Mutual Admiration Societies

 Part One

by Thomas A. Droleskey

We live in a world of revolutionaries.

That is, the modern world in which we live has taken the shape that it has as a result of Protestant Revolution started by Father Martin Luther, O.S.A., when he posted those ninety-five theses on the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, on October 31, 1517. Luther's diabolical revolution against the Divine Plan that God Himself instituted to effect man's return to Him through the Catholic Church. Much Catholic blood was shed as a veritable new world order was established, one that instituted the reign of man in the place of the Social Reign of Christ the King as It must be exercised by His Catholic Church.

Although each of the social revolutions that were too follow all too logically as a result of this new world varied a bit here and there, each was born in blood and maintained either at the brute force of the civil state and/or by the propagandizing of lies designed to flatter "the people" by appealing to a sense of nationalism that is the antithesis of true Catholic patriotism.

Permit me a brief word or two of explanation.

The Protestant Revolution convinced millions upon millions of men that they did not need a visible, hierarchical Church to teach them what the Divine Redeemer had entrusted to her magisterial authority and to equip them with the supernatural helps they needed to observe that teaching and thus to save their immortal souls. Nothing but utter chaos and ruin have followed in the wake of this revolution, which helped to establish the falsehood of the separation of Church and State as a cornerstone of Modernity. How few people, including Catholics, remember that Catholic church buildings were ransacked by Lutherans, Anglicans and Calvinists and other Protestants in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries?

The American Revolution convinced men that it was possible for them to pursue the common temporal good without referencing their Last End and without submitting themselves to the Catholic Church in all that pertains to the good of souls. The anti-Incarnational, religiously indifferentist principles of the American founding were also premised on the pure Judeo-Masonic falsehood that men can be virtuous on their own powers without having belief in, access to and cooperation with Sanctifying Grace.

The French Revolution convinced men that they could revolt against any notion of religion, true or false, as they were taught to blame their problems on one group of people, who must be hated and subjected to the assaults of the mob in the name of liberte, egalite et fraternite. Class distinctions were eliminated as everyone was address as "citizen" Women were encouraged to seek their emancipation from their husbands and children as they took their "rightful" place alongside men at the barricades and in positions of power. Continuing the legacy of the Protestant Revolution, Catholic church buildings were subjected to the most unspeakable sacrileges imaginable.

Otto von Bismarck's Kulturkampf was a revolution instituted by this consummate Freemason to consolidate the power of the united Germany as citizens were taught to obey the new hierarchy of civil authority that desired to make them more and more dependent upon the largesse of the civil state and to mind their masters without dissent, thus arrogating unto the civil state what belongs by right to the Catholic Church. The elderly were forced into retirement and a system of social security was established to make them dependent upon the largesse of the state and to drive a wedge between them and their children, who were "freed" from their obligations under the Fourth Commandment to return unto their parents the care and support that they themselves had received before they were grown. The warfare that Bismarck waged against the Church in Germany was denounced in no uncertain term by Pope Pius IX in Etsi Multa, November 21, 1873:

In addition to many grave injuries inflicted on the Catholic Church last year, the government of Prussia with harsh, iniquitous laws totally different from previous ones have subjected the whole institution and education of clerics to lay power. One can now legitimately ask how clerics are to be educated and formed for the priestly and pastoral life. Going further still, the government grants to the same lay power the right to bestow any office or ecclesiastical benefice and even the right to deprive sacred pastors of office and benefice.

Moreover so that the ecclesiastical government and the hierarchical order of subordination constituted by Christ Himself may be more quickly and fully subverted, these same laws impose many obstacles on bishops so that they cannot provide, through canonical censures and punishments, for the salvation of souls, the soundness of doctrine in Catholic schools, and the obedience due them from clerics. These same laws forbid bishops to do these things unless they are in accord with the wishes of the civil authority and the norms proposed by it. And so that nothing be lacking in the total oppression of the Catholic Church, a royal tribunal for ecclesiastical affairs has been instituted. Bishops and holy pastors can be summoned before it, both by private individuals and by public magistrates, so as to stand trial like criminals and be coerced in the exercise of their spiritual functions.

Existence of Church Threatened

Thus the holy Church of Christ, whose necessary and full freedom of which religion had repeatedly been guaranteed by public pacts and the highest princes, has in these same places been deprived of all its rights and exposed to hostile men. Its final extinction now threatens. For the new laws, to be sure, have as their intent its destruction.

No wonder, then, that the former religious tranquility has been gravely disturbed in that Empire by this kind of law and other plans and actions of the Prussian government most hostile to the Church. But who would wish to falsely cast the blame of this disturbance on the Catholics of the German Empire! For if they are faulted for not acquiescing in such laws in which they could not acquiesce with good conscience, for the same reason the apostles of Jesus Christ ant the martyrs, who preferred to undergo most dreadful tortures and death itself than to betray their duty and violate the rights of their most holy religion by obeying the commands of the princes who persecuted them, must also be faulted.

If no other laws than these of the civil authority existed and if they were of the highest order, it would be wrong to transgress them. If, moreover, these same civil laws constituted the norm of conscience, as some maintain both impiously and absurdly, the early martyrs and their followers would have been worthy of reprehension rather than honor and praise. Indeed it would have been against the laws and the wish of princes to hand down the Christian faith, propagate it, and found the Church. Nevertheless the faith teaches and human reason demonstrates that there is a twofold order of things. Two kinds of powers must be distinguished on earth-one natural that looks to the tranquility and secular business of human society; the other, whose origin is above nature, which is in charge of the Church of Christ, divinely instituted for the salvation and peace of souls. The offices of these two powers are wisely coordinated so that things which belong to God are returned to God and, because of God, those of Caesar to Caesar, who "for this reason is great because he is less than heaven for he belongs to Him whom heaven and all creatures belong."

