upon for men who were studying to be priests (or what we thought was the priesthood in the structures of the counterfeit church of conciliarism) was that it was always important to avoid sinning per excessum or per defectum, that is, to avoid sinning by excess or defect. "Saint Thomas Aquinas taught us in the Summa," Father John Sullivan would say in his Connecticut Yankee (and he was a Mets' fan, by the way) nasal twang, "to seek the via media, the middle way, the middle path."

That is, it is possible to sin by being too rigorous and it is possible to sin by being too lax. Moderation and balance are important in the care of the interior life of the soul, admitting that there have been many saints who pursued very rigorous lives of prayer and fasting, being directed to so by God Himself in some instances or under obedience to a spiritual director. Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, for example, was ordered by her spiritual director, Father Konrad von Marburg, to undertake penances that were considered harsh and excessive even at that time. Saint Elizabeth humbly obeyed, probably shortening her physical life on earth in the process. And we know that Saint Francis of Assisi, who had once led a carefree life of partying and gaiety as he lived off of the proceeds of his father's business, was noted for the many penances he imposed upon himself (in addition to those that were visited upon him by others and the circumstances in which he lived).

In the main, however, we are called to seek the via media, using the example of the saints to inspire us, who are prone to indolence and self-excuse, out of our lethargy and self-satisfaction into denying ourselves some of the pleasures of this passing world that might, if made with the proper motivations and interior dispositions of the soul and offered to God through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, help to root out some of our venial vices and failings and incline us the more to seek after spiritual perfection and thus the things of Heaven with greater love, fervor, devotion and perseverance.

The little penance that most of us do is pitiable in comparison to that of the saints, inconsequential in comparison to that which we need to do to make reparation for our sins and those of the whole world, especially those sins of others that might have been committed because of our bad example or because of our sins of omission, that is, our failure to perform the Spiritual or Corporal Works of Mercy for those whom God's Holy Providence has placed in our lives at one time or another. Many of us are so very content to wallow in conditions of spiritual lukewarmness, and we know what Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ had to say about the lukewarm:

But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth  (Apocalypse 3: 16)

There is no "quick fix" to growth in the interior life of the soul. God does want us, however, to make progress in the interior life of the soul by assisting more regularly at true offerings of Holy Mass, if this is at all possible given the state of apostasy in which we find ourselves and given the obligations of one's state in life, and to pray at least one set of mysteries of His Most Blessed Mother's Most Holy Rosary every day, making sure to accuse ourselves on a weekly basis in the Sacred Tribunal of Penance as we seek to die to self more fully and to recognize that every cross that is sent to us has been fashioned by His very hand from all eternity for His greater honor and glory and for our sanctification through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

It may take a lifetime of struggle to advance beyond the purgative stage of the interior life to know a bit of the joy of the illuminative stage. What matters, of course, is that we keep up the effort, that we never give up and say that the task of growing in the virtue and thus sanctity is impossibly "hard" or that we surrender to indolence and say with Martin Luther himself that we should "sin, and sin boldly" as God has "forgiven" us already. We just keep up the effort in cooperation with the graces won for us on the wood of the Holy Cross by the shedding of every single drop of the Most Precious Blood of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that flow into our souls through the loving hands of Our Lady, she who is the Mediatrix of All Graces as we maintain a vigilance within our souls, careful to avoid the rigorism of the Jansenists or the laxity of the Protestants and their compatriots in the One World Ecumenical Church of conciliarism.

Similarly, the binding precepts of the Fifth Commandment require us to be vigilant in the care of the body, which is the dwelling place of the soul, which is, of course, the very life-giving principle of the body. The maintenance of one's physical existence is not our raison d'etre as a Catholic understands that, to quote Saint Paul the Apostle, we "have not here a lasting city, but we seek one that is to come" (Hebrews 13: 14). We might be required to lay down our lives in defense of the Holy Faith or in defense of our family members (or some other innocent human beings who may be in need of our efforts to defend their physical lives) or in defense of our own country in the prosecution of a just war or the defense of our borders. It is still nevertheless necessary, however, to take moderate, prudent measures to maintain bodily health, ever mindful of the truth that God will keep us alive for only as long as He wills and that He could take us in an vehicular accident or in the midst of a natural disaster or storm when we least expect to die.