From this divine command, to be sure, the Church has never turned aside. It always and everywhere attempts to inculcate in the faithful an inviolable obedience towards their supreme rulers and their rights, insofar as they are secular, and it has taught, with the Apostle, that they are rulers not for fear of good works but of evil, teaching the faithful to be subject not only because of fear, because the prince bears the sword to carry out his ire against him who has done evil, but also because of conscience because in his office he is a minister of God. However, this fear of princes the Church limits to evil acts, excluding the same totally from the observance of the divine law, being mindful of what blessed Peter taught the faithful; "May none of you suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer, but if any of you should suffer for being a Christian, then he is not to be ashamed of it; let him glorify God in that name."

Since these things are so, you understand how sad We must have been when We read in the recent letter from the German Emperor the unexpected accusation against certain of his Catholic subjects, especially against the Catholic clergy, and bishops. The reason for this accusation is that they, fearing neither bonds nor tribulations and not placing any great value on their lives, refuse to obey the aforementioned laws. They protest with that same firmness shown before the passing of these laws. They pointed out their faults by serious, clear and most solid explanations which, with the approval of the whole Catholic world and even of some heterodox men, they delivered to the Prince, his administrators and the supreme council of the kingdom.

For the same reason now they are accused of treason, as if they were conspiring with those who strive to upset all orders of human society. No attention is paid to the excellent arguments in which they clearly attest their unbroken loyalty and obedience to the Prince and their lively devotion to their fatherland. Indeed We Ourselves are asked to exhort Catholics and holy pastors there to observe these laws; this would be equivalent to Our contributing to the oppression and dispersion of the flock of the Christ. However, supported by God, We are confident that the most serene Emperor, having more carefully weighed things, will reject the empty suspicion conceived against his most loyal subjects and will no longer allow their honor to be reviled with foul detraction. In addition, he will end the unmerited persecution against them. Moreover, We would have willingly passed over the imperial letter if it had not been published, against Our knowledge and in a most unusual fashion, by an official newspaper in Berlin. It was published together with other material written by Us, in which We appealed for justice from the Emperor for the Catholic Church in Prussia.

Harassing of the Church

What We have recounted so far is common knowledge. Monks and virgins devoted to God are deprived of the common liberty of ordinary citizens and ejected with enormous cruelty, Catholic schools are daily being taken away from the care of the Church, and sodalities for pious works and even seminaries are dissolved. Additionally, the liberty of evangelical preaching is interfered with, hindered, teaching religion in the native language is forbidden in certain parts of the kingdom. Curates are withdrawn from their parishes, and prelates themselves are deprived of revenues coerced in many ways, and frightened with threat of imprisonment. While Catholics are vexed with all kinds of harassment such as these, how can We possibly acquiesce to what is suggested and not invoke the religion of Jesus Christ and the truth?

Government Support for Heretics

Nor is this the limit of the injuries which are committed against the Catholic Church. In addition the Prussian and other governments of the German Empire openly support those recent heretics who call themselves Old Catholics. Their abuse of such a name would be plainly ridiculous if it were not for the fact that so many monstrous errors of this sect against the principal teachings of the Catholic faith, so many sacrileges in divine service and the administration of the sacraments, so many grave scandals, and so much ruin of souls redeemed by the blood of Christ did not force tears from Our eyes.

(Pope Pius IX, Etsi Multa, November 21, 1873.)

The Freemasons in Italy also persecuted the Catholic Church under cover of the civil law at the same time that the Kulturkampf was taking place in Germany. Religious houses were closed. Education was placed under the control of the civil state. Clerics such as Saint John Bosco were under regular suspicion for what was termed "anti-governmental" activities." Pope Leo XIII, writing in Etsi Nos, February 15, 1882, bewailed these conditions in his native Italy:

In the midst of the populations of Italy, which have always been so constant and steadfast in the faith of their fathers, the liberty of the Church is wounded on all sides; everyday efforts are redoubled in order to efface from the public institutions that Christian stamp and character which has always, and with good reason, been the seal of the glories of Italy. Religious houses suppressed, the goods of the Church confiscated, marriages contracted in despite of the laws and without the rites of the Church, the position of the religious authorities as to the education of the young utterly ignored -- in fine, a cruel and deplorable war without limit and without measure declared against the Apostolic See, a war on account of which the Church is weighed down by inexpressible suffering, and the Roman Pontiff finds himself reduced to extreme anguish. For, despoiled of his Civil Princedom, he has of necessity fallen into the hands of another Power.

More than this; Rome, the most august of Christian cities, is now a place laid open to all the enemies of the Church; profane novelties defile it; here and there, temples and schools devoted to heresy are to be found. It is even reported that this year it is about to receive the deputies and leaders of the sect which is most embittered against Catholicism, who have appointed this city as the place for their solemn meeting. The reasons which have determined their choice of such a meeting place are no secret; they desire by this outrageous provocation to glut the hatred which they nourish against the Church, and to bring their incendiary torches within reach of the Roman Pontificate by attacking it in its very seat.

The Church, without doubt, will in the end be triumphant and will baffle the impious conspiracies of men; but it is none the less admitted and certain that their designs aim at nothing less than the destruction of the whole system of the Church with its Head, and the abolition, if it were possible, of all religion.

For those who pretend to be friends of the honor of Italy to dream of such prospects would seem a thing incredible, for the ruin of the Catholic faith in Italy would dry up the source of the most precious of goods. If, in truth, the Christian religion has created for the nations the best guarantees for their prosperity, the sanctity of right and the guardianship of justice; if by her influence she has everywhere subdued headlong and hasty passions, she, the companion and protectress of all honesty, of all nobility, of all greatness; if she has everywhere summoned all classes and every member of society to meet in a lasting peace and in perfect harmony, Italy has received a richer share of these benefits than any other nation.

It is, in truth, the shame of too many persons that they dare to denounce the Church as dangerous to public safety and prosperity, and to regard the Roman Pontificate as the enemy of the greatness of the name of Italy. But the records of the past give the lie to such slanders and to absurd calumnies of a similar kind. It is to the Church and the Roman Pontiffs that Italy especially owes gratitude for having spread her glories in all lands, for never having allowed her to succumb under the repeated incursions of having for generations preserved in many ways a lawful amount of just and proper liberty, and for having enriched her cities with numerous and immortal monuments of science and of art. In truth it is not the least glory of the Roman Pontiffs that they have maintained united in a common faith the various provinces of Italy, so different in customs and in genius, and have kept them from most disastrous disagreements. Frequently, in times of trouble and calamity, the welfare of the State would have been in peril, had not the Roman Pontificate saved it by exercise of its lifegiving power.

And its influence will not be less beneficial in the future if the malice of men does not interfere and hinder its efficacy or stifle its liberty. This beneficial force, which is peculiar to Catholic institutions, because it flows from them as a natural consequence, is unchangeable and unceasing. Even as, for the salvation of souls, the Catholic religion embraces all countries without any limitations of time or space, so does it always and everywhere stand forth and present itself as the true friend of the civil power.

These great advantages are being lost, and are being followed by grave evils; for the enemies of Christian wisdom, be their rival pretensions what they may, are leading society to its ruin. Nothing can be more efficacious than their doctrines in the way of kindling in men's minds the flames of violence and of stirring up the most pernicious passions. In the sphere of science they are repudiating the heavenly lights of faith; and when once this torch is put out, the mind of men is usually carried away by errors, no longer sees the truth, and begins quietly to sink into the lowest depths of a base and shameful materialism. In the sphere of morals they are disdainfully rejecting the eternal and unchangeable reasoning, and are despising God -- the sovereign Legislator and supreme Avenger and when once these foundations are torn away no sufficient authority remains for law, and the regulation of life merely depends upon the good pleasure and free will of man. In society, the liberty without limit which they preach and pursue engenders license, and this license is very soon followed by the overthrow of order, the most fatal scourge of the public welfare. Of a truth, it is impossible to see society in a more pitiable or miserable state than in those places where such men and such doctrines as we have been describing have gained the upper hand even for a moment. Unless recent examples had furnished evidence it would have been difficult to believe that men, in a transport of furious and criminal boldness, could even have cast themselves into excesses of such a kind, and while retaining as if in mockery the name of liberty, could have given themselves over to "satutnalia" of conflagrations and murders. If Italy has not, up to the present time, experienced a similar reign of terror, we must attribute it first to the especial protection of God; but the fact must be also recognized -- to explain this preservation -- that the people of Italy -- the immense majority of whom are still faithful to the Catholic religion -- have never been able to be subdued by the vicious and shameful doctrines We have denounced. And it must be confessed that if the ramparts erected by religion begin to give way, Italy also will fall into the same abyss, in which the greatest and most flourishing nations have in past times lain prostrate as victims. Similar doctrines involve similar consequences, and since the germs are infected with the same poisons, it cannot be but that they should produce the same fruits. (Pope Pius IX, Etsi Multa, March 17, 1937.)

Although I will make reference to Pope Pius IX's discussion of the profane novelties that had defiled the Eternal City, Rome, near the end of this commentary, suffice it say for the moment that the counterfeit church of conciliarism has made its "reconciliation" with the very novelties that overthrew the temporal power of the Holy Father and sought to make the Catholic Church and her religious institutions subject to the powers of the civil state.

Each of the other bloody revolutions that occurred in the Twentieth Century (Mexican, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Cuban, Nicaraguan, et al.) were made possible by the false, anti-Incarnational premises of Modernity that were bound to result in the rise of unbridled power seeking and unrestrained pursuit of material wealth, replete with the attendant injustices that made the "have nots" ready prey for those who sought to exploit them as the means to acquire and retain power no matter how many skulls had to be crushed.

Any form of Marxist-Leninist Communist, including the Maoist form introduced on the mainland on October 1, 1949, and institutionalized in various bloody stages, including the "Anti-Rightist Campaign" in the 1950s and "Great Leap Forward" from 1958 to 1961 and the "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution" from 1966-1976 (although its height was between 1966 and 1969), is founded in a hatred of God. It is a form of what is called anti-Theism, an ideology based on the hatred of God as violence is used to impose a utopian scheme, founded in some version of the Marxian version (dialectic materialism) of the Hegelian dialectic (the belief that history is a clash of competing ideas, starting with a thesis that contains within itself the seeds of its own internal contradiction, giving rise to an antithesis that then clashes with the thesis to produce a new idea, the synthesis), which promises to make man happy in this life as the alleged source of all human conflict--the unjust and inequitable distribution of wealth and property--is removed by the killing off of the capitalists and the forced redistribution of their wealth according to various slogans (including the following: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs").

Marxism-Leninism of its very anti-Theistic nature denies that man has an immortal soul that is made in the image and likeness of God, which is why the ideology of evolutionism developed by Charles Darwin in the 1840s had such a influence on political ideologues such as Marx and Lenin and so many others. The human being, according to Marx, is nothing more than a higher form of animal who could be satisfied if he is fed, clothed, and housed. Man's only happiness is to be found in this life as there is no eternal life with God in Heaven for the just and no eternal punishment for those in Hell for those who die in state of final impenitence. The Marxist dialectic contends that the ultimate stage of human "perfection," Ideal Communism," will emerge when the wealth and property of all capitalists in the world has been distributed equitably, at which point all human conflict, including wars, will cease and the need for government will end. Marx himself contended that it is at this stage that "history" would "end" and "man" would "begin."

Marxists-Leninists and Maoists and other forms of Marxist Communists believe that the evolutionary development of man to the stage of Ideal Communism is inevitable. The evolutionary process can be retarded by the schemes of capitalists and other "reactionaries." It cannot, however, be stopped, Marxists contend. Indeed, violent means must be employed to expedite the evolutionary process, which is why Mao Zedong (spelled Mao Tse-Tung when I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s) said very cavalierly, "To make an omelet you must break a few eggs. To make a revolution you must break a few skulls." Men who do not believe they bear within themselves the Divine impress and they will be held to account for how they have treated their fellow men according to the Deposit of Faith that Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has entrusted exclusively to the Catholic Church for Its eternal safekeeping and infallible explication believe that anyone who gets in the way of their plans is expendable.