Indeed, the widow of a former teacher of mine from Oyster Bay High School, who died at the age of forty-three on February 6, 1981, when serving as a volunteer fireman in Great Neck, New York, after suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage, said to me on the night of her husband's burial: "Bob had a little black book that contained all of the times and dates of his meetings. What we tend to forget is that God has a black book of his own. He's got your name and a date next to it. And He doesn't care who you are or what you are doing. He is going to call you when it is your time." This was a great statement of Faith from a new widow was was left at the age of thirty-eight with three young sons to raise. She knew that her husband, who was in excellent health and was not in the least bit overweight (his physician, Dr. Harold G. Rainey, who had been our family doctor when we lived in Great Neck, New York, from 1955 to 1965, told me at the teacher's wake that the man was in perfect health, not a sign of any health problems at all). Death will come for us in God's good time, which is why we must always be ready for the moment of our Particular Judgment by persevering in a state of Sanctifying Grace as a member of the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order.

That having been noted, however, we must take prudent, reasonable measures to to maintain bodily health so that we can discharge the duties of our state in life, avoiding the excess of gluttony and/or drunkenness in violation of the virtue of Temperance and avoiding the defect of worshiping the cult of the body to such an extent that we lose sight of the fact that God has given us food and drink to be pleasurable delights as the nature of sensible beings requires to be renewed in body and soul. Given our fallen human nature and its concupiscence, it is difficult to maintain a balance as food is indeed so pleasurable to some of us that the defects in our wills caused by failing to pursue the via media can lead us to let ourselves "go" to the point where one's body weight is causing people to stop you on the street and ask you to solve various crimes, believing that your Raymond Burr-like girth qualifies you for a remake of Perry Mason and/or, of course the late actor's far superior program, Ironside.

The iron law of metabolism is this: one gains weight if one ingests more calories than one's body is able to metabolize. I hate this law. There are some people who can eat whatever it is they want and never gain weight even as they age into their seventies and eighties. I hate those people. Mine has been a lifelong struggle to control my weight. Although progress was made in the 1970s after I lost thirty pounds that had been gained while I was recovering from a spinal fusion surgery in 1968 (flat on my back in a non-removable plaster body jacket for five months), something terrible happened on November 24, 1981: I turned thirty years of age discovering that I could no longer lose weight as rapidly thereafter as I had in my twenties when I had to drop ten or twenty pounds that had crept up upon me. I had to work to lose weight after turning thirty, managing to keep it off in the 1990s only by walking or running five to ten miles a day as I ate one full meal around midday. Another terrible thing happened in 2001: I turned fifty. Being unable to exercise much after getting married and traveling in our motor home, especially as my knees are injured from the years of running and exercising on treadmills, I did indeed let myself "go" and am just now, three months after Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, making some progress to get down to my normal weight of one hundred seventy pounds for what I hope and pray will be the rest of my life Forty pounds off. Only sixty more to go. All to thee, Blessed Mother. All to thy Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, we love you. Save souls!

Mind you, it's hard work to gain weight. A heavily buttered everything bagel here. A good helping of sun dried tomato cream cheese on an everything bagel there. A sleeve of Ritz crackers (with or without butter) at night after writing an article. A bag of Wise potato chips in the middle of the afternoon. Hum. Let's pop down some crunchy Cheez-Doodles. How about a nice slice of Entenmann's crumb coffee cake for desert? A good helping of the seven-layer carrot cake at Mitchell's Fish Market in West Chester, Ohio? You betcha. A nice helping of Clams Oreganto at Major's Steak House in Woodbury, New York. Two or three heavily buttered popovers at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho, New York. A "Fat Tuesday" jelly doughnut or two at Andrea's bakery in Newtown, Connecticut. Yes, it takes a lot of hard work to gain close to one hundred pounds, something that was noticed by the owner of Raimo's Pizza in Hicksville, New York, on November 3, 2010, "What happened to you? You've gained a hundred pounds." A pretty good guess. He wasn't wrong. (If I am able by Our Lady's graces to persevere in the current loss of weight, I intend to write something along the lines of "Dr. Droleskey's Guide to Gaining Weight With Ease and Losing It In A Spirit of Penance.")