These anti-Incarnational revolutions of Modernity have progressed in such a manner that almost each of the men in civil power in the supposedly "free" and "enlightened" nations of the "West" believe in one or another variation of Marxism-Leninism, which is one of that men such as President Barack Hussein Obama have such an affinity for the likes of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and Cuban dictator Raul Castro and the thugs who continue to persecute Catholics and oppress the rest of the citizenry who live in the prison state that is justly called Red China.

Truth be told, of course, there is a common bond between the false opposites of the "right" and the "left" as both are but expressions of the same root cause: the deification of man. Let me reprise a thumbnail explanation for you:

Although I have explained the terms that I use on this site any number of times in various articles, I do know that human beings forget. Some people forget definitions and concepts. I have had the tendency in recent years to forget names of people who have crossed our lives only a time or two in our travels across the nation, something that I used to remember quite well decades ago. It's not decades "ago" any longer, I am afraid, which is how some e-mails fall between the cracks.

Thus it is that I thought it useful to rework an explanation of the "false opposites" of the "left" and "right" that I had included parenthetically in the first posting of this article as a more easily readable appendix.

I refer to the "false opposites" of the "left" and the "right" because, despite their differences over  the powers of "government" over that of the "individual," both the "left" and the "right" reject Catholicism as the one and only foundation of personal and social order. The adherents of the "left" and the "right" believe that it is neither prudent or necessary to acknowledge that the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity in the Virginal and Immaculate Womb of His Most Blessed Mother has changed human history. Such adherents also reject any suggestions that both men and their nations must be subordinate to Christ the King and the authority of His true Church on all that pertains to the good of souls and that the civil government has an obligation to pursue the common temporal good in light of man's Last End.

No matter the differences between "conservatives" and "liberals," my friends, they both have one mind and one heart in the belief that man does not need the teaching and sanctifying offices of the Catholic Church to guide them in their private and social lives. This is, of course, the triumph of the Judeo-Masonic spirit of naturalism that was dissected so well by Pope Leo XIII. It matters little as to who is or is not a formally enrolled member of the "lodges" when most Catholics and non-Catholics alike are infected with the ethos of naturalism.

Similarly, any civil leader who believes that can, either by himself or with others, pursue genuine order without the help of Our Lady and the use of her Most Holy Rosary is a fool. We must give public honor to Christ the King and to Mary our Immaculate Queen.

Men and their nations must fall into the abyss absent a due submission to the teaching authority of the Catholic Church and a firm reliance upon the graces she administers from the Treasury of Graces won for us by her Divine Founder and Invisible Head, Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

As the revolutions of Modernity have but one common root, it is no wonder that there is such a kinship between ruling elites in Western "democracies" and the leadership of such oligarchical regimes as Communist China.

Most of the leaders of the West believe that citizens are the mere creatures of the state whose incomes and lives must be put at their disposal so that they can secure their positions in power.

One of the easiest ways to do this without shedding too much innocent blood, save for the blood of the innocent preborn, that is, is by taxing the people so much that many of them struggle to make ends meet while at the same time enticing people into become wards of the state by offering them "free" things (education, health care, various "social services," including "family planning") in order to make dependent upon the civil government. Human nature being what it is, of course, many people come to like being so dependent, coming to resent as "mean-spirited" bad guys those who would even talk about cutting the rate of increase in government spending on their goodies, no less the veritable Snidley Whiplashes who might suggest that no level of government (state, local, national) has any authority from God to create and administer programs that violate the Natural Law principle of Subsidiarity.

The other way that leaders in Western "democracies" seek to control their beloved "people" is to propose and implement as many regulations as possible. These regulations, although unevenly enforced as favoritism is shown to corporate and banking leaders who help to bundle together large amounts of campaign cash, are imposed upon various businesses, including the Guitar Manufacturing Company which was alleged to be using a "forbidden" type of wood from Brazil (see Gibson Guitar Wails on Federal Raid), and upon private individuals in the use of their own private property. The statists are out of control in the West.

The economic crises afflicting many countries in Europe, most notably Greece and Spain, and the fiscal solvency of the artificial currency known as the Euro are the direct result of these efforts. What is overlooked frequently, however, is that the leaders of Europe want crises of this sort as they they thrive on finding supposedly new and inventive ways to increase their power over those who have come to believe that they are entitled to cradle-to-grave government services.

The only differences between the civil leaders of the West and the likes of the Butchers of Beijing revolve around methods. The Maoists make no pretense about use raw physical power whenever necessary to remind the "people" that they are but the wards of the civil state. They are quite open about this and are, quite indeed, unapologetic about their brutal thuggery. That having been noted, however, Western leaders have used brute force to suppress dissent and have not been averse to using taxing agencies to subject vocal critics to unexpected audits of their tax returns. Western leaders have also used invasive measures to spy on private citizens to such an extent in recent decades that the line that divides countries such as Red China, Russia, Cuba, Vietnam and North Korea from the them is the degree of intrusive measures used to spy on citizens.

There is also another very strong common bond between the countries of the "civilized" West and places such as Red China: their mutual warfare against babies and the integrity of the family. The butchers of the West, men and women who are responsible for the slaughter of millions upon millions of human beings by their support for the chemical and surgical assassination of innocent children and thousands of other innocent human beings in their endless wars, including the "global war on terror," are as one with the Butchers of Beijing on the shedding of innocent blood and the persecution of those who are seeking to stop it.

We should not be surprised, therefore, to learn that a leading opponent of forced abortions in Red China and the regime's one-child-per family policy was forced to American embassy in Beijing by the pro-abortion statist thugs in the administration of Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. and Vice President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., so that a face-saving measure could be found to appease the leaders of what United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton (who I still contend will replace Biden on the Obama re-election ticket at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, four months from now) called a "great nation," Red China.