Get the idea? It takes work to be a porker. It is to my shame that I permitted myself to become morbidly obese, and it is not a great consolation at the present time that I am only "overweight." There's a lot of work yet to do, probably for the next seven months, until the scale reads once again, 170 pounds, what it did for the last time in my life thus far on my forty-ninth birthday, November 24, 2000. Penance, penance, penance, and all of this penance is the result of my own sins against temperance, my refusal to live moderately within the limits of what I know my metabolism to be.

Taking reasonable and prudent measures to follow the via media guarantees us neither physical longevity or temporal happiness. A person, such as my former teacher cited above, in the peak of health can drop dead in an instant. Dr. James Fixx, the man who almost single-handedly started the jogging craze in the 1970s, died while jogging of a massive heart attack on July 20, 1984; his coronary arteries were between fifty percent and ninety percent clogged (and yes, I know all about the reports that debunk the linkage between a highly "hdl" cholesterol count and arteriosclerosis).

Some people, such as former Vice President Richard Bruce Cheney, have suffered from congenital heart and coronary problems that manifested themselves in their thirties. My former chairman at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University, who has always maintained a healthy weight, had his first coronary bypass surgery at the age of thirty-seven in 1974 and a second in 1991 and the age of fifty-four. The late Father Salvatore Franco had a heart attack in 1963 at the age of thirty-seven and suffered from various heart ailments for the rest of his life. It was, however, a form of blood cancer that killed him late in the evening on Friday, December 13, 2002. My own late father, Dr. Albert Henry Martin Droleskey, had the first of two massive heart attacks within a span of ten days (March 4-March 14, 1971), just months after dropping seventy pounds, being the thinnest that I had ever seen him in my nearly twenty years of life at that point. There are just so many factors that influence our health that being "physically fit" as the world counts "physical fitness" is no guarantor that will not suffer a health catastrophe.

In other words, there is no guarantee that following a certain regimen of physical exercise and eating a diet prescribed by the food police of the Federal government of the United States of America is going to make one "fit" and "healthy." Many are the consequences of Original Sin and our own Actual Sins upon the human body. Mere mortals, contingent beings who did not create themselves and whose bodies are destined one day for the corruption of the grave until the General Resurrection at the General Judgment of the living and the dead on the Last Day, cannot guarantee themselves one more day of live by any of their plans and schemes. We cannot be obsessed with storing up "merit" with the Federal Food Police and Exercise Nazis so that we can live a life that meets with their condescending approval, free of fear of being taxed for eating the "wrong" foods and having a Body Mass Index (BMI) that is unacceptable to the governing elites. We can take care of ourselves without the interference of those governing elites as we seek the pursue the via media as it pertains to the interior life of the soul and the reasoned, proportioned care of the body which receives its very animation from the soul.

Ah, you see, the governing elites know better than we do. They have long desired for the opportunity to be in a position to dictate to ordinary Americans how much they should weigh and what they should eat. They long for the day when they can impose taxes upon those foods considered by the Food Police and Exercise Nazis to be "unhealthy," meaning, of course, that we are too stupid to control our appetites without their "enlightened" control over our lives, too hard-headed to recognize that many great delicacies, even if consumed in moderation, that God has given us to be pleasurable delights in and of themselves are actually "bad" for us because they say so.