Here is a bit of background about Chen Guangcheng's opposition to forced abortions and a potential "deal" that allows him to come to the United States of America under the fig leaf of a "university fellowship:"

On December 6, 2011, Reggie Littlejohn testified regarding blind activist Chen Guangcheng before the Congressional Executive Commission on China.  Littlejohn also submitted a report from Chen Guangcheng’s 2005 investigation into coercive family planning in Linyi City, Shandong Province. A member of Chen’s team, celebrated human rights attorney Teng Biao, drafted the report, which contains extensive witness statements from cases Chen and his team were investigating before Chen was jailed.  In this report are detailed accounts regarding:

  • A woman forcibly aborted and sterilized at seven months;

  • Villagers sleeping in fields to evade Family Planning Officials;

  • Family Planning Officials who broke three brooms over the head of an elderly man

  • Family Planning Officials who forced a grandmother and her brother to beat each other; and

  • The use of quota systems and the practice of “implication” – the detention, fining and torture of the extended family of One Child Policy “violators.”

Littlejohn stated:  “The Chen Guangcheng report makes clear:  the spirit of the Cultural Revolution lives on in China’s Family Planning death machine." (Brutal forced abortions continue to savage China's women.)

Commentary continues to swirl around human rights advocate Chen Guangcheng’s treatment by the U.S. embassy in Beijing and by Chinese officials.

While the future of U.S.–China relations on the matter remains to be seen, international concern for Chen’s plight has refocused attention on the horrific human rights atrocities of China’s one-child policy, which Chen has sacrificed his livelihood and now safety to expose.

A well-known forced abortion opponent in China and the around the world, Chen has found himself a victim of the country’s disregard for the rule of law and basic human rights for many years. Chen, a self-taught legal advocate, spent four years in prison for his work in exposing the thousands of forced abortions and sterilization procedures performed on women in Linyi, Shandong province, by government population control officials.

Since his release from prison in 2010, the outspoken activist, his wife, and two children have been confined to de facto house arrest, without trial and without so much as formal charges against Chen.

Before his arrest in 2006, the human rights advocate would often hold meetings with members of the Linyi community, hearing heart-wrenching stories from women forced to undergo third-trimester abortions, men sterilized against their will, and individuals tortured and harassed because a family member was pregnant with an unauthorized child.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, has released a report detailing notes from some of Chen’s investigations of abuse and coercion in Linyi. Included are numerous stories of involuntary sterilization, intimidation tactics, extortion, and outright assault of family members or neighbors of women who were discovered to be pregnant without permission.

China’s mistreatment of Chen and ignorance of the rule of law and human rights is just an extension of the disregard for human dignity inherent in the country’s one-child policy. Possibly the most obvious example of China’s disregard for freedom, the one-child policy has caused untold physical and emotional suffering for women and men throughout the country since it was first announced in 1980.

Worse, the one-child policy—coupled with a cultural preference for boys—has nearly devastated China’s female population. Sex-selective abortion, abandonment, and infanticide has resulted in almost 40 million “missing” Chinese girls since 1980.

In just a few short decades, China could face serious societal problems because of its insistence on sacrificing human dignity at the altar of “population control.” Increased crime, substance abuse, violence against women, and gang activity, researchers predict, will likely mar China’s future as millions of young Chinese men are demographically prohibited from settling down into the socializing institution of marriage.

Already, reports of human trafficking from surrounding countries to alleviate the shortage of women are demonstrating the profoundly detrimental effects of China’s one-child policy on human rights. (Chen Guangcheng's Fight Against Forced Abortion.)

Chen has said that he was influenced to leave the U.S. embassy by news, conveyed at China’s request by an American official, that if he did not leave his wife would be sent back to their village where Chinese officials had already overrun their home, and where she would likely suffer severe maltreatment.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that embassy staff met Friday morning with Chen, who expressed his wish to flee to America “so he could pursue his studies,” and also affirmed that China, which she called a “great nation,” had expressed openness to letting Chen study abroad.

“This is not just about well-known activists. It’s about the human rights and aspirations of more than a billion people here in China and billions more about the world, and the future of this great nation and all nations,” said Clinton.

Yet signs that the Chinese government is angered by the turnout have also emerged: Beijing Daily, a top government-controlled newspaper, called Chen “a tool and a pawn for American politicians to blacken China.” (Chen may be allowed to fly to America: U.S. officials.)

Readers will notice the potential "deal" came only after officials in the American embassy in Beijing, which is, after all, the territory of the United States of America, pretty much forced him to leave, implying that his wife might be subjected to another beating by Chinese officials. Never mind the fact that the officials could have found a way to protect her. No, the goal was not to "offend" their fellow partner in global population "control," Red China. The potential "deal" is truly a face-saving measure on both sides as the Obama-Biden-Clinton gang do not truly oppose Red China's coercive population policies.

Just as a side note, the embassy of any nation is its own territory, recognizing a few limits permitted by International Law. One of my former students at Nassau Community College from the 1982-1983 academic year told me a story of how a official in the Soviet mission to the United Nations chilled him to the bone upon entering there on field trip with a group of his fellow students from Hofstra University after they entered the mission on a field trip in 1985. The Soviet official said: "You are on the territory of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The United States Constitution does not apply here." In other words, to quote Boris Badenov, "Sharrup you mouth, Natasha." Chen Guangcheng, a political dissident who has been beaten and tortured even though he is blind, did not have the protection of that American Constitution in our own embassy in Beijing. Quite telling indeed.

There is indeed quite a common kinship between the thugs of the West and their brothers in the East.

The late Dr. Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn commented on this kinship in his commencement address at Harvard University on June 8, 1978:

As humanism in its development became more and more materialistic, it made itself increasingly accessible to speculation and manipulation at first by socialism and then by communism. So that Karl Marx was able to say in 1844 that "communism is naturalized humanism."