Efforts on the part of Food Police and Exercise Nazis to control our lives coexists at the same time as he food industry has been given free rein by politicians of both of our major organized crime families of naturalism, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, to corrupt our food supply by means of various poisons and chemicals and additives and preservatives that are designed to make us addicted to various products that will make us sick over the course of time as our bodies get programmed to crave things that will make us sick, sometimes unto death itself. The very seeds used to plant our crops have been "genetically modified," thus altering almost the entirety of our food supply. Lobbyists representing firms such as Con-Agra want to make it next to impossible for small family farmers to become fully self-reliant and independent of their tampered products. It is going to be increasingly more difficult in the years to come to find genetically pure seeds of crops such as corn and soy and wheat without having to purchase them on what will be the equivalent of a black market for seeds and non-genetically modified food products. The Food Police and Exercise Nazis, although they support supposedly organic farmers and stores where organically grown or manufactured products are sold, have no intention to tampering with Big Agriculture's control over our food supply.

Instead, of course, the Food Police and Exercise Nazis must focus on us in order to convince us that we just don't know how to curb our appetites by ourselves in cooperation with the graces sent to us by Our Lady, that we need their beneficent "help" to lead "better" lives so that we can be more productive "worker bees" for consumers who are enslaved to multinational corporations and that we will "donate" more of our income, much of which is, at least for many Americans who are in debt, already confiscated by means of usurious interest rates, to them by means of taxation, enabling them to be better able to "monitor" our "health" so that we won't be "burdens" on the health care system. This yet another attempt on the part of the crypto-Marxists who govern us at the present time to impose an agenda straight from the Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

Case-in-point: The report issued on by the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity on May 11, 2010, by the pro-abortion First Lady of the United States of America, Mrs. Michelle Obama. You can read the one hundred twenty-four page "report" for yourselves, if you care to do so, noting, obviously that the "report" is an exercise in statist propaganda of the highest variety that would make the statists in Sparta very proud.

Here is a summary of the report that has been given to the elist-in-chief Caesar Barackus Spartacus Obamus Ignoramus:

The report recommends that women be at a healthy weight at conception and that they avoid excess weight gain during pregnancy. The report also stressed the benefits of breast-feeding; studies have found that babies fed this way are 22 percent less likely to become obese.

Other recommendations call for:

--Restaurants to consider portion sizes and begin posting calorie information as the new health care law requires.

--Updated federal nutrition standards for meals served at schools and more school-based nutrition education. Congress is working on updating the guidelines. Legislation that cleared the Senate Agriculture Committee would spend an additional $4.5 billion over 10 years on school nutrition programs; the Obama administration has asked for an additional $10 billion over the period.

--Incentives to lure supermarkets to underserved rural and urban areas.

--Pediatricians to get in the habit of checking their patients' body mass index, a height-weight calculation used to measure body fat.

--A standard nutrition label on the front of packaged foods.

--The food industry and beverage industry to limit the marketing of unhealthy products to children, with government regulation as a last resort. (Michelle Obama releases child obesity recommendations.)

A summary of the report's recommendations can be found at the end of the report itself. The "summary" consists of ten full pages of "recommendations," just one of which will occupy my attention for present purposes, having already treated of the whole police state mentality that underlies this effort to exploit yet another "crisis" for purposes of restricting legitimate human freedoms as this "report" is just another excuse to be used to engage in a statist-sponsored "home invasion," if you will, of the privacy of ordinary Americans. Where is the outrage from those ordinary Americans?

The recommendation that has caught my attention--and which I believe bodes of more monstrous measures in the future if this madness does not stop--is the first one contained in the Summary of the Recommendations:

Recommendation 1.1: Pregnant women and women planning a pregnancy should be informed of the importance of conceiving at a healthy weight and having a healthy weight gain during pregnancy, based on the relevant recommendations of the Institute of Medicine.

This "recommendation" presupposes that women "plan" to conceive a child. Such is the grip that the contraceptive mentality has on the country that the governing elites just presume that women use contraception, providing them the "reproductive freedom" to "schedule" a conception when it best fits into their schedules. Today's "working woman" has to "postpone" children in order to advance various career girls. It is thus "necessary" to plan these sorts of things, making it possible for one to attain a "recommended" weight prior to conceiving a child and "choosing," of course, to permit it to be brought to birth, assuming that the carefully planned child is free of any "defects" that might interfere with his parents' busy lives or economic well-being or that might cause the child to "suffer" "needlessly" during his life.