This statement turned out not to be entirely senseless. One does see the same stones in the foundations of a despiritualized humanism and of any type of socialism: endless materialism; freedom from religion and religious responsibility, which under communist regimes reach the stage of anti-religious dictatorship; concentration on social structures with a seemingly scientific approach. (This is typical of the Enlightenment in the Eighteenth Century and of Marxism). Not by coincidence all of communism's meaningless pledges and oaths are about Man, with a capital M, and his earthly happiness. At first glance it seems an ugly parallel: common traits in the thinking and way of life of today's West and today's East? But such is the logic of materialistic development.

The interrelationship is such, too, that the current of materialism which is most to the left always ends up by being stronger, more attractive and victorious, because it is more consistent. Humanism without its Christian heritage cannot resist such competition. We watch this process in the past centuries and especially in the past decades, on a world scale as the situation becomes increasingly dramatic. Liberalism was inevitably displaced by radicalism, radicalism had to surrender to socialism and socialism could never resist communism. The communist regime in the East could stand and grow due to the enthusiastic support from an enormous number of Western intellectuals who felt a kinship and refused to see communism's crimes. When they no longer could do so, they tried to justify them. In our Eastern countries, communism has suffered a complete ideological defeat; it is zero and less than zero. But Western intellectuals still look at it with interest and with empathy, and this is precisely what makes it so immensely difficult for the West to withstand the East. (Dr. Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, A World Split Apart. June 8, 1978.)

The "leftists" of the West are still trying to justify the crimes of Communist countries as they are guilty of many the shame crimes themselves.

Ah, it is not only the false opposite of the "left" in the United States of America that has enabled the Red Chinese. Republican administrations have done so ever since President Richard Milhous Nixon's visit to Red China from February 21, 1972, to February 28, 1972.

Nixon's establishment of United States Liaison Office in Beijing in 1973, a year after the Shanghai Communique (February 28, 1972 Full Text), as the prelude to the establishment of full diplomatic relations with the murderous thugs of Beijing by President James Earl Carter, Jr., on January 1, 1979, paved the way for American commercial investment, which Nixon and each subsequent occupant of the White House contended would "democratize" the "People's Republic of China," which remains a land of political repression of crimes against God and man.

Not one President of the United States of America has ever spoken out in behalf of the suffering Catholics in the underground church in Red China. These Catholics have been arrested, beaten, tortured, and executed. There has never been any presidential statement in behalf of the persecuted Catholics in Red China. These Catholics have been betrayed as well by the conciliar Vatican, especially by Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict two years ago now (see A Betrayal Worthy of the Antichrist)

Indeed, many of the major donors to the campaigns of presidential candidates of both major American organized crime families of naturalism, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, have earned their blood money directly as a result of heading multinational investments in Red China, which is why then President George Herbert Walker Bush sent National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft, a member of the Trilateral Commission and a close associate of former United States Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger, for whom Scowcroft once worked and whom he succeeded as the late President Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr.'s National Security Advisor, to Red China on December 10, 1989, just a little over six months after the massacre of around three thousand students in Tianamen Square on June 3 and 4, 1989, to reassure Red Chinese Communist Party Chairman Deng Xiaoping that the Bush the elder still considered the Communist despot to be a "friend" of the United States of America. And former President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton held illegal fund-raisers in the White House featuring Red Chinese arms merchants and had his administration give approval to the Loral Space and Communications company's sale of one of its satellites to Red China, something that was opposed by officials in the United States Department of Justice who were investigating a previous violation of export laws by Loral (see "Reports Show Chinese Military Used American-Made Satellites"). It's all a game, a very perverse game.

It's been the same with the current administration. How can it be otherwise? How?

Remember, the Vice President of the United States of America, the notorious plagiarist and nefarious Catholic pro-abortion and pro-perversity Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., said nothing when giving a speech in Red China last year to criticize the Red Chinese's one-child-per-family that still results in the forged surgical assassination of innocent preborn children in a land where aborted babies are served as a delicacy in soup and political prisoners and others in Red Chinese prisons are often dissected alive so that their body parts may be sold on the international black market for such body parts? (For a review of some commentary about Biden's cowardice in Red China and his subsequent backtracking remarks, see Biden's Human-Rights Blunder and Biden: 1-child policy is 'repugnant', which is a very interesting assertion when you consider the fact that Biden consistently voted to fund the United Nations Population Fund--UNFPA, which has been fully supportive of the coercive Red Chinese population policies, which have included forced sterilization in addition to forced abortions, when he served in the United States Senate for thirty-six years.)

The government of the United States of America has attacked and invaded sovereign nations, overthrowing regimes said to be "threats" to their own people and to the world-at-large while enabling the mass murder of human beings in this country and coddling the most murderous nation on earth, Red China, in which the corporate robber barons who contribute to campaigns of the leaders of both major organized crime families of naturalism in this country as they also fund Planned Parenthood and related organizations, thereby depriving themselves of future workers and customers. Who cares that the countries that are destabilized by American intervention (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya) turn into bloody messes as believing Mohammedans seize power and then engage in warfare upon their "liberators" and each other? We must export the "American way" that is bringing so many chastisements upon this country at the present time to other lands who are not been privileged to experience "this way" first hand. And it's just too bad that we had to rush Chen Guangcheng out of the door of our embassy as we did not want to embarrass the leaders of such a "great nation" as Red China, which, unlike countries we have invaded since October 7, 2001, poses a real and legitimate military threat to the security of the United States of America.

Indeed, there is more of a kinship between the butchers of Beijing, who are least somewhat honest about their butchery, and the butchers in the United States of America than most people realize. This kinship has everything to do with the fact that, despite the differences between Marxism-Leninism/Maoism and the "republican" principles underlying the religiously indifferentist civil state of Western governments, both the governments of Communist nations and Western nations reject, although for different reasons, Catholicism as the one and only foundation of personal and social order. Nations that reject the true Faith become, sooner or later, statist enterprises steeped in one false naturalistic principle after another as the death of innocent human beings is accepted according to any number of ideological or utilitarian propositions. Naturalism, whether of the "left" or of the "right," must lead to statism. Perhaps one of you out there in cyberspace will come to realize this once and for all.