Can the day be far off, therefore, when women will need "authorization" to conceive a child after being "certified" that they have attained a proper weight?

Will overweight women who conceive children be charged what would amount to a "pregnancy tax" to discourage them from conceiving until they had lost a sufficient amount of weight in the eyes of the Food Police and the Exercise Nazis?

Preposterous, you say? Say whatever you want. Believe whatever you want. Remember, however, that it would have seemed pretty preposterous to someone in the year that I was born, 1951, to suggest that there would come a day in the United States of America when over four thousand innocent preborn babies would be butchered under cover of the civil law. That would have seemed pretty preposterous fifty-nine years ago.

This "recommendation" can be seen, I believe, as a cleverly insidious means to "back door" the limiting of children that women will be permitted to bring to birth. Too many women of child-bearing years are overweight? Let's tax them so as to make it more difficult to have large families that will despoil the environment. There are more than a few members of the administration of Caesar Barackus Spartacus Obamus Ignoramus who are open admirers of the late, murderous butcher named Mao Zedong and his regime of state-sponsored terror, which includes forbidding parents to have more than one child. Don't kid yourselves, the merchants of death in the Obama White House have great plans for our future, and they involve telling us what to do in practically every single aspect of our lives.

Indeed, one of the "recommendations" made by the "White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity involves finding ways to "communicate" to parents how to limit their children's use of digital technology. While I am adamantly opposed to video games and such things for reasons far different than those motivating the Food Police and Exercise Nazis, it is not the business of the Federal government of the United States of America to make such "recommendations" as a means of forcing human beings into achieving an "ideal weight" so that the "collectivity" can be spared the "burden" of more fat people walking around our streets and clogging up our hospitals. It can't be that it is the high fructose corn syrup that is used in many processed foods and soda beverages that is causing us to gain weight.

Lest you think that the "White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity" is nothing more than an academic exercise that will not be implemented, please think again. United States Representative Ron Kind (D-Wisconsin) has introduced a bill in the United States House of Representatives to require states to track the Body Mass index of all children between the ages of two and eighteen. No Big Brotherism here, huh?

(CNSNews.com)  - A bill introduced this month in Congress would put the federal and state governments in the business of tracking how fat, or skinny, American children are.

States receiving federal grants provided for in the bill would be required to annually track the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. The grant-receiving states would be required to mandate that all health care providers in the state determine the Body Mass Index of all their patients in the 2-to-18 age bracket and then report that information to the state government. The state government, in turn, would be required to report the information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for analysis.

The Healthy Choices Act--introduced by Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee--would establish and fund a wide range of programs and regulations aimed at reducing obesity rates by such means as putting nutritional labels on the front of food products, subsidizing businesses that provide fresh fruits and vegetables, and collecting BMI measurements of patients and counseling those that are overweight or obese.

Section 101 of the bill amends the Public Health Services Act by stating that health care providers must record the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18.  "The provision relates to all children in states that accept grants under the bill," a spokesperson for Rep. Kind told CNSNews.com. "However, it is important to note that no one is forced to come in for a doctor’s visit to get their BMI tested.  BMI will be taken at times when the child makes an otherwise scheduled doctor’s visit."

BMI is calculated by taking one’s weight in pounds and height in inches, multiplying that number by one’s height in inches and then multiplying that number by 703. Any number over 24 is considered overweight, with higher numbers resulting in a diagnosis of obese (BMI = [weight / (height x height)] x 703).

To pay for implementing BMI data gathering, Sec. 102 of the bill states that the federal government will give grants to states that meet certain criteria, including having “the capacity to store basic demographic information (including date of birth, gender and geographic area of residence), height, weight, and immunization data for each resident of the state.”

The grants also will pay for personnel and equipment necessary to measure patients’ BMI.

The grants also require that if a child’s BMI is greater than the 95th percentile for the child’s age and gender, the state will provide “information on how to lower BMI and information on state and local obesity prevention programs.”

Rep. Kinder's spokesperson said that any data used to generate a report on the BMI data collected would not include patients’ names.

The bill also requires HHS to share with Congress and other government officials, including the secretaries of education and agriculture, its analysis of the BMI data collected not more than one year after it gathers all of the data from states.

This analysis, the bill states, would attempt to identify obesity trends in regions of the United States and how those trends vary according to gender and socioeconomic status--although the bill does not spell out how socioeconomic status of patients would be determined.

On May 6, the bill was referred to the House subcommittee on Highways and Transit.

Co-sponsors of the bill are Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.), Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) and Gregorio Sablan (D-Mich.)

At a press conference last week to announce the introduction of the bill, Kind emphasized it would help “busy American families.”

“Making the healthy choice the easy choice for our families is essential to ensuring our quality of life,” Kind said. “I am pleased to work on legislation that helps provide the opportunities that meet the needs of busy American families.” (The Federal Fat Police: Bill Would Require)

Once again, this is yet another way to engage in legalized "home invasions" of our families so as to coerce parents into registering children for various sports league activities and to regiment family life so that everyone in the family has to make time for strenuous programs of physical exercise. Sparta, Hitler, Stalin, Mao. There is little difference.

There is, as is usual when it comes to the statists who govern us at this time, a great deal of irony represented by the likes of Michelle Obama and Ron Kind championing the cause of the physical health and well-being of children if one considers the simple fact that they support the unrestricted "right" of women to "choose" to kill their children before they are born.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind believe that innocent babies may be suctioned out of their mothers' wombs by a vacuum machine that is twenty-nine times more powerful than the home vacuum cleaner.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind believe that innocent babies may be poisoned to death by the use of a saline solution that burns their skin off of their bodies and causes their bodily organs to cease functioning.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind believe that innocent babies may be carved up with a scalpel in their mothers' birth canals as their body parts are taken out and placed on a operating table so that they be number to make sure that nothing has been left behind to "infect" their mothers.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind believe that innocent babies may be taken out partly out of their mothers' wombs by means of a Caesar section so that their little necks may be twisted until they break and they have been killed.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind believe that the heads of innocent babies may be crushed and their brains' contents vacuumed out so that they can be taken out of their mothers' wombs dead on arrival.

Not very caring, Mrs. Obama.

Not very kind, Representative Kind.

Michelle Obama and Ron Kind are the last people on the face of the earth to be talking about "caring" for children.

As our natures are made to know, to love, and to serve God as He has revealed Himself to us through His Catholic Church, those who rebel against Him by means of persisting in, no less promoting, various sins suffer from the effects of those sins even though they do not believing that they are sinning. That is, just as a person who is obese will get fatter from eating the wrong foods without believing this to be the case, so is it is the case that those who commit and/or promote sins under cover of the law suffer from their doing so. This is why those who rebel against God by means of committing and/or promoting sins, especially grave sins, must "prove" that they are "good" by showing publicly that they are "caring," "loving" human beings who have the best interests of their fellow countrymen at heart.

This is why so many pro-aborts are among the greatest advocates of statist "social services" for the poor as this is a way of "proving" to others (and to themselves, whether or not they realize it) that they "care." This is how many Catholic pro-aborts in public life try to deflect their support for baby-killing, claiming that they are the ones who are truly "pro-life" as they support one failed statist program after one failed statist program for the "poor" and for illegal immigrants and for whoever is said to be unable to care for themselves, which was one of the chief justifications used by many pro-abort Catholics in the United States House of Representatives during the debate on ObamaCare two months ago now.