Pope Pius XI, writing in his encyclical letter on atheistic communism, Divini Redemptoris, March 19, 1937, explained this common connection between Communism and the liberalism which made possible its rise as both reject the truths that men must subordinate themselves to the Deposit of Faith at all times and that they need Sanctifying Grace in order to live in accord with Its articles:

But the law of nature and its Author cannot be flouted with impunity. Communism has not been able, and will not be able, to achieve its objectives even in the merely economic sphere. It is true that in Russia it has been a contributing factor in rousing men and materials from the inertia of centuries, and in obtaining by all manner of means, often without scruple, some measure of material success. Nevertheless We know from reliable and even very recent testimony that not even there, in spite of slavery imposed on millions of men, has Communism reached its promised goal. After all, even the sphere of economics needs some morality, some moral sense of responsibility, which can find no place in a system so thoroughly materialistic as Communism. Terrorism is the only possible substitute, and it is terrorism that reigns today in Russia, where former comrades in revolution are exterminating each other. Terrorism, having failed despite all to stem the tide of moral corruption, cannot even prevent the dissolution of society itself.

In making these observations it is no part of Our intention to condemn en masse the peoples of the Soviet Union. For them We cherish the warmest paternal affection. We are well aware that not a few of them groan beneath the yoke imposed on them by men who in very large part are strangers to the real interests of the country. We recognize that many others were deceived by fallacious hopes. We blame only the system, with its authors and abettors who considered Russia the best-prepared field for experimenting with a plan elaborated decades ago, and who from there continue to spread it from one end of the world to the other.

We have exposed the errors and the violent, deceptive tactics of bolshevistic and atheistic Communism. It is now time, Venerable Brethren, to contrast with it the true notion, already familiar to you, of the civitas humana or human society, as taught by reason and Revelation through the mouth of the Church, Magistra Gentium.

Above all other reality there exists one supreme Being: God, the omnipotent Creator of all things, the all-wise and just Judge of all men. This supreme reality, God, is the absolute condemnation of the impudent falsehoods of Communism. In truth, it is not because men believe in God that He exists; rather because He exists do all men whose eyes are not deliberately closed to the truth believe in Him and pray to Him.

In the Encyclical on Christian Education We explained the fundamental doctrine concerning man as it may be gathered from reason and Faith. Man has a spiritual and immortal soul. He is a person, marvelously endowed by his Creator with gifts of body and mind. He is a true "microcosm," as the ancients said, a world in miniature, with a value far surpassing that of the vast inanimate cosmos. God alone is his last end, in this life and the next. By sanctifying grace he is raised to the dignity of a son of God, and incorporated into the Kingdom of God in the Mystical Body of Christ. In consequence he has been endowed by God with many and varied prerogatives: the right to life, to bodily integrity, to the necessary means of existence; the right to tend toward his ultimate goal in the path marked out for him by God; the right of association and the right to possess and use property.

Just as matrimony and the right to its natural use are of divine origin, so likewise are the constitution and fundamental prerogatives of the family fixed and determined by the Creator. In the Encyclical on Christian Marriage and in Our other Encyclical on Education, cited above, we have treated these topics at considerable length.

But God has likewise destined man for civil society according to the dictates of his very nature. In the plan of the Creator, society is a natural means which man can and must use to reach his destined end. Society is for man and not vice versa. This must not be understood in the sense of liberalistic individualism, which subordinates society to the selfish use of the individual; but only in the sense that by means of an organic union with society and by mutual collaboration the attainment of earthly happiness is placed within the reach of all. In a further sense, it is society which affords the opportunities for the development of all the individual and social gifts bestowed on human nature. These natural gifts have a value surpassing the immediate interests of the moment, for in society they reflect the divine perfection, which would not be true were man to live alone. But on final analysis, even in this latter function, society is made for man, that he may recognize this reflection of God's perfection, and refer it in praise and adoration to the Creator. Only man, the human person, and not society in any form is endowed with reason and a morally free will.

Man cannot be exempted from his divinely-imposed obligations toward civil society, and the representatives of authority have the right to coerce him when he refuses without reason to do his duty. Society, on the other hand, cannot defraud man of his God-granted rights, the most important of which We have indicated above. Nor can society systematically void these rights by making their use impossible. It is therefore according to the dictates of reason that ultimately all material things should be ordained to man as a person, that through his mediation they may find their way to the Creator. In this wise we can apply to man, the human person, the words of the Apostle of the Gentiles, who writes to the Corinthians on the Christian economy of salvation: "All things are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's." While Communism impoverishes human personality by inverting the terms of the relation of man to society, to what lofty heights is man not elevated by reason and Revelation!

How ironic it is that the counterfeit church of conciliarism, which was been so favorably disposed to the Masonic principles of the modern civil state, has been interested from its outset in the reign of Angelo Roncalli/John XXIII in legitimizing the very Communist systems that were condemned by Pope Pius XI in Divini Redemptoris (for a contrast between the conciliar view and that of the Catholic Church, see A Betrayal Worthy of the Antichrist and Red China: Workshop for the New Ecclesiology).

As noted earlier in this commentary, Judeo-Masonry helped to pave the way for the rise of Communism, both theoretically and, at least in some instances, in concrete, practical terms. Pope Leo XII, writing in his first encyclical letter, Ubi Primum, May 5, 1824, warned us that any association with Masonry and its principles would lead to greater evils, such as the Communism that was to follow within two decades of Pope Pius XII's death on February 10, 1829, something that so few people took seriously at the time or take seriously now:

But at what are these remarks aimed? A certain sect, which you surely know, has unjustly arrogated to itself the name of philosophy, and has aroused from the ashes the disorderly ranks of practically every error. Under the gentle appearance of piety and liberality this sect professes what they call tolerance or indifferentism. It preaches that not only in civil affairs, which is not Our concern here, but also in religion, God has given every individual a wide freedom to embrace and adopt without danger to his salvation whatever sect or opinion appeals to him on the basis of his private judgment. The apostle Paul warns us against the impiety of these madmen. "I beseech you, brethren, to behold those who create dissensions and scandals beyond the teaching which you have learned. Keep away from such men. They do not serve Christ Our Lord but their own belly, and by sweet speeches and blessings they seduce the hearts of the innocent."

Of course this error is not new, but in Our days it rages with a new rashness against the constancy and integrity of the Catholic faith. Eusebius cites Rhodo as his source for saying that the heretic Apelles in the second century had already produced the mad theory that faith should not be investigated, but that each man should persevere in the faith he was raised in. Even those who put faith in a crucified man were to be saved, according to Apelles, provided that they engaged in good works. Rhetorius too, as We learn from St. Augustine, used to claim that all the heretics walked on the right road and spoke truth. But Augustine adds that this is such nonsense that he cannot believe it. The current indifferentism has developed to the point of arguing that everyone is on the right road. This includes not only all those sects which though outside the Catholic Church verbally accept revelation as a foundation, but those groups too which spurn the idea of divine revelation and profess a pure deism or even a pure naturalism. The indifferentism of Rhetorius seemed absurd to St. Augustine, and rightly so, but it did acknowledge certain limits. But a tolerance which extends to Deism and Naturalism, which even the ancient heretics rejected, can never be approved by anyone who uses his reason. Nevertheless -- alas for the times; alas for this lying philosophy!-such a tolerance is approved, defended, and praised by these pseudophilosophers.

Certainly many remarkable authors, adherents of the true philosophy, have taken pains to attack and crush this strange view. But the matter is so self-evident that it is superfluous to give additional arguments. It is impossible for the most true God, who is Truth Itself, the best, the wisest Provider, and the Rewarder of good men, to approve all sects who profess false teachings which are often inconsistent with one another and contradictory, and to confer eternal rewards on their members. For we have a surer word of the prophet, and in writing to you We speak wisdom among the perfect; not the wisdom of this world but the wisdom of God in a mystery. By it we are taught, and by divine faith we hold one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and that no other name under heaven is given to men except the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth in which we must be saved. This is why we profess that there is no salvation outside the Church.

But Oh! the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How incomprehensible His judgments! God, who destroys the wisdom of the wise, has clearly given the enemies of His Church, who despise supernatural revelation, a perverted mind corresponding to the symbol of iniquity which was written on the forehead of the wicked woman in the Apocalypse. For what greater iniquity is there than for those proud men not only to abandon true religion, but also to seek to ensnare the imprudent by criticisms of every sort, in speech and writings filled with all deceit! Let God arise and restrain, make futile and destroy this unbridled license in all its manifestations. (Pope Pius XI, Divini Redemptoris, March 19, 1937.)

The Marxist-Leninist-Maoist form of Communism and the religiously indifferentist civil state of Western liberalism are simply two sides of the same naturalistic, Anti-Incarnational coin. The latter simply paves the way for the former as both degenerate over the course of time into such increasingly degrees of statism that they become, save for some differences here and there, indistinguishable on many key points.

The kinship between West and East is not only between the leaders of civil governments. No, no, no. There is also quite a kinship between the leaders of the counterfeit church of conciliarism, men intoxicated with the sort of novelties that Pope Pius IX saw profane Rome with his own eyes as his own very life was imperiled and his liberty restricted, and the leaders of the Modern civil state, including the murderous regime in Beijing, something that will be explored on part two of this commentary tomorrow, Sunday, May 6, 2012, the Fourth Sunday after Easter and the Commemoration of Saint John Before the Latin Gate.

Today is the First Saturday of the month of May, the month of Our Lady. As I have tried to make clear in each of my articles, good readers, we must be earnest about the sanctification of our own daily lives. We must be brutally honest with ourselves about our sins, conscious of the fact that our own sins have worsened the state of the Church Militant on earth and of the world-at-large. Our Lady asked Jacinta and Francisco Marto and Lucia dos Santos to live penitentially as they prayed their Rosaries to console the good God and to make reparation for their sins and those of the whole world. Our Lady's Fatima Message to the children in the Cova da Iria in 1917 is her message to us ninety-five years later in 2012. We must pray as many Rosaries each day as our states-in-life permit, accept with joy and with gratitude each of the sufferings and calumnies and difficulties that come our way as the consecrated slaves of Our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The very sainted life of the pope whose feast we celebrate toady, Pope Saint Pius V, exhorted the whole Christian world to pray the Rosary so that the Turkish fleet would be vanquished by the combined forces of the Holy League in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. It was with the Rosary that the forces led by John of Austria, which were outnumbered by the Mohammedans, won the battle and saved Europe from Mohammedan conquest, something that has been achieved, at least in large measure, in our own days as a result of the anti-population programs of European governments and the European Union and the acceptance of contraception and abortion in the once formerly Catholic states of Europe which are paying a very high price for their infidelity to Christ the King. It will be the Rosary that will win the day for us today. Do not doubt this at all! Not at all.

The path to Heaven can be trod only by those who are willing to bear the Cross and to lift it high in their daily lives. We must remember this as we cling to true bishops and true priests in the Catholic catacombs who make no concessions to conciliarism whatsoever, consider it our privilege to hear the Immemorial Mass of Tradition offered at their hands, seeking only to live in such a way that we will be ready at all times to die in a state of Sanctifying Grace as a member of the Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation and without which there can be no true social order.

It's the Faith that matters, the entire Faith without any compromises, now and for all eternity.

Vivat Christus Rex! Viva Cristo Rey!

Isn't it time to pray a Rosary now?

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!