The late Edward Moore Kennedy, enabled by a ready cadre of conciliar "bishops" of the "leftist" variety of naturalism, used his sanctimonious, self-righteous, bombastic rhetoric to proclaim himself to be a champion of the "poor" and the needy. The late Joseph "Cardinal" Bernardin invented his "consistent ethic of life" ("seamless garment") in a speech at Fordham University on December 6, 1983, to claim that one can't really be "pro-life" unless one opposes the death penalty and supports government programs for the poor and underprivileged, doing this to blunt inroads that then President Ronald Wilson Reagan was making with Catholic voters because of the issue of abortion. Bernardin wanted to indemnify the likes of Edward Moore Kennedy and Mario Matthew Cuomo and Thomas P. O'Neill and Thomas Foley and Christopher Dodd and John Kerry and Barbara Mikulski and Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Geraldine Ferraro from any possible electoral consequences because of their support for chemical and surgical baby-killing. They were doing "so much" for the poor. They were really the true "pro-lifers" in public life. It is wrong to be "single issue" voters on the issue of abortion alone.

It is no wonder, therefore, that non-Catholics such as Michelle Obama and Ron Kind persist in the delusion that they are "caring" for others, with our taxpayer dollars, mind you, even though they support one grave moral evil after another under cover of the civil law, including the slicing and dicing of little children in their mothers' wombs. Their "program" to "care" for children is perfectly in line with the United Nations Convention for the Child that has been endorsed by none other than Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI (see Kindred Spirit of the New World Order). How are Michelle Obama and Ron Kind supposed to know better when the Nanny State and its programs have the seal of approval of the conciliar "pope" and many of the conciliar "bishops"?

Although we must avoid the sins of excess and defect when it comes to the human body, it wouldn't hurt to take a few extra measures to wean ourselves away from the processed foods replete with tons of corn syrup and derived from genetically modified seeds, to say nothing of countless other poisons and additives, some of which Father Vincent McNabb, O.P., was railing about in the early Twentieth Century. Indeed, we are witnessing the rise of the Nanny State as a result of the systematic attack on the integrity of the family and of the right of parents to serve as the principal educators of their children that is one of the chief goals of Judeo-Masonry, something that was indeed described very accurately by Father McNabb in The Church and the Land:

(3) How many mothers (women?) go out to work?

Stated in terms of industrialism, the home is the most important factory in the Commonwealth. Other factories make commodities called (often by a courtesy title) boots, hose furniture, jam, margarine (the Lord preserve us!), Boxo, and the whole inferno of tinned beastliness whose name is legion. The home alone makes boys and girls, men and women, good men and women, good Englishmen and good Englishwomen. And without these human commodities of what use are even the finest "canned goods".

(4) How many children are in the average family?

Read (3) over again. You will see that this efficient factory called the Home is the more efficient the more commodities it can produce, and the better the finish it can give them. Now the best of all training in the three essential civic virtues of Poverty, Chastity, Obedience, is in the large family. Experto credite Roberto. Trust Bob, at his job.

(5) How many mothers suckle their offspring?

To appreciate this question, read 3 and 4 over again. Then read a second time. If you don't see the point at the second reading--consult a doctor. (Father Vincent McNabb, O.P., The Church and the Land, published originally in London in 1925, republished in 2003 by IHS Press, pp. 40-41.)

Behold the rotten fruit of the overthrow of the Social Reign of Christ the King and the rise of the naturalism of Judeo-Masonry. There is one and only one antidote to this madness: Catholicism. There is one and only path out of this madness and to the restoration of the Church Militant on earth and of Christendom in the world: Our Lady's Fatima Message and the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

Is the hour too late for this to happen? I don't know. All I know is that Our Lady promised that her Immaculate Heart would triumph in the end. She is going to keep her promises. We just have to do our part to make reparation for our own many sins as best we can as the consecrated slaves of her Divine Son through that same Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, praying as many Rosaries as we can each day, praying, of course, for the conversion of the Obamas and the likes Ron Kind as filial piety for our nation and the Spiritual Works of Mercy require us to do.\

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!

.

Viva Cristo Rey! Vivat Christus Rex!
